Bloody hell, has this forum dropped far enough down the evolutionary scale to start quoting fairy stories! It may be fairy tales to you Nobby, but millions around the world are still ruled by some of these laws. And some states are quite brutal about using those rules against their populace. I appreciate that many states don't need that excuse like the atheist Pol Pot in Cambodia, but to better deal with people it is logical to understand where they are coming from and why some states can have peace treaties and some seek vengeance!

The real issue here is not that, in my opinion, it's that posting up what you have unsettles the lazy belief that Islam is a religion of hate and violence and Christianity is not. When in fact neither are, unless someone is two parts nuts and makes a literal translation of ancient verses.

It is violent, barbaric and anti British. I haven't seen oldie advocating Sharia law, must have missed that.... But currently in the USA, so called Progressive Christians are supporting a Presidential candidate who is the antithesis of the Christian faith. They want a greater control over people's lives and greater integration of Church and State, something the Founding Fathers specifically fought against. They support Trump's wish to centralise control under the Presidency, effectively allowing him to become a supreme leader, because he says he loves Christians! They have supporters in the UK amongst the ERG [luckily reduced] including people like Jacob Rees Mogg, Ann Widdicombe and others in the Reform Party Ltd, etc who would like to see stricter 'Christian' rules here especially around abortion, LGBTQ+ rights. They included my previous Tory MP Fiona Bruce, and have a track record for voting against LGBTQ+ rights, voting for slashes to benefits, and a severe dislike of being challenged on their views.

Lots of things have changed in that time, maybe it's not Islam itself but certain interpretations of it. Same for a lot of religions.

Huw Edwards pleads guilty to making indecent images..by Bonnie McLaren & Ian Youngs, Culture reporters.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/11/87982463-13692595-Edwards_dressed_in_a_dark_navy_blue_suit_and_blue_tie_appeared_w-m-60_1722422761624.jpgHuw Edwards, once the BBC's most senior news presenter, has pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. He admitted having 41 indecent images of children, which had been sent to him by another man on WhatsApp, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard. They included seven category A images, the most serious classification. Until last year, Edwards was one of the main presenters on BBC One's News at Ten and often fronted coverage of major national events. He was arrested last November and charged last month. He will be sentenced on 16 September and a probation report will been compiled. Edwards was flanked by police officers and surrounded by photographers as he entered and left the court on Wednesday. He was expressionless outside court, and inside the hearing, which lasted for less than half an hour. The court heard that he had been involved in online chat on WhatsApp from December 2020 with an adult man, who sent him 377 sexual images, of which 41 were indecent images of children. As well as the category A images, he also had 12 category B pictures and 22 category C photographs. On 2 February 2021, the other man asked whether what he was sending was too young, to which Mr Edwards asked him not to send any underage images, the court heard. The final indecent image was sent in August 2021 - a category A film featuring a young boy. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/10/87985451-13692595-image-a-4_1722419372543.jpgThe man told Edwards the boy was quite young looking, and that he had more images which were illegal, the court was told. Mr Edwards told him not to send any illegal images. No more were sent, and the pair continued to exchange legal pornographic images until April 2022. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, making indecent images can have a wide definition in the law and can include receiving them via social media. Edwards's barrister Philip Evans KC told the court: "There’s no suggestion in this case that Mr Edwards has... in the traditional sense of the word, created any image of any sort." He added that Edwards "did not keep any images, did not send any to anyone else and did not and has not sought similar images from anywhere else". Mr Evans also said the former broadcaster had experienced "both mental and physical" health issues. The barrister told the court his client "was not just of good character, but of exceptional character". Mr Edwards hasn’t been on air since last July. He resigned from the BBC on medical grounds in April. The Metropolitan Police said the allegations were separate from other claims that were widely reported and investigated last year. "These allegations did not form part of the matter which was considered by police in July 2023. They were investigated separately as a standalone case," a police spokesperson said. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/11/87987991-13692595-image-a-61_1722423106111.jpg

What do they mean when he is charged with "making images"? Are they photos he himself took?

What do they mean when he is charged with "making images"? Are they photos he himself took? It does sound misleading as apparently he was sent the worst ones on a WhatsApp from a third party. And they are supposedly in the worst category. Obviously should have spoken to former PMs Johnson and Sunak about deleting his WhatsApp messages.

BBC knew Huw Edwards had been arrested in November..Steven McIntosh, BBC News.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/11/87986819-13692595-image-m-25_1722421442161.jpgThe BBC knew in November that Huw Edwards had been arrested on suspicion of serious offences, the corporation said. It said the news presenter, who resigned from his job in April, would have been dismissed had he been charged while still employed by the BBC. Its statement came after Edwards pleaded guilty on Wednesday at Westminster Magistrates' Court to three counts of making indecent images of children. He accessed indecent images of children as young as seven on WhatsApp between December 2020 and August 2021, which police said were sent to him by a convicted paedophile. The Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has called an urgent meeting with the BBC’s director general over the organisation's handling of the case. Sources said the meeting is likely to take place on Thursday. BBC News was not aware of the arrest nor charges against Edwards until they were made public on Monday. BBC News is editorially independent when reporting on the BBC. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/08/87904971-13692191-Former_BBC_host_Huw_Edwards_has_been_charged_with_making_indecen-a-1_1722412418950.jpgAfter Edwards pleaded guilty, the corporation said: "The BBC is shocked to hear the details which have emerged in court today. There can be no place for such abhorrent behaviour and our thoughts are with all those affected." It said it had been "made aware in confidence" in November 2023 that Edwards "had been arrested on suspicion of serious offences and released on bail whilst the police continued their investigation". "At the time, no charges had been brought against Mr Edwards and the BBC had also been made aware of significant risk to his health," the statement continued. The corporation noted: "If at any point during the period Mr Edwards was employed by the BBC he had been charged, the BBC had determined it would act immediately to dismiss him. In the end, at the point of charge he was no longer an employee of the BBC." It reiterated that the BBC had "kept its corporate management of these issues separate from its independent editorial functions" during this period. "We want to reiterate our shock at Mr Edwards’ actions and our thoughts remain with all those affected," the statement said. Edwards was suspended by the BBC last July following reports in the Sun newspaper claiming he had paid a young person for sexually explicit images. The Metropolitan Police said they found no evidence of criminal behaviour in relation to those allegations, and that the current case was separate. Last week, the BBC's annual report revealed Edwards received between £475,000-£479,999 between April 2023 and April 2024, an increase of £40,000 on the previous year. A BBC source said the corporation "did not believe there was any legal recourse to recoup any previous pay or future pension money" from Edwards.

Broadcaster Nicky Campbell brands ex-BBC colleague Huw Edwards 'disgusting'..by Katherine Lawtoni.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/31/19/88008249-13694695-image-a-44_1722450964332.jpgBroadcaster Nicky Campbell has branded his ex-BBC colleague Huw Edwards 'disgusting' and urged people to consider the 'callously exploited and psychologically destroyed' child victims. Edwards, 62, today pleaded guilty to receiving 41 indecent images of children, which included two sexual videos of a boy under nine. His former colleague Campbell took to social media to slam Edwards and the other 'disgusting men' involved in the swapping and trading of child pornography. Campbell, 63, has previously revealed how he and his fellow classmates at a top private school were sexually abused by teachers when they were just children in the 1970s. Campbell said he was even molested in front of his class by a history teacher at the £17,500-a-year Edinburgh Academy. After Edwards appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today, Campbell wrote on X, formerly Twitter: 'Let's think about the children in these images. Callously exploited and psychologically destroyed. 'They are not images. They are humans who will live with this forever and all for the twisted pleasure of the disgusting men who trade and swap this misery.' Edwards, whose marriage and journalistic career have now been destroyed, will find out his fate during a sentencing hearing in September.
