There have been problems with some dogs/ some owners for a while,in my experience a lot of people who bought dogs during the lockdown period werent really suitable to be dog owners.
At the moment if you can pay for a dog you can have it,breeding can be done by anyone who wants to do it.
There are no simple answers so politicians lose interest, but maybe dogs could be put into categories A,B,C etc and certain people banned from having dogs in a certain category, for instance if you have convictions for violence you can only own a category A dog (Yorkshire terrier,Toy Poodle etc).
Bigger dogs Rottweillers or Mastiffs could only be walked one at a time, there could be a limit on dogs owned at a certain address.
All dogs to be chipped by the breeder and records kept.
All owners to have dog insurance.
This would not happen overnight but something needs to change, the original dangerous dog act was a knee jerk reaction and not well thought through,it did though have a success,I think that 3 breed of dog of which there were none in the country were banned and none of those dogs have ever injured anyone here because they couldnt be imported.

I had to laugh at the ignorance of the BBC radio 4 person yesterday when he was interviewing someone about the death of the old lady who was killed at the weekend,it hadnt been confirmed that the dogs in the attack were XL Bully but he kept referring to 'that breed of dog' it isnt a breed its a type and then he said "I thought they were supposed to be muzzled" the bloke being interviewed said that they had to be muzzled in public but these were in a house and the twat said "oh,so they dont have to be muzzled in the house"?....did he think that a dog could be muzzled 24/7 ?...tool. Reading about these attacks they often happen in the house that the dogs live in,often when there is more than one dog (pack behaviour) or when the dogs escape the house, thats one thing that the new rules cant enforce,if the dogs get out into the street they arent going to put their muzzles on first ! I am into Terriers,I often went to the Staff show when it was at Yate, massive show and people came from all around Europe, funny thing is your Staff might not recognise those XLs as dogs because they look so different that it would be like us looking at a space alien. The other thing that I dont like is seeing someone walking 2 powerful dogs,a few years back I saw a big bloke at Blaise walking 2 big American Bulldogs, all ok until the dogs saw another dog that they wanted to go for, nearly pulled the bloke over he could hardly hold them, imagine them seeeing a cat the other side of the road...could cause a nasty accident.

They said on radio that the dogs who killed the old lady have been classified as XL bully's. Apparently there was a young child in the house,a litter of puppies and 2 adult dogs...that situation had a potential for disaster that was sadly realised,as Ltd said very powerful dogs the lady had no chance against two of them.... All the males need to be castrated and females speyed so that that these XL bully's die out,but sadly they will be replaced with some other type of powerful dog which in the wrong owners hands will be a danger...
