Interesting now, the Tories are turning on themselves when confronted by the reality of labour shortages and undocumented people coming onto our shores seeking asylum. Reported today (and nicely triangulating with the EU "question")
"The UK should seek membership of any new EU scheme to share the burden of asylum seekers as part of a “comprehensive” plan to end the Channel crisis rather than indulging in “rhetoric” to “distract attention”, a Conservative ex-immigration minister has said.
Lord Kirkhope told i that Suella Braverman’s current plans to “stop the boats” were not “sane”, “sensible” or “responsible” and urged the Government to end its “prejudice” against the EU to help solve the problem, adding that the issue would not help the party’s election prospects.
He joined other senior Tories in labelling the Government’s so-called “small boats week” a distraction from figures showing the number of asylum seekers housed in hotels has risen 25 per cent to 50,000 in the six months since Rishi Sunak promised to end their use for accommodation."
Well well, who would have thought it.

You do know that not all countries within the EU agree with the EU immigration quotas?
And the comments of one man suddenly becomes, "Tories are turning on themselves". Not exactly top class reporting is it!

Not exactly top class reporting is it! Hungary, whose Orban wants to be closer to Putin and Russia; and Poland's right wing Government. And oh look, each country can decide under their own Sovereignty [shocker, thought no EU country had sovereignty!] what connection the asylum seeker must have to them.

And oh look, each country can decide under their own Sovereignty [shocker, thought no EU country had sovereignty!] what connection the asylum seeker must have to them. It is not just Hungary and Poland though is it. Look around at what the immigration issue is doing to european politics. Immigration is a global issue and at least, in their own ham fisted way, the EU is trying to find a solution. Climate change, wars, famines and lack of opportunity will mean millions will move, as people always have done to find a safe and better life. You will know from Germany, Nobby, that Turks and even Italians moved there for the car industry. The Tories though are creating an even worse divisive situation by using rhetoric and their usual strategy - defund, increase problems, blame others, bring in mates to make situation worse and pay them stack loads of cash. Backlog was 18,954 people in June 2010, which included 9,441 awaiting an initial decision. There were 166,261 people waiting to have their asylum claims decided at the end of December 2022, according to the latest published data, including 160,919 awaiting an initial decision. This is self inflicted and there are other solutions, but the Tories refuse to use them as the hatred at the moment hides the failure on the economy, Mrs Sunak's family business investment in Russia and the BP contract. the Covid enquiry, Boris Johnson's WhatsApp messages, etc etc. Asylum seekers are the gift that keeps giving to the far right. A local example of the system from yesterday. My wife went to the Royal Hotel in Crewe, now a hostel for asylum seekers. We have a worker shortage but it is full of people stood around, not allowed to do the most basic jobs. They want to work. She and her oppo attended a sick individual. The man's Syrian friend is a fully trained physiotherapist of which the NHS has a shortage. The security guard who has been granted asylum told her it takes up to 3 years to get through the system and you have to sit on your hands all that time. One agency has 760 vacancies ranging from warehouse to admin. Many low skilled jobs. It is bull that most come here to sponge and many are skilled people. How else could they afford to pay the passage to the traffickers when they come from low pay per capita countries?

Sad though, the state our country is in.

The reality is that the training and qualifications they have do not meet the standards required. There is also the language problem. It is not so easy to just say someone is a 'physiotherapist ' and let them treat people. Also, if someone is a professional like this 'physiotherapist ' then why didn't they apply for asylum through the normal legal channels instead of spending money on the boat traffickers?

Of course you don't just allow someone to treat people Nobby, without checks and tests. But on the other hand you don't ignore it either. I don't know his personal story. What if he is anti-Assad and unable to leave legally via Damascus airport without fear of being arrested, tortured, maybe killed? The gent concerned spoke perfect English, I know, bloody foreigners coming over here speaking our language unlike the Brits in Spain who cant be arsed and are now having to come back!
You pick one point and ignore the rest. Should asylum seekers be allowed to work. Should the Tories do a better job of applications. What about the Turks and Italians who have always been in Germany?
And can you tell me what these safe routes you are on about that even Top Tories say are not working to prevent the dangerous routes? Or should we just listen to the far right Tory rhetoric of 'illegals' and send them to a dodgy country?

Wait, no really
"The ‘prestigious prize pathway’ for the Brexit Global Talent visa was launched to much fanfare by then-Home Secretary Priti Patel in 2021. She said the scheme was introduced to bring ‘the best and brightest’ into Britain, lauding the move as a benefit of leaving the European Union."
3 applicants..
"Those who had won the Nobel Prize, Turing Award, and various other top accolades were eligible to come and work in the UK. But, amongst a field of thousands, just two visas were granted last year – and so far in 2023, only one other person has taken up the offer."
Another Brexit "Win" 😱😂😂😂😂😂😂

This used to be the accommodation for British troops when stationed in the Falklands Islands.

220 troops versus 550 migrants. Was that barge evacuated for legionella and were the army warned by the authorities that it was a fire hazard?
Still, listening to a woman who rang a radio show and stunned the host, who is not known for being left leaning, that the 'boats should be turned back at the beaches' and that ' it will be sad but inevitable that there will be deaths' if you do so. Welcome to Tory/BNP/UKIP/Reform/National Front Britain.
