Labour set for general election landslide - exit poll..by Owen Amos and Sam Hancockichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/97e10729-346a-446b-9c51-bca46d246b33.pngLabour is set to win a general election landslide with a majority of 170, according to an exit poll for the BBC, ITV and Sky. If the forecast is accurate, it means Sir Keir Starmer will become prime minister with 410 Labour MPs β just short of Tony Blair's 1997 total. The Conservatives are predicted to slump to 131 MPs, their lowest number in post-war history. The Liberal Democrats are projected to come third with 61 MPs. The Scottish National Party will see its number of MPs fall to 10 and Reform UK is forecast to get 13 MPs, according to the exit poll. The Green Party of England and Wales is predicted to double its number of MPs to two and Plaid Cymru are set to get four MPs. Others are forecast to get 19 seats. The exit poll, overseen by Sir John Curtice and a team of statisticians, is based on data from voters at about 130 polling stations in England, Scotland and Wales. The poll does not cover Northern Ireland. At the past five general elections, the exit poll has been accurate to within a range of 1.5 and 7.5 seats.

Exit Poll.
Labour 410
Conservative 131
Liberal 61
Reform 13
SNP 10
Massive for Labour, awful for Conservative, a good night for Liberal, dismal for SNP and for Reform brilliant!
In scenario this exit poll projects to result, then Reform will have more seats than the SNP.
How long since Nigels return?

How long before the wheels start falling off for Labour ? Petrol prices due to rise in the next few weeks...that could raise inflation. Autumn budget where we find out how they will get extra tax out of us. Winter electric/gas bills will be high.... By January/February they will be as hated as the Tories were.....could be a winter of discontent.

Registered voters: 48,214,128
UK turnout: 52%
Down -5.80% on 2019
Half the eligible voters didn't bother to vote.
Labour aren't going to win because they're good, they going to win simply because the Tories failed, and half the nation couldn't be arsed to vote due to knowing each party are lying.
Reform likely to finish 2nd in overall turnout given the first results, that's been done in just 4 weeks! Imagine if Farage had been interested a year ago instead of being in the USA..And they had to fight against the media.
Its a labour win by default, I would be very worried about what Reform has done tonight if I'm them.
The next 4/5 years are going to be interesting.

Must admit some of what he says I agree with ( gulp ) , the new homes should be council houses under council control , not private landlords

Rishi Sunak: A sobering verdict, there is much to learn... I am sorry..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/5/e1c97543-195b-48dd-8c2b-f9c5ec19d3cd.jpgHere are some more quotes from the - now outgoing - Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. "On this difficult night, I'd like to express my gratitude to the people of the Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your continued support," he says. "The Labour Party has won this general election, and I've called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. "Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country's stability and future. "The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn... and I take responsibility for the loss. "To the many good, hard-working Conservative candidates who lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and delivery, and their dedication to their communities. I am sorry."

An extraordinarily good night for Labour - but not with Muslim voters..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/5/6b5c4dae-5abe-434c-a06b-0a3798bb8abc.jpgLetβs be clear, tonight has been an extraordinarily good night for the Labour Party. Under Keir Starmer they have won more seats than they would ever have dreamed in the aftermath of the 2019 general election. But there is grit in the oyster. They have performed strikingly badly in seats with large numbers of Muslim voters. Labourβs vote is down on average by 10 points in seats where more than 10% of the population identify as Muslim. Thatβs one reason Labour have lost Leicester East to the Conservatives and the main reason perhaps that Jonathan Ashworth, a shadow cabinet minister, lost Leicester South to an independent - so far the biggest shock of the night.

Diane Abbott wins in Hackney after Labour row..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/5/d1a59d2a-e0a4-4fb2-a3e1-e2bfbbdd3034.jpgLabour's Diane Abbott wins Hackney North and Stoke Newington with a healthy majority of more than 15,000 - down from 29,000 at the last election. She's represented the seat since 1987, but her win is a statement after a row around whether or not she would be allowed to stand for Labour this time. Abbott had been suspended from the party last year, after suggesting Jewish, Irish and Traveller people experience prejudice, but not racism "all their lives" - sparking a long-running process which saw her sit as an independent MP.

Nigel Farage elected MP for first time as Reform wins four seats..Becky Morton, Political reporter.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/04/22/86941505-13602001-image-a-38_1720129446114.jpgNigel Farage has been elected as an MP for the first time, as his Reform UK party won four seats. The Reform leader overturned a 25,000 Conservative majority to take Clacton in Essex by more than 8,000 votes. He polled 21,225 votes, comfortably beating incumbent Tory Giles Watling into second with 12,850. In a speech after the result was announced, Mr Farage said it was "the first step of something that is going to stun all of you". Shortly after Reform also gained Great Yarmouth and Boston and Skegness from the Tories. Earlier, former Conservative MP Lee Anderson, who defected to Reform in March, retained Ashfield in Nottinghamshire. Taking aim at the Conservatives, Mr Farage said: "There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it." Speaking to reporters after the result, he suggested "this is the beginning of the end of the Conservative Party". Mr Farage said Reform would "now be targeting Labour votes". "What is interesting is, there's no enthusiasm for Labour, there's no enthusiasm for [Keir] Starmer whatsoever. In fact, about half of the vote is simply an anti-Conservative vote," he said. "We're coming for Labour, be in no doubt about that." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/04/22/86939913-0-image-a-27_1720127392528.jpg

Lee Anderson became the first elected Reform MP today as he won in Ashfield..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/05/02/86948999-13602497-image-a-62_1720143310132.jpgMr Anderson, who won the seat in 2019 as a Conservative, defected to Nigel Farage's outfit last year. He walked out on the Tories in March after refusing to apologise for controversial remarks about London mayor Sadiq Khan. The blunt-talking former coal miner started his political career as a Labour councillor, before defecting to the Conservatives. Speaking after his victory, Mr Anderson told reporters: 'As I said a few weeks back, there's going to be a reckoning on election night - there has been a seismic reckoning in Ashfield and throughout the country. 'Reform are picking up seats tonight - make no bones about it. 'Next week, I'll be on the green benches with Nigel and a few others, and we're going to give them hell.' But his historic win came as the party's hopes of winning more than a dozen seats looked set to be dashed. The exit poll suggested that it could take 13 seats. But it lost heavily to Labour in two Barnsley seats and Hartlepool, which were among the 13 tipped to fall.
