I am not a fan of Barton as a man, but as a football manager (only) he has my respect. He turned the club around on the football pitch, and we were starting to build a decent football team in League One (again). He is a decent manager who will have no trouble finding another club. I find this a strange time to let him go. He has a long contract and whilst we have not set League One on fire (yet), we are not even halfway through the season. Given that we always start slowly I still had expectations for this season. As many have said, a devisive character who regularly embarasses the club, so hopefully we can move forward as a unified fanbase again. Absolutely critical we get the right person in, there is still potentially a promotion to be had this season (or next). UTG I liked some of the football he played and that second half of the season in ‘22 was very good. He found a system, used a very talented Elliot A and stuck to it but the previous season kept trying different systems with little success and last season was ok to consolidate but we’ve flattered to deceive this season and whilst I think we could have come good his overall record was below average imo. But that end of season 21-22 will linger long and it was a great time to be a gashead. He struggled for any consistency in League 1. His non-football stuff wasn’t the best and his inability to concentrate on the football and to call players and managers out publicly (even before matches so doing their team talk for them) was embarrassing and unnecessary and showed a complete lack of discipline though of course others loved him for his honesty at those times. It’s a shame his honesty didn’t always stretch to the post match interviews when wheat he said bore no resemblance to what had happened. But, a memorable time for good and bad reasons. The only thing I would disagree with you Richmace is the assumption he will have no trouble getting an another job. Football has moved on and the calling out, bad publicity that he attracts might not worry some fans but it will owners and BODs. Brand awareness is vital now. Whenever clubs appoint managers they talk about the values of the club and in-coming manager being very close. Now I think that’s usually a load of cobblers but clubs say it all the time. I’d love to hear a club say that in relation to JB. It won’t happen so finding another job will not be quite so easy, certainly not one as attractive as BRFC. (Attractive insofar as potential, owners who are prepared to spend, owners who tolerated the baggage he came with as well as that he accumulated whilst here, passionate fanbase who travel and large city around it and atm nearly a decent squad) Seriously, thanks JB but all managers have a time span and his was naturally up. UTG! Agree 100% with the off the field behaviour. He was a constant embarrassment and (that side of him) was a horrible advert for the club)!

On Change.org (a petition website) there is a 'reinstate Joey petition', it was started yesterday and has amassed 195 signatures!
The comments left by those that have signed the petition make interesting/amusing reading.
I guess there is more chance of Kier Starmer reinstating Jeremy Corbyn,

How many more do they need before it's raised in Parliament?

With 212 reinstate Joey petitioners now, what chance of a 'Bring Back Barton' protest at The Mem this afternoon to disrupt the Gashead unity the 'so called' left wing bedwetters have predicted?

How many more do they need before it's raised in Parliament? It’s because Joey Barton is a left wing bed wetting Corbyn supporter and secular society celebrity, I didn’t want him here in the first place. Corbynites like Barton should be banned from representing football clubs and not even allowed bank accounts - let them bank with the bank of Hamas instead. Normally would keep politics off the football threads, but the suspicion here is the “Left wing snowflake bedwetters have cost us the best manger we’ve ever had” comment is based on thinking fat shaming Steve cheating **** Evans fell foul of wokists so got Joey sacked. If that is what the person is thinking, then fair enough. No one should be sacked for calling someone a weeble, Steve Cheating **** Evans given jail sentence for defrauding football to give him his proper name, you should be able to call worse things than a weeble, and survive.

A balanced post and I respect your views. But (you knew there was going to be a but) - this is the third year which has seen a total 'rebuild'. Which consists of old players, injury prone players and loanees. Even if Barton manages a year of relative success based on luck & chemistry, a total rebuild would be required the next year. As yet, we don't know the real reason the Club have sacked him. I have a feeling Barton will sling mud and trash talk his way out of the door, tarnishing his reputation further. I sincerely doubt another EFL Club would gamble on him. Good point.
Every year there has been a large turnover of players, which I assumed JB was doing to "move us forward".
Season 2 - Promotion. Season 3 - Consoluation in the higher league. Season 4 - Languishing in lower mid table. Too early to tell though (the goal was promotion and we are not seeing promotion form yet). We are notorious slow starters.
Looking at the above, then the turnover of players would appear to not be working, although I stand by my feeling that it is too early to judge this season. We have a good squad of players.
I would have thought that for successive promotions, you need a solid core of players across a number of years and add depth / strengthen specific areas, rather than replace large parts. Each season we have a lot of new players to learn.
The only thing that niggles me with JB's football in Leagie One is that we were not decisive enough in the final third. I like the possession football, but at times we were keeping possession for posession's sake. There was no end product, and I think the opposition knew that.
To summarise, the JB system I feel is not far off delivering us Championship football, and is the style of football I would like us to be known for. We just need it to be effective.
“although I stand by my feeling that it is too early to judge this season. We have a good squad of players.” absolutely agree, so many promotion seasons start like this, Barton’s, Clarkies, and Trolloppes promotion seasons, all four of them, started just like this. this sacking cannot be because not in a promotion race in October, in October everyone is, is how football works. This sacking cannot be related to how the season is going so far, or it would be a far too early, and stupid decision.
