Just got back, my first game of the season, thought we were superb first half, Halifax came into the game in the second half and we sat on the lead a bit to much which is understandable as you can tell the players and the management are desperate to do well and win games. Ellis is never going to be a quality player but he's playing up front where he should be and his job is to stick the ball in the net whatever way he can. Cunnington is everything Harrold wasn't, he's mobile his movement is good and was decent in the air and with the ball at his feet. Jamie White also impressed, but the stand out players were Mansell and Clarke, both having to cover plenty of ground and get through tons of work but they were excellent and Mansell is a proper captain. Thought the back 4 looked strong, Brown is Mr Reliable and Trotman was immense again, the bloke needs to his contract extended asap. Things are coming together nicely, and with a young passionate manager like DC who isn't afraid to make big decisions, i think the good times on the pitch look like they are on the way back. Let's see if the forum will be even more silent than it was last weekend. No need to be silent, let's say what actually happened and not get starry eyed because we scored a lucky goal right at the death. First 10 mins we couldn't string 2 passes together. Next 20 mins we got it down, worked to create space and it looked like a team of footballers against a team of hoofers, we were very very good and got the goal we deserved. Then we reverted to type, forgot how to do basics, Halifax took control and but for 2 superb saves would have gone in 2-1 down. 2nd half we were pants. Sat back and invited long balls and long throws into the box, no surprise whatsoever that they equalised. This is where the manager earns his wages, it was obvious what they were going to do, he allowed it to happen, no way in a million years will our defence stand up to 45 mins of that type of assult. Sorry but this manager is a clown. I said in the summer to show him the door and go for Martin Allen, the early table shows that it would have been the right decision, Barnet are top, GD + 14, Rovers 15th, GD -1. Rovers will finish behind Barnet. Sinclair changed things because he was prepared to get the ball down and run with it. For anyone not there, wait until you see the winning goal, Sinclair gets the ball out from under his feet, creates a yard of space and puts over a perfect cross that just needed nodding down into the net, Harrison manages to head straight at the keeper, the ball falls at the keeper's feet, he smashed it againt Harrison and it bobbles over the line. I'm not complaining, they all count, but let's not try to convince ourselves that we deserved any more than maybe, being generous, a point from today's game. Today's match stats: Possession, Rovers 39% Halifax 61% Shots, Rovers 8 with 4 on target Halifax 14 with 8 on target. Special mention to the referee and the linesman in front of the east terrace, neither had the faintest idea what was going on half the time. By far the 2 most clueless officials I've ever seen. We were stood there laughing at them both. I don't know if they have assessors in this League, if they do then those 2 gents will find their careers are over before lunch on Monday, utter farce. The highlight was Sinclair being held in a headlock for a good 5 seconds literally in front of the linesman, and he didn't notice. When they realised what they could get away with Halifax got quite ugly. Luckilly nobody got badly hurt. Happy with the 3 points, but a decent manager would get a lot more out of that group of players.

Hardly unnecessary CG, you only have to look back to last weekend as an example. It was a shame that the mods didn't step in during that OTT first week, but you feel the need to pull me up on a comment that had good intentions.

The changes made the difference for me, Sinclair delivered and got to the touchline wherever possible.
Bloody lovely.

I thought in the first 45 minutes we played well, some nice shape, movement and ball play.Tom Parkes who has had some criticism passed the ball very nicely a few times eg.We deserved to be a goal up.Second half we seemed to defend deep and forget to hold onto the ball.I wouldn't say we didn't deserve to score a winner, but Shaymen were the better second half team. Much to improve, much to do on the training ground but I get the impression this squad listen t Darrel and Marcus,so maybe what we saw in the first half may be stretched into the second half more in the coming games. Mentioned in dispatches Tom Parkes,Ollie Clark,Trotmann,Cunnington.

No matter how you win them all you can do is win them ! 7pts out of 9 against potentially two of the better teams in this league needs to be celebrated Stats don't mean diddly squat ,i'll take the points !

If i even dared to write as much s***e as that after a win against top of the table then i would have received ridiculous amounts of abuse a year ago. You really are embarrassing yourself with that last sentence which makes no sense whatsoever.

I want Rovers to take parts of the Telford game (Second half - last 30 minutes), the FGR game and today's game against Halifax (First half and final ten minutes)and piece it all together.
If we can do that then we are onto something.
It can be done.
Enjoy tonight Gasheads!

I take it all back. Clarke is a genius. 7 points against 2 of the better teams, that'll take some beating considering we have only played each of them once. I don't know who you think the better teams are, but to make up 7 points from 9 you have to include the win against the part timers of AFC Telford, they are 23rd, played 6, lost 4, drawn 2. It was desperate, backs to the wall for almost all of the 2nd half. More often than not you won't get away with it. Today we got some luck, about time to. My point is that we can, and should do better, we saw in that 20 minutes that if you close down quickly, play the ball quickly and work hard to create space hoofers like Halifax simply won't live with it. Their No 9 is not a hoofer, quality little player.

A great result. We seem to be starting to go in the right direction, at least on the pitch.

Thanks for the thoughtful summary. Good to read. Shame you spoilt it with the last unnecessary sentence. Hardly unnecessary CG, you only have to look back to last weekend as an example. It was a shame that the mods didn't step in during that OTT first week, but you feel the need to pull me up on a comment that had good intentions. Don't be so touchy WG, I wasn't "pulling you up" just felt it was unnecessary when we are all celebrating a win.

I think most people before the weekend would of considered FGR and Halifax two of the better teams and we have taken 4 points from them, and I think there was a fair case for deserving all three at FGR. My point is you can't do better than take the points however you do it. I disagree with you though on Clarke ,I would not put him in the category of "genius" However yes the No.9 was a good player, but they took him off ,I wonder why. We are IMO weak down the right hand side and I would like to see someone more comfortable at Right Back, if we posed the same threat down the right as we do the left I reckon we would be pretty close to being as good as we could reasonably expect at this point.

At last a piece of luck, for a goal to win a game, I don't care if it went in of his ear, it went in and we won. I thought it was a evenly contested first half but we certainly rode our luck in the second half but at least we didn't cave in and kept going. Adam Cunnington for me was defo MOM,Trotman was a close second, Mildenhall, two fantastic saves, Mansell and Clarke were great in midfield, Sinclair was the difference when he came on, also fair play to Ellis for being in the right place at the right time. I also believe a special mention should go to Tom Parkes as he's been slated in recent times and rightfully so as his performances and distribution has been not up to standard, but he was outstanding today. 7 pts out of 9, keep it going boys. Anyway. Enjoyed the game, would like to know how many tackles Mansell put in, and how many passes successfully made. MOM for me.

I thought Ollie Clarke had a good game too. The sound of one tackle he made in the first half reverberated around the ground! Music to my ears.

changing the subject slightly, did anyone hear the text being read out on radio bristol after the match?
"people need to get off higg's back he has done wonders for the club"
the car in front of us must have been listening as well as they nearly crashed at that precise moment....

no.4 (I think from memory) of yours hacked down McManus shen on a booking. Having said that Boden was also lucky to stay on after kneeing your defender in the back as he shepherded the ball out.
