I have tried. I have suggested that literal translation is not always correct. I have said that the general text is supposed to be used as a guide and not to be prescriptive. You may disagree and that's your perogative. As an atheist I reject the Qur'an in the same way as I rejected the bible when Christians tried to indoctrinate me as a child. But my atheism does not mean I accept mindless hatred from people who have no idea of what they are talking about. And that includes cultures that use religion to perpetrate hatred. Like some countries use Islam. Like Zionist extremists use Judaism, like some countries have used catholicism, like the BJP in India use Hinduism. You say you have faith, well you can live with that if you can, I couldn't and cannot. Btw, my atheism was known in Iran and in America. It was largely irrelevant in both cases. I respect that you choose not to have faith,again I don't follow a book nor any religion as such, but I can't believe that us sharing.. ( really pointless posts here between ourselves, or myself cutting my lawn this morning,or shopping this afternoon is all there is to our beings..?) That just doesn't make sense to me, you decide to differ...? And I respect that. However,when I see pure hatred and bullying via a blind faith in religion such as Islam, and I've read the texts within it... thats is full of pure hatred - I cannot...and will not, be silent especially when it's taken over my homeland and my culture.You may not see this,but your ignorance does not make it not true. One translation that I saw was 'roses are red, violets are blue ,my wife is nine and I'm 52' probably not an exact translation but it tells you all you need to know...

My question is how long ago did you live in Iran. ?
Are you basing your opinions purely on your time there which could have been at a time when their view of the western world was totally different from today.
Years ago Iran/Iraq were deemed safe countries to visit for westerners. What in your opinion has changed for them to have such hatred for us now.

My question is how long ago did you live in Iran. ? Are you basing your opinions purely on your time there which could have been at a time when their view of the western world was totally different from today. Years ago Iran/Iraq were deemed safe countries to visit for westerners. What in your opinion has changed for them to have such hatred for us now. Change your language if you want to have a conversation with me. I have absolutely no "affection" for Islam. I have a couple of very good reasons to hate it. But I don't hate the people, I try to understand their viewpoint. For the general population the attitude has not changed that much. In my experience they admired the USA, but never trusted them. They never trusted us and for very good reasons. The biggest betrayal was in 1952 when, on cahoots with the CIA we engineered a coup d'etat and had the democratically elected government over thrown. And then we reimposed the fascist monarchy of the Pahlavi family. You can draw a straight line from 1952 to the events of 1979. When I lived there I felt very safe. When I visited in 2005 I also felt very safe. What do you need to know? |
