United were linked with Kane virtually every summer. Many thought when the 30-year-old finally left Tottenham, that is where he would end up. But the move never happened. Instead, it was Bayern who pushed and pushed and eventually persuaded Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to let Kane go in August. United backed away, feeling that executing the transfer would be too expensive, too difficult and would take too long. Instead they signed Rasmus Hojlund. Comparisons between Kane and the 20-year-old Denmark forward are unfair. One is an experienced, proven goalscorer, the other is a youngster of huge potential, just making his way in the game. But it is worth considering this as United try on Tuesday (20:00 GMT) to get the victory essential for them to have any chance of progressing to the last 16. In prize money alone, each victory in the Champions League group phase is worth €2.8m (£2.4m). So far, Bayern have four in this season's competition, United just the one. Qualification for the knockout rounds provides an additional €9.6m (£8.23m), with further riches on offer for reaching the latter stages. Kane rarely gets any negative publicity, and there's a good reason for that. He is a thoroughly decent chap. Does a lot of work for charities (but doesn't shout about it), and was sponsoring Orient shirts for a few seasons, though not sure about this season. www.leytonorient.com/news/2022/june/22/harry-kane-returns-to--shout--about-mental-health/. I know there was a request for him to get a football card signed by him recently... a cheeky favour to ask, but you never know. Within a week a signed card, signed towel and signed Spurs shirt was returned. From the England Captain. Respect Harry, respect. I am a massive fan of HK, quite simply because he is a humble person and as far as we can be sure of is a loving husband and father..... I have some private information that 100% (well 99.9%) that points to him being a loving husband, father and all round decent human being. He and his family works with Haven House Charity (hospice for children) and he dropped off a couple of big bags of 'stuff' a couple of weekends ago. We were also were given a Spurs sports bag, Spurs shorts and signed England shirt (in addition to the above). We gave our friends son the signed Spurs shirt (signed on the inside - he can't legally sign Spurs shirts on the outside any more) and shorts at the weekend. It was quite emotional. A 10yr old boy was just hoping for his football card to be signed... |

It had been a quiet night for ex-Tottenham forward Kane prior to his late fierce strike into the top corner, heading wide when well placed and then blazing over the bar after Hoffenheim had been reduced to 10 men following Grischa Promel's sending off for two bookings. Kane's former Spurs team-mate Eric Dier, who also signed for the German giants on Thursday, was not included in their squad.

Former Bayern defender Mitchell Weiser scored in the 59th minute and Werder held on to clinch their first away win over their opponents since 2008. Harry Kane had a subdued game with a shot over the bar his best effort. Bayern are seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who beat RB Leipzig 3-2 on Saturday, with a game in hand. Werder were much the better team in the first half and home goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had to be at best to keep out a deflected effort from Weiser. Werder forward Justin Njinmah had the ball in the net shortly before the half-hour mark, only for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to flag up a foul on Jamal Musiala shortly beforehand. Wing-back Weiser, who played for Bayern between 2012-2015, claimed the winner when he cut inside Alphonso Davies and fired a stunning effort high into the net. Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel made attacking substitutions in search of an equaliser and teenager Mathys Tel went close on a couple of occasions. Werder held firm and it was the first time the Munich outfit had failed to score in a Bundesliga game at the Allianz Arena in 66 games, dating back to a goalless draw against RB Leipzig in February 2020.

Report By Charlotte Coates, BBC Sport.Bayern Munich bounced back from Sunday's Bundesliga loss to Werder Bremen with a 1-0 win over Union Berlin at Allianz Arena. Thomas Tuchel's side started the game seven points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen and have used their game in hand to close that gap to four. Raphael Guerreiro scored 30 seconds into the second half after Harry Kane hit the post. England's Eric Dier came on at half-time for his Bayern debut. The centre-back joined the German champions earlier this month on loan from Tottenham. After a dull first half, the intensity was upped in the second period with Bayern left-back Guerreiro latching on to Kane's rebounded strike and curling a shot into the top corner with the outside of his left foot. England captain Kane then had his 23rd league goal ruled out by the video assistant referee as Leroy Sane was offside in the build-up. Union Berlin manager Nenad Bjelica was then shown a red card following ugly scenes where he shoved Sane in the face twice. Kane was booked in the final minutes as tempers frayed in Bavaria.

Goals from Aleksandar Pavlovic and Alphonso Davies had given Bayern a comfortable lead at the break. And Kane then tapped in to restore their two-goal advantage after Ermedin Demirovic had headed in for the hosts. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer saved Sven Michel's penalty but Demirovic's spot-kick set up a nervy finale. On-loan Tottenham defender Eric Dier made his first start for Thomas Tuchel's injury-hit side, with Konrad Laimer, Joshua Kimmich and Dayot Upamecano among nine absentees. To add to Bayern's problems, France winger Kingsley Coman was withdrawn during the first half and is now expected to be out for an extended period with a torn medial ligament in his left knee. "It's obviously a real blow," said sporting director Christoph Freund. "Knowing Kingsley, he'll come back even stronger. We wish him a speedy recovery."
