Scottish Police have tasered an 11 year old, in a blade stand off situation.
He's believed to be the youngest person to be tasered.
Hopefully the 'little darling' ,his mates and family now realise carrying a deadly weapon around is very naughty indeed.
Well done to the Scottish Bobbies.

It's a shame a child thought it okay to carry a deadly weapon and then refuse to hand it over to the Police.
It's a shame the Police felt it necessary to taser the child.
But,a line has to be drawn when considering todays deadly knife culture.
The Police did their job and hopefully it may save someone from awful injury or death in the future.

It doesn't matter if you're a soldier, sailor, policeman whatever, but it's always better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6. No one is celebrating the Poluce tasering this kid, but how sad is the fact that they had to.

Let's see what the outcome is, if indeed there is one.

The Police are put in an impossible situation in these cases,if the knife wielder stabs someone the Police will be blamed but when they take action the 'oh poor kid he had a terrible upbringing' lot start wringing their hands and calling the Police/government/society 'far right' 'fascist' 'nazi' 'authoritarian' etc etc....its like the 'Young ones' Rick screeching 'fascist pigs' all the time.

The bottom line is that the Police, at the end of the day, just want to go home to their families. If there is a knife welding maniac, no matter what age, then Taser them, disarm them, and then they can go home to see their families.

The kid was 11 years old. I don't know obviously, any more than you do, but I do struggle to conceive how 2 or 3 trained police officers couldn't have dealt with this without tasering the kid. What would the kid be, 80lbs? Sure he could have inflicted real damage, but really??

If an 11 year old is a "knife wielding maniac" at that age then there is most likely something seriously wrong with him. Pretty sure tasering will not help the kid if this true. More likely to turn him into a full grown 15-16 stone maniac. Consequences and all that

Ahhhh....good
"As part of standard procedure, the circumstances of the incident were referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner."
A PIRC spokeswoman said: "We are investigating the circumstances, and once our investigations are complete a report will be issued to the Chief Constable."

Would you want to be the one to try and take the knife off of the kid? If it is something you would not do then don't expect others to do it.

Well, if I was a trained Police Officer I would like to think I would be confident enough to overwhelm a 11 year old child. If there were 3 of us, no doubt. I am not trying to be critical here for the sake of it. But I do think it is valid to ask why the hell we are having to taser our kids. Hopefully the report will shed some light on what the hell happened. On a broader not I do find it a bit sick that some stand up and cheer when this stuff happens. Not you Nobby.

Absolute do gooder rubbish. Deliberately pretending anyone is cheering without realising how sad it is a child is carrying a knife,Police feeling the need to taser and what a poor reflection on society this episode is, is just more boring virtue signalling and phoney moral high ground grabbing crap. You Oldie. Well done to the Police for making our streets safer. At least this time.

It goes from one extreme to another...Outcry as Australian police Taser 95-year-old care home resident...By Tiffanie Turnbull and Tom Housden, BBC News, Sydney.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/05/18/23/71159751-12100765-image-a-8_1684450245855.jpgAn elderly Australian woman with dementia is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being Tasered by police at a care home. Officers were called to Yallambee Lodge in Cooma after reports that 95-year-old Clare Nowland was carrying a knife. The early morning incident has sparked outcry, over what advocates say was a disproportionate response. The New South Wales (NSW) police chief has said she shares community concerns, and an investigation is under way. Ms Nowland was found "armed" with a steak knife in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Cotter told media on Friday. Two officers and care home staff tried to de-escalate the situation, before she began approaching police - "it is fair to say at a slow pace" - and was Tasered. "She had a walking frame. But she had a knife," he said. Family friend Andrew Thaler claimed Ms Nowland was struck twice - in the chest and the back - before she fell, suffering a fractured skull and a serious brain bleed. Her family are already grieving as they do not expect her to survive, he told the BBC. "The family are shocked, they're confused... and the community is outraged." "How can this happen? How do you explain this level of force? It's absurd." Community groups, including the NSW Council for Civil Liberties and People with Disability Australia (PwD), have criticised the police response. "She's either one hell of an agile, fit, fast and intimidating 95-year-old woman, or there's a very poor lack of judgement [from] those police officers," PwD President Nicole Lee told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). "She needed somebody to... handle her with compassion and time, and not Tasers." NSW Police has launched a critical incident investigation, which Commissioner Karen Webb said is being treated with "the utmost seriousness". "I understand and share the community concerns," she said. The officer involved has not been suspended, but will be interviewed as part of the investigation, which will include the homicide squad. "No officer, not one of us, is above the law," Mr Cotter said. "All our actions will be scrutinised robustly from a criminal perspective as well." The care home, which is run by the Snowy Monaro Regional Council, has defended its response. The staff followed procedures and did what was needed in the circumstances, the council's chief operating officer Jeff Morgan told local media. Yallambee Lodge opened in 1995 and looks after residents with "higher needs", according to its website. Ms Nowland has lived at the home for more than five years, the ABC reported. The great-grandmother is well known locally, and appeared on TV in 2008 to mark her 80th birthday by sky-diving over Canberra.

There That's not cheering matey. Perhaps we need to understand as a nation why young people are carrying weapons, why areas of poverty seem to have more violence and crime, and how and if there is a bias in the tactics used in certain areas. Raising standards of living for all reduces violent crime and the necessity for petty crime. Perhaps 11 year olds wouldn't feel the need to carry weapons or get involved in crime if they felt safer and weren't living in poverty.

I have met many older people who lived through times of real poverty, these old people say things like "we were poor but we made our own entertainment" they never mention that their entertainment was stabbing people.
