According to news reports there are currently more people leaving the HM forces than joining.. but I do believe ( vaguely) that those that do leave are likely to be among the first to be recalled " in the event of" if they gave sufficient training. Nobby may be able to confirm or correct me on that...Elder brother was FAA and was held on " reserve" for 5 years after leaving

Hang on Don't we have 4 Vanguard Subs with 16 Tridents on each. Are you saying that after all this time we are going to test ONE of them?? πππ And, in further embarrassment one of our several billion Β£ aircraft carriers, breaks down...again.

Hopefully the Dover barracks will be garrisoned in case of a war in Europe,we may have to repel people who's countries are involved in the fighting, also hope that preparations have been made to flood or destroy the Channel tunnel.

I presume that's a typo? The great pity is that Russia could be an integral part of the wider European economy and more integrated into the liberal, rules based, free market. But they have fallen into corrupt capitalism where a minority controls so much in a lawless free for all.

Nobby may be able to confirm or correct me on that...Elder brother was FAA and was held on " reserve" for 5 years after leaving I don't know what the call up status is nowadays after you leave. The mere fact it is being talked about is a disgrace. I do know a number of ex-military people and they all practically say the same thing.......There is no way they would fight for this country again. Why put your life on the line for pay that is way below the minimum wage (the Forces are exempt from the Minimum Wage laws), when you have an army of lawyers watching your every move looking for the slightest thing to get you locked away, when you know that afterwards you will not receive the care you should from the government. Anyway, in times of strife there are no problems with recruitment. During the heaviest fighting in Afghan and Iraq there were thousands of youngsters applying. The main problem for the military is retainment.

I doubt that there would be enough volunteers for an extended war, even in WW1 they had to bring in conscription and the amount who volunteered was huge. Where would a large force of volunteers be trained and housed ? bases been sold off and the only ones kept are for a vastly reduced military, would be a problem clothin, equipping and arming a reasonable sized military too. Possibly the best thing would be to bring back a territorial/yeomanry type force, where volunteers get some training. First thing that needs to be done is to provide every city and target with an 'iron dome' type missile defence.

If it came to conscription huge numbers would refuse to go,also the military doesnt take people who use drugs so a large percentage would fail their medical anyway.
