"Makes Robbie Savage sound like Sir David Attenborough, doesn't he?"
Nice one, AMPG
I watched the Sheff Utd v Liverpool game the other night, and the only outstanding highlight of a dull 90 minutes, was the woman commentator (sadly I didn't get her name). The game was streamed by Peacock, an American arm of, NBCUniversal. Her MALE so-called pundit an ex-professional footballer was . . .
Still, it was free, and had a proper set of cameras unlike the rubbish iFollow dish up for a tenner. Sadly, I don't get to watch many live games, though online viewing with Mrs. darlo, is highly entertaining
#UpTheROVERS I think you listened to Pien Muelensteen Darlo, she is the daughter of former Manchester United coach Rene Muelensteen. But as a paid up subscriber to Peacock TV I want to know why old blokes in America have to pay for it but old blokes in England get it for free. The “special relationship” is all very well but there are limits. I'll tell you what Neil, if it was Rene, then I say open the flood gates for more women commentators. "Old bloke"... how dare you! I have 'internet friends' - I could tell you how I avoid the subscription, but then I would have to kill you. Blimey! I have to pay a £159 licence fee to the BBC Mafia, and then £2.50 to a rival broadcaster, just to listen to a Rover's game on BBC Radio Bristol. Scandalous! Anyway, #UpTheROVERS, we would shout. FOOTNOTE: "special relationship" ...my arse!

I watched the Piers Morgan interview, which I expect to be the first and last time I tune into Talk TV.
Lots of waffle from JB and contradictions.
Didn't help by interviewing 4 people at once over zoom; lots of talking over each other, as there's a slight delay, and people don't know others are talking as well as you would in a studio.

That's why his programme is called Uncensored...the clue is in the title 😀

Morgan kept asking Barton to give some names, or give examples of errors. Eventually JB came up with a female commentator had said a player had scored with their laces, when clearly they had used the side of their boot.
Morgan then gave an example of a well known male footballer, who had played at the highest level in the men's game, who had made an error, to which Barton replied that everyone makes mistakes!

I don't think he is very well and I hope people can just leave his behaviour alone now. Maybe lock this thread?

It's not Gasheads publishing his bigoted bile, and I see no reason for Gasheads' comments to be locked. I just change the subject. Taylor's team from Barton's squad were rubbish again yesterday, and while I certainly do not support yet another widespread clearout and reset, I think Al Saeed et al will need to invest in Taylor to bring in at least two or three influential players to reverse the decline, little by little, and looking forward.

He doesn't even have a job in football. In a moment of kindness I decided to move this thread to "General Football Chat". Certainly not Rovers related.

Alex Scott sends defiant message to women in football amid Joey Barton row..by Luke Baker.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31626001.ece/ALTERNATES/r500/0_MAIN-Chelsea-v-Arsenal-Vitality-Womens-FA-Cup-Fifth-Round.jpgAlex Scott sent a defiant message to women in football, claiming that the sport “is a better place with us all in it” at the end of a week where Joey Barton’s sexist outbursts have made headlines. In a series of sexist tweets, recently-sacked Bristol Rovers manager and former one-cap England international Barton suggested that women “shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority” on men’s football, before comparing having women on commentary, co-commentary or punditry duty as “like me talking about knitting or netball”. He also bemoaned the fact that “you cannot watch a game now without hearing the nonsense” and that “any man who says otherwise is an absolute fart parcel” as well as repeatedly calling any dissenters “eunuchs”. He then expanded his remit of rage to insist that “tokenistic” hiring practices mean there will no longer be any jobs available in men’s football for white, middle-aged, British men. In an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV, Barton also specifically took aim at Scott, who won 140 caps for England and has become a prominent pundit since her retirement, including as the current host of Football Focus on the BBC. “She hasn’t played in it [the men’s game],” said Barton. “One is 200 years old and one is about 40 years old… It’s the same rules but football is about a lot more than rules… The games are at two different speeds.” After presenting live coverage of the Women’s Super League clash between Arsenal and Chelsea on Sunday afternoon – which was played in front of a WSL-record crowd of 59,042 at the Emirates Stadium – Scott took the opportunity to slyly hit back at Barton’s comments and deliver a heartfelt message to women in football. "Just before we say goodbye,” began Scott. “To all the women in football, in front of the camera or behind it, to the players on the pitch, to everyone that attends games – keep being the role models that you continue to be to all those young girls that are told 'no, you can't'. Football is a better place with us all in it." Another female broadcaster, Laura Woods, was among those to rebuke Barton for his initial comments earlier this week, saying: “Joey’s entitled to his opinion. If he feels that strongly about women in the men’s game he could ask for a private conversation with the broadcasters and state his case. “These tweets only encourage a pile-on for the women getting on with their jobs. Or was that the intention?” When asked about Barton’s comments in her pre-match press conference on Friday, Chelsea women’s manager Emma Hayes – who will leave her role to coach the USA women’s national team at the end of the season – reflected on the “systemic misogyny” faced by women in football. She said: “The realities are male privilege has always been at the centre of football in this country. I feel that sport is the last place in society where that male privilege exists.”

Barton responds to Scott's defence of female pundits in the men's game..by Daniel Davis For Mailonline.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31631575.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_Joey-Barton.jpgJoey Barton has responded to Alex Scott's defence of female pundits in the men's game by insisting that she doesn't 'have a clue' and taking aim at her playing career. Speaking during the BBC's coverage of the Women's Super League fixture between Arsenal and Chelsea on Sunday, Scott told women that 'football is a better place with us all in it', seemingly hitting back at numerous sexist digs made by Barton. Barton, formerly of Newcastle and QPR, claimed that women shouldn't be able to 'comment on men's football because they haven't played it'. The remarks, which caused widespread uproar on social media, were followed by individual criticism targeting both Scott and TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods. England and Arsenal Women's legend Scott, however, took the opportunity to deliver a touching closing speech and urged women to continue acting as role models. 'Just before we say goodbye, to all the women in football, in front of the camera, behind it, the players on the pitch, to everyone that attends games, keep being the role models that you continue to be,' she said. 'To all those young girls that are told no you can't, football is a better place with us all in it.' Barton responded on X, formerly Twitter, by making a personal jibe at Scott's ability with a comparison to Sunday League. He went on to offer to debate the presenter. He tweeted: 'connntinnuuuuuuuhhhhhtuuuu [sic] what, sorry @alexscott. I can't say you don't know men's football? You don't. Sorry. You don't have a clue. And you were a really bad player compared to even a Sunday League player. 'In my opinion, the winner of the FA National Sunday Cup this year would easily beat in a cup final, at Wembley for charity, the winner of the @barclayswsl @skysportswsl from this season. Or England Women @lionesses. 'I'll happily have Alex on my podcast. I think I know more about football than her. I think I was a better player but I would like to see [or] hear her perspective.' Barton, 41, then appeared to backtrack on his scathing comments by sharing a screenshot of a direct message he had personally sent to Scott. 'Come on! I don't want to have a row,' the message read. The tweet was accompanied with the caption: 'If offer stands. Hate to tell you all the truth. Am I wrong? Let's debate it. No edit. Long as you want. 'She followed me first. I've just followed back. I like Alex. I think she's a great role model. A brilliant player in the women's game. 'The men's game is different. Debate me. Let's discuss. I'm a bad guy. I get it. But I want to do good. Have a great Christmas.' Barton was sacked as Bristol Rovers manager in October.

The "where's my dummy" mugshot says it all. He never scored this many own goals when he was a player.

I recognise that ground. I recognise that badge. much like Forest Green are known around the world, and garnered supporters around the world for being “green”, we are famous too, in publicity terms we are outdoing BristolCity. 👍🏻

Laura Davies opens up on Jon Rahm and Joey Barton at PGA Scotland event in Glasgow..by Martin Dempsterichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A072/production/_84447014_dame_laura_davies_getty.jpgDame Laura Davies rattled through a wide variety of topics during a chat before her guest of honour appearance at the annual PGA of Scotland Luncheon in Glasgow, getting her teeth into both Jon Rahm’s switch to LIV Golf and Joey Barton’s controversial views on women commentators in sport. Davies enjoyed a stellar playing career, winning 20 times on the LPGA Tour and a record 45 times on the Ladies European Tour. But, in comparison to what she earned, the current prize pots up for grabs in professional golf, not just in the men’s game, are at an eye-watering level. “My biggest cheque was $240,000 and that was at the JC Penney with John Daly (in 1999),” she recalled. “I think most of my winnings on the LPGA were between $60,000 and $90,000. I’d love to be playing at the top level at the moment. They are winning $2 million and next year the CME (the LPGA’s season-ending event) is going to be worth $4 million to the winner. so it’s all changed for the better and good luck to them. I’m not envious of these girls one bit as I love to see it.” As for Barton, who claimed last week that women are not good enough to commentate on football because “they don’t understand the game”, huge Liverpool fan Davies admitted she was trying to tread carefully but, at the same time, also didn’t shirk away from that issue in her role as a Sky Sports commentator. “People may not say it, but there’s always that, it’s in golf, too,” she said. “I don’t know why Joey would say something like that. But I’m a big fan of the fact that if you’ve been there and done it you can talk about it. It’s not so easy if you haven’t. Trish Johnson, Dottie Pepper, Morgan Pressel, all the girls who do golf. They’re all major champions and multiple winners. It’s not at the power level of men’s golf, but the pressure is no different.”

Joey Barton humiliates himself after comments about female pundit on Piers Morgan show proved wrong..by Ben Rumsby, Jeremy Wilson.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/03/29/20/41092112-9415739-image-a-51_1617045162038.jpgJoey Barton has been left with egg on his face after wrongly accusing Sky Sports’ Courtney Sweetman-Kirk of getting her facts wrong during Liverpool’s Premier League win over Fulham. Barton was also mocked for mispronouncing Sarina Wiegman’s name while attempting to justify his social-media rant against women covering men’s football. In an interview on the TalkTV programme Piers Morgan Uncensored, the controversial former player cited Sweetman-Kirk’s co-commentary when Waturu Endo scored for Liverpool on Sunday, saying: “She talked about, ‘Endo scores with his laces’. Now, anyone who watched that who had knowledge of football seen [saw] that Endo scored with the side of his foot. “Because it was female co-comms and female commentator, no one said, ‘Hang on a minute, that didn’t happen’.” But what Sweetman-Kirk had actually said was: “How many players do you see in that moment panic; put their laces through it, smash it over the bar? But, no, Endo just strokes it into that top right-hand corner.” Sweetman-Kirk, who played for Liverpool’s women’s team before joining Sheffield United three years ago, was part of an all-female commentary team at Anfield on Sunday alongside Pien Meulensteen, the daughter of former Manchester United coach Rene. In Barton’s TalkTV interview, he also twice mangled the name of England Women manager Wiegman, including calling her “Sander”. Former Manchester City midfielder Barton had already been left embarrassed by a photograph showing him throwing his support behind the #HERGAMETOO campaign, which aims to fight against sexism in sport, while he was Bristol Rovers manager. He had earlier compared women commentating on football with men talking about knitting, calling on men to boycott watching games with female presenters and pundits and branding those who challenged him “Eunuchs”. His rant on X, which was condemned by the likes of TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods, began on Wednesday night, shortly after he announced the relaunch of his podcast, ‘Common Sense’. He continued to promote it on Friday by inviting Woods to appear with him on it to “open up the debate”. Emma Hayes, a pundit during major men’s and women’s international tournaments, as well as arguably the most successful women’s manager, said that sport was the last bastion of “male privilege”. Hayes, who will soon be leaving Chelsea to take over the United States women’s national team, also condemned the “pile-on” that follows when someone like Barton sparks such a debate. “The realities are male privilege has always been at the centre of football in this country,” Hayes said. “I feel that sport is the last place in society where that male privilege exists. If you haven’t experienced systemic misogyny, like lots of us have, you can’t for one moment understand how detrimental some of these conversations are, knowing that anything anyone says just enables an absolute pile-on, particularly on social media.”
