We're now hearing from UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on the situation in Israel and Lebanon.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/27/09/90166419-13897669-Secretary_of_State_for_Foreign_Commonwealth_and_Development_Affa-a-78_1727427234151.jpgLammy says he's just spoken to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and that both of them agree "the best way forward" is an immediate ceasefire and reaching a "political solution". He urges UK nationals to leave Lebanon, saying help has been provided already to do this, such as getting people on to flights. Lammy adds that plans are in place to help British nationals leave the country but that the UK cannot "anticipate" the circumstances if things "escalate in the coming hours and days". David Lammy now says he spoke with Iran's foreign minister last week and urged the country to show "restraint". "As you would expect, over the coming hours we will continue to be in touch with Iran." As a reminder, Hezbollah - which is designated as a terrorist organisation by Western states, Israel and Gulf Arab states - is backed by Iran. Speaking about the death of Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah, Lammy says he doesn't "mourn the death of the head of a proscribed terrorist organisation, but I do mourn the civilians that have lost their lives in the bloodshed over the last few days". He says this is why countries have come together and are calling for an "immediate ceasefire" and a "political solution" for Israelis to return to their homes in northern Israel and for Lebanese people to return home in southern Lebanon. All he& his party are bothered about is appeasing the hate marchers / Muslims , loosing there votes is first / foremost at the front of anything they do 🙄🙄

But which State has the right to determine another State's energy policy? Which State has the right to impose a regime, one they favour, on another State? If Iran is developing it`s nuclear capability, solely with the aim of providing energy for their people, then all well and good. If their aims are more sinister, then Israel will know about it, and I suspect that anyone living near the nuclear sites will be receiving a letter from the IDF, suggesting that they might like to relocate to a different part of the country. I agree absolutely with your second sentence, and I`m sure that we`d both like to see Iran withdraw all support for Hezbollah, and just forget about Israel. All functioning centrifuges have the capacity to provide fuel for nuclear weapons. It becomes a question as to whether the country in question has the technology to do that. If Trump had not pulled the negotiations with Iran we might know by now. In terms of your last question or statement, that is exactly what we did in 1952 in Iran and what the Israelis did to Arab Gazans after 1948.

There is a long standing and ongoing call for them to stop sending missiles, its only the frequency they send that varies. The UK has proscribed them as a terrorist organisation since 2001.

Or Golda Meir`s. Or the West`s in general. Anyway...I have little doubt that the Israelis know what Iran is up to, and will take action or not accordingly. In terms of your last statement, whatever the rights and wrongs of 1948 and !952, would you not agree with me that it would beneficial for the region if Iran would cease all support for Hezbollah and Hamas, and just forget about Israel?

Where were the calls for a ceasefire eleven months ago when Hezbollah started sending missiles over the border every single day ! Same with Hamas, only being going on for considerably longer than 11 months. Every single rocket launched from the Gaza strip, fired with the aim and hope of killing random Israelis, no matter what their age, no matter what their status.

Irony is alive and well - Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, on Tuesday called on Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon, and warned that the attack would lead to a further escalation of violence in the Middle East. Reuters reports Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement “Russia strongly condemns the attack on Lebanon and calls on the Israeli authorities to immediately cease hostilities, withdraw their troops from Lebanese territory and engage in a real search for peaceful ways to resolve the Middle East conflict.” Earlier Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov expressed concern over Israeli troops crossing into Lebanon, and at reports of an Israeli airstrike in Damascus killing three civilians.

IDF: 180 missiles launched from Iran to Israel..by Emily Atkinson and Emily McGarveyichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/1d9b/live/75a8cef0-8024-11ef-83dd-fbf1b9732cf0.jpgIran has launched a missile attack on Israel - the Israeli military says around 180 missiles were fired, most of which were intercepted No injuries have been reported so far and Israeli authorities say civilians can leave bomb shelters. Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari says "this attack will have consequences" Israeli troops have invaded Lebanon, in what the Israeli military calls a "limited, localised and targeted" ground operation against Hezbollah On Tuesday morning, an Israeli security official told the BBC there had been "no clashes" yet - but a military spokesman later told people in around 25 Lebanese villages to evacuate The Lebanese prime minister says his country is facing "one of its most dangerous phases", and that one million people are displaced

"Is there any evidence that Iran possesses nuclear weapons?" - There is a lot of evidence that they are very close to having nuclear weapons. I do believe that the Israelis are on top of things though, and as soon as Iran gets to that final stage, Israel will bomb whatever facilities they have to. Another worry is just what Iran has received in exchange for the weapons it has supplied to Russia? Would nuclear technology be part of that exchange? I'm willing to bet it is. "Plus the geography. The only way that Iran could directly attack Israel other than by missiles is movement of troops and equipment through Iraq into Syria. Can't see the Israelis letting that happen unscathed." - Iran will not attack Israel directly with troops. They leave the hard work to others (Hamas/Hezbollah/Houthis/Syria etc), the puppets. Iran is just the puppet master. "But they do have a large inventory, 3000 plus, of ballistic missiles." - That is just ballistic weapons. "My bet is they will sit on their hands." - No they won't. They are quite happy to see civilians being killed in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen etc if helps to promote their ideological and barbaric war on the Jewish people. They supply the weaponry to arm their useful idiots in the ME. Would Putin sanction the transfer of nuclear technology? I'm not sure he would give them the final pieces of the jigsaw as that puts a nuclear armed country to their south, irregardless of his current desperation for friends and support. I can see civil nuclear support, but not for a nuclear bomb. The help with tech for a nuclear device does not have to come from Russia. It is a known fact that Pakistan are willing to sell tech. They have done this with North Korea.

Pakistan can assist although proximity to Iran would probably be a factor. North Korea is much further away so they may feel happier with that.

Would an overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim country, sell nuclear technology to an overwhelmingly Shia Muslim country?

Would an overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim country, sell nuclear technology to an overwhelmingly Shia Muslim country? Money talks? Plus.... "Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, there has been considerable effort by the Islamic Republic of Iran to blur the Sunni-Shi’ite rift, which it sees as liable to undermine its efforts to enlist the support of Muslim and Arab public opinion in the campaign against Israel and to arouse opposition from both Sunnis and Shi’ites to its support for the Palestinians, especially Hamas. Statements and commentaries by Iranian officials include two main messages: emphasizing the need for Islamic unity between Shi’ites and Sunnis in the struggle against Israel and presenting the Palestinians as closer to Shi’a despite their Sunni Islamic affiliation. The call for Muslim unity, especially against the enemies of Islam, reflects the official policy of the Islamic Republic since its establishment in 1979. Against the backdrop of the 2011 regional upheaval, which deepened the Sunni-Shi’ite rift in the Arab world, senior Iranian officials, headed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, have stressed that the Islamic Republic advocates Islamic solidarity and is committed to supporting both Shi’ites and Sunnis regardless of their sectarian affiliation. Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, Iranian officials have stressed that increasing unity between Shi’ites and Sunnis will strengthen the Muslim world in the campaign against Israel. Concurrently with the efforts to promote Shi’ite-Sunni unity, the Islamic Republic has not abandoned its Shi’ite identity and has been trying to create an affinity between Sunni Palestinians and Shi’ite Islam. Commentaries published in Iran since the beginning of the war present the Palestinians, including Hamas, as close to Shi’a, mainly because most Palestinians belong to the Shafi’i school of Islam, which is considered closer to Shi’a. According to Iranian clerics, presenting the Palestinians as enemies of Shi’a serves Israel’s interest in sowing discord among Muslims and driving a wedge between Iran and the Shi’ites and the Palestinians and Sunnis. Stressing the need for unity between Shi’ites and Sunnis vis-à-vis Israel Since its establishment in 1979, Iran has adopted an official policy aimed at bridging the gap between Shi’a and Sunna and preaching Muslim unity. Even before the revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the revolution, preached Islamic unity against Western imperialism and called on Sunnis and Shi’ites to abandon their differences.[1] In 1982, the Islamic Republic launched the Annual Unity Week, marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. It has also held the annual International Islamic Unity Conference, attended by Sunni and Shi’ite clerics from Iran and elsewhere." Islamic cooperation

What is the rift between Sunni and Shia? You should know, instead of fishing for answers so you can then accuse someone/anyone of being ill-informed.
