Joey’s gone - hurrah. I can come back, but to what, the club has changed so much? A joyous day. A return to the Mem? Yes, but not any day soon. A lot of water under the bridge. And a lot of anger and resentment that won't disappear overnight. But I reckon I'll probably be back this season. My football habits have changed over the last 2 1/2 years. Sporting Bengal vs Frenford for me in the Essex Senior League on Saturday. I'll wear a Rovers shirt to the pub this evening. I've not done that since Feb 22nd 2021. People won't recognise me... Does the Rovers flag come out today? Decisions decisions. Attachments:

At least the owners are in everyone's good books today for unifying the fanbase. I miss my old mate Bambi.. Credit goes today to those of whom never stood by him fair play to you for holding on to your your principles. I'll ping him a mail and see if he wants to come back...

Goodbye Poundland Pep. Won't miss you and your mediocrity one bit. Baself will be distraught though and w****** himself into a stupor I'm in such a good mood I almost feel like unbanning him

I'm by no means Barton's biggest fan, but I find this a strange decision.
We weren't outplayed by either Oxford or Burton, and managed to salvage something from a poor performance on Tuesday.
A number of players are on record as being at the club because of Barton and will now be reconsidering their decision/s.
Paying off Barton's extended contract will cost a substantial amount, as will paying off his retinue. This will also be highly disruptive.

My suspicion is that the new owners' doubts have been there for a longer time, and short of an amazing turnaround, had already planned it. Great.

Joey Barton: Bristol Rovers sack manager with club 16th in League One..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A0D5/production/_131537114_shutterstock_editorial_14118736ab.jpg Joey Barton won 53 and lost 60 of his 143 games in charge of Bristol RoversJoey Barton has been sacked as Bristol Rovers manager after almost three years in charge of the League One side. Rovers are 16th in the table having won one of their past five matches and recorded four league wins all season. The 41-year-old former Manchester City, Newcastle and England midfielder led the club to promotion on the final day of his first full season in charge. First-team coach Andy Mangan will lead the side in the interim while the club look for a new manager. Fellow coaches Glenn Whelan, Danny Ventre and Anssi Jaakkola will support Mangan, with their first game in charge at home to Northampton on Saturday. Rovers are the fifth League One side to change manager this season after Charlton Athletic, Fleetwood Town, Cheltenham Town and Lincoln City. Barton moved to the Memorial Stadium in February 2021 having previously had a spell in charge of Fleetwood Town. He signed a three-year contract extension with the club until 2026 in July last year following promotion back to the third tier and they went on to finish 17th in the table last season. They have only won four of 13 league matches this campaign, with five losses and four draws, and drew 1-1 with Stevenage on Tuesday in what would be Barton's final game at the helm. "Everyone at the club would like to thank Joey for all his efforts and wish him well in the future," a club statement said. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/07A1/production/_131535910_shutterstock_editorial_14022002ex-1.jpgAnalysis - Richard Hoskin, BBC Radio Bristol sports editorNothing should ever surprise you in football but the news that Joey Barton has been "sacked" by Bristol Rovers will surprise some supporters. He was backed heavily in the transfer market this summer, but has been cursed by injuries to key players. And for all their quality, Rovers have been crying out for a striker this season - highlighted by the failed transfer of Jonson Clarke-Harris. Wael al Qadi sold his majority stake in the club to Kuwaiti businessman Hussain AlSaeed in the summer - and presumably he's been heavily influential in this decision. Joey Barton often divided opinion among the fanbase and he was never afraid to tell it how it was. But for the famous 7-0 victory against Scunthorpe alone that secured promotion to League One, he won't be forgotten in a hurry.

Joey Barton sacked just hours after he called rival boss "fat man" in final game..By Kieran King, Sports Writer.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31118525.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/1_GettyImages-1601917182.jpgThe Gas currently sit 16th in League One and have won just one of their last five matches, with Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Stevenage proving to be Barton's final game at the helm. They had previously been beaten by Oxford and Burton either side of the international break and have collected just 16 points from a possible 39 this season. Barton led the club to promotion to League One in his first full season and guided Rovers to a respectable 17th place finish last term. Andy Mangan has been appointed as Rovers' interim manager and is expected to lead the team for their home game against Northampton on Saturday. A club statement read: "Bristol Rovers Football Club can confirm that today the club has relieved First Team Manager Joey Barton of his duties. "Everyone at the club would like to thank Joey for all his efforts and wish him well in the future. In the interim, Andy Mangan will lead the team supported by Glenn Whelan, Danny Ventre and Anssi Jaakkola who will remain in post." Barton was appointed as Rovers' new boss in February 2021 and couldn't stop them from dropping into League Two. However, the following year he led them to automatic promotion, losing just one of their final 19 matches and thrashing Scunthorpe on the final day to pip Northampton to promotion on Goals Scored. It was a remarkable achievement for Barton and Rovers as they somehow secured an automatic promotion place alongside Forest Green and Exeter. That ended up earning Barton a new three-year contract extension to keep him at the club until 2026, and Rovers consolidated in the third tier last season with 14 wins, 11 draws and 21 defeats from 46 matches, finishing eight points above the relegation zone. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31287198.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Joey-Barton.jpgFollowing a difficult start to this campaign, Barton's time at the Memorial Stadium has come to an end. During his final game in charge against Stevenage on Tuesday, Barton allegedly called rival boss Evans a "fat man" and a "weeble". Chris Martin earned The Gas a point in a fiercely contested clash after Jamie Reid opened the scoring. It wasn't the first time the duo have came to blows, either. Back in October 2022, Evans suggested that Rovers didn't deserve to get promoted from League Two. The ex-Leeds boss said that Scunthorpe's decision to field a youthful side on the final day "had no place in football" and added that Northampton "should be in League One", not Rovers. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31287305.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Joey-Barton-2.jpgBarton ruthlessly responded to Evans' comments at the time. He told the Bristol Post: "It's a helluva lot different looking at the fixture list and seeing a trip to Pride Park and a trip Hillsborough, rather than Crawley and Stevenage and big Steve Evans charging up and down the touchline. JOEY BARTON'S BRFC MANAGERIAL RECORD - 22.02.2021 TO 26.10.2023 - P143, W53, D30, L60 = 37.1 WIN % - OMG THE END OF A TURBULENT ERA IN THE HISTORY OF BRFC.

My suspicion is that the new owners' doubts have been there for a longer time, and short of an amazing turnaround, had already planned it. Great. It would be very odd if they committed to spend 500,000-750,000 to buy JCH for a manager they didn't believe in. I think if you back a manager with the level of support that JB has received, then you have to stick with them at least until Christmas. It would be nice to think that the Steve Evans comment had some role to play, but unfortunately I don't think it did. Evans is older than Barton, is a more successful manager (not hard, admittedly) and has actually been very complimentary about our club and fans in the past. He is a proper football man and knows the game inside-out. Barton's comment was vile, although it wasn't the worst one he made - that being the one where he joked about his past violent conduct in a club interview.

This is a great day for football, a man who has betrayed the game from the moment he first put a pair of boots on is now firmly on the unemployable list of managers and coaches never to work again in the game. I hope his two close chums the once murder suspects were also in the same departure lounge.

Unless he has done something beyond even his stupid threshold that we have yet to hear about then he will soon be back in management.

I think syg's right. Wael Al Qadi was a foolish owner, dazzled by social media celebrity, but he is not unique among the very rich who buy football clubs as toys. There will be another. It would be very odd if they committed to spend 500,000-750,000 to buy JCH... I have doubts there, too.

I think when the new owners found out about the JCH transfer, they blocked it. Rovers then pretended it was down to bad luck that the paperwork wasn't finished.

I wonder what the attendance will be on saturday v Northampton at the Mem..?..the last 2 home games have had just over 7k, maybe break 8k...
