I have been thinking for quite a while that most of the hostages must be dead so I am pleased that these 4 have been rescued.

Aljazeera is reporting . . .
“Hamas military spokesman says Israeli army killed captives in Nuseirat operation.
The masked spokesperson for the Qassam Brigades, who goes by nom de guerre Abu Obeida, says that the attacks carried out today by the Israeli military in central Gaza represent a “complex war crime”.
He also said that ” the first to be harmed by [the Israeli army] are its prisoners”, in a reference to the around 120 captives still held in the Gaza Strip.
Here are a few other key things:
The enemy was able, by committing horrific massacres, to free some of his captives, but at the same time, it killed some of them during the operation.
The operation will pose a great danger to the enemy prisoners and will have a devastating impact on their conditions and lives.”
Such a complex situation but one thing which struck me was the description of the “ masked spokesmen for the Qassam Brigades ( military wing of Hamas) which is the same as we used to get for the “ masked spokesman for the Provisional IRA” ( military wing of Sinn Fein). Sinn Fein have now gained political power in both the North and South of Ireland via the ballot box and in years to come are likely to achieve their aim of a United Ireland with most people content that the minority Protestant population will be treated fairly.
But does anyone believe that in the Middle East there will be similar political compromises and the militant Arabs will eventually give up their aim which is the destruction of the state of Israel ?

Yes Well you are living in a bubble then, and know very little about Islam and it's true intentions. If Hamas put down their weapons today then this war is over...But if Israel put their's down first, then the Jews in the middle east will be wiped of the face of the earth along with state of Israel and you must know that? This is a horrible war and the loss of life on both sides is tragic, and I can't see the end of this anytime soon.

In the scenario Israel surrenders, it will be the end of Israel. The Islamist maniacs would kill as many Jews as possible and once they've satisfied their lust for Jewish blood ,they would turn on Christians. Islam in its current form is the Wests deadly enemy and hundreds of thousands of them are around us, in the UK. Strange people like you ,deliberately or inadvertently, support their growth in number.

Pure "straw man" argument. Israel is not going to surrender, they don't need to. But, they are most definitely going to have to negotiate a peace settlement with the Palestinians. The question for all the parties involved is who leads the Palestinians. It cannot be HAMAS who are clearly insane, and the old Palestinian Authority appears to have little support in GAZA. This cries out for a UN intervention with boots on the ground. A large Arab contingent would be a pre requisite. The bottom line is the killing has to stop. Shouting rubbish like indoctrination or responding to the dog whistle of Nigel Farage gets us nowhere.

And 'only' 46% of them sympathise with Hamas. Just shy of 2 million. If Israel put down it's weapons it would be wiped out, that is a certainty. For that is the stated aim of Hamas. Incredibly the far left support these terrorists. Very dangerous left wing bigots.

Nothing to worry about Basel. A projection of the UK Muslim population in 2050 has it at 13 (thirteen) million. You think they have undue influence now? People need to wake up and smell the coffee ffs. From wiki: "The Muslim population of England and Wales has grown consistently since World War II. Sophie Gilliat-Ray attributes the recent growth to "recent immigration, the higher than average birth rate, some conversion to Islam".[73] According to a 2017 projection the Muslim population in the UK in the year 2050 is likely to number around 13 million.[74]"

Most of the Muslims I know and have socialised with sit with me in my lounge where tea is drunk, or alcohol, and we chat about football, jobs, children, schools. You know, the usual stuff. Some are doctors, some run their own business, some are academics. To a man and woman they are almost universally conservative, socially and politically. Their kids, or most of them, have attended university and work professionally now. Your depiction of these good folk is laughable. Have you actually ever knowingly met a Muslim and conversed? It appears not.

If you want to start deciding who is "civilised" and who is not I can fairly confidently predict, if asked, the people I have referred to would almost certainly not define you, personally, as civilised. Quite the contrary

One was recently struck off too.He was a member of ( or even leader?) of a banned terrorist group! Interviewed by Piers Morgan.

If you want to start deciding who is "civilised" and who is not I can fairly confidently predict, if asked, the people I have referred to would almost certainly not define you, personally, as civilised. Quite the contrary Yes,I've met loads and I've posted that. You scoffed at it,naturally. You'll do anything to pretend there is no problem ,or any problem there is ,is the fault of the UK. Your determination to be seen as a right on intellectual makes you blind to what goes on outside your social bubble, imo. It must do because you appear quite blind. By the way and if you want to go down the 'my social circles are more "civilised" and intellectual than yours' route...,I've known/know doctors, solicitors,a Lord, famous actor,a former amateur first class cricketer (like playing for eg Man U for free, that's class) and top University lecturer, I chat to Bristol University lecturer and author, today I was chatting for 40 minutes to two school teachers ( one very right on). Etc.I could go on.
