Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "The audio didn't change it at all because I was not really interested in why things happened because I knew - I saw the outcome, I saw the goal and we scored. It didn't count so I was not waiting for the audio and a statement and hoping to find out how it could happen. He added: "I think the only outcome should be a replay. That's how it is, [although that] probably will not happen." Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on why a replay is the right thing to do: "The argument against that probably will be that if you open that gate then everybody will ask for it. I think the situation is that unprecedented that it didn't happen before. Something like that, as far as I can remember, never happened that's why I think a replay would be the right thing. "If it would happen again then I think the replay would be the right thing to do, or the ref has the opportunity to bring both coaches together and say 'sorry we made a mistake but we can sort it, let Liverpool score a goal and we start from there'." Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on the match officials: "I am not angry with anybody at all. They [the match officials] made a mistake and they felt horrible that night, I am 100% sure. That's enough, for me. Nobody needs further punishment." Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on what needs to happen to improve VAR: "In the end, they are going to put it right. Believe it or not, but I believe in that. "Mistakes happened, they shouldn't, but that is how it is - it is fine. "[The key thing is to] learn from it, find a solution how to deal with it. "The solution for me is not only improving the process. Things need as much time as they need. The problems are obvious. We should try to create a situation where these people can make the best decisions." Jurgen Klopp returned to his initial call for a replay while saying he believes there should be a change in the rules in the future to allow officials to call back play if they realise a mistake has been made. He said: "In a situation like this - a real, massive mistake with a lot of people involved - correct it in that moment. "But obviously the people thought that's not what they can do. Fine, then let's do a replay and if it happens next time then give them the chance to do it like this [calling back play] then we don't have that problem [the need for a reply] at least any more." i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31103641.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_GettyImages-1680921575.jpg

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/006d/live/0b545a70-6756-11ee-ae09-0fbdfb2f58fc.pngJohn Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap believes Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has brought back a connection between the club and fans that had been lost since Bill Shankly. Klopp is currently the longest-serving manager in the Premier League and marked eight years in charge of the Reds at the weekend. Shankly enjoyed an iconic 15 years in charge at Anfield in the 1960s and 1970s, taking the club from the old second division and establishing them as a major force in English and European football. "It's how you are as a person, what kind of leader you are and how you speak about a lot of things," Gibbons told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "Every club has managers they look up to and adore, but I think Bill Shankly really changed it at Liverpool by being a father of the modern football club and how he spoke about what was important to people, and the duty a club has to its supporters. "That had been lost a little bit before Jurgen Klopp came in. He brought that spirit all back and brought us all together. "He brought us in as The Anfield Wrap to have a direct line of communication with them. The fans and players have really, really responded to that. "He's proved so many times that, when everyone pulls together, you can achieve remarkable things."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/3bf3/live/3d2db060-49a5-11ee-9b58-cb80889117a8.jpgWe asked for your views on Sunday's game between Brighton and Liverpool.
Here are some of your comments:Rae: Sorry to say that, with Klopp, it is Groundhog Day every match. Regardless of our opposition, we play the same 4-3-3 formation. Mac Allister is not a holding midfielder, and missing out on a top-class central defensive midfielder in the summer is starting to cost big. Chris: My blood pressure goes up less these days when we go behind, but I still prefer it if we don't concede first. We were so slow again in much of the build-up and, while patience might be a virtue in football games, you can also be too patient. Speed and direct play got the goals and the second-half chances, but they were not enough. Still, we didn't lose! Will: I thought Liverpool were poor. I can’t understand why they didn’t do much of the stuff they are great at: being attack-minded and splitting open the opposition with amazing passes. We were defensive-minded, always looking to pass backwards and personal duels were lost all over the place. I’ve downgraded my expectations after that performance. David: Get rid of Matip. There are three other central defenders who should play in front of him. He’s too slow and he was like Bambi on ice in the instance when he couldn’t sort his feet out to clear the ball.

Liverpool delay Anfield Road Stand upper tier opening until 2024..By Mandeep Sanghera, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/5B68/production/_131400432_gettyimages-1610635367.jpg Liverpool are redeveloping the Anfield Road Stand, which was last revamped in 1998The upper tier of Liverpool's Anfield Road Stand will remain closed for the rest of the calendar year, the Premier League club announced on Thursday. The club are conducting an £80m upgrade to lift capacity by 7,000 to 61,000. Liverpool changed contractors to Rayner Rowen Group last month after Buckingham Group went into administration. Club chief executive Billy Hogan said it was "not possible at this point to put a new timeline in place" for completion of the expansion project. It had initially been hoped the work would be finished by the start of this season. Liverpool have taken the decision to keep that area of the stand closed until 2024 to allow fans clarity and the new contractors time to gather all the information they need to complete a revised project schedule. "On a project of this size, information on all the aspects of the work is critical to move forward," said Hogan. "And what's become clear in the last few days is there's just more work to be done in order to get a full project completion plan for the stand, which means unfortunately as I said that the upper tier is not ready to partially or fully open until the end of the calendar year." Only the lower tier of the Anfield Road Stand has been occupied by supporters this season, with the ground's capacity reduced to 50,000. "Rayner Rowen really needs the time to complete the information-gathering before we commit to any new project timeline," said Hogan. "There's a lot of different, various factors that are going into this discussion and into this review, so many pieces of the jigsaw that we need to pull together so it's just not possible at this point to put a new timeline in place." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/71b1/live/fcdec6e0-68e2-11ee-9873-cfe6ab4457db.jpg

Andrew Robertson: Scotland and Liverpool defender suffers shoulder injury..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9880/production/_131404093_gettyimages-1720613300.jpg Andy Robertson injured his shoulder in a challenge with Spain goalkeeper Unai SimonScotland captain Andrew Robertson suffered a serious-looking shoulder injury during the Euro 2024 qualifying defeat by Spain. The Liverpool left-back, 29, had to leave the pitch before the break in Seville with his arm cradled in his shirt after a challenge with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon. Robertson was replaced by Everton's Nathan Patterson, The defender looked in discomfort as he left the pitch. "We'll have a look and he'll go back to his club now," Scotland head coach Steve Clarke told Viaplay following the defeat in Seville. "It always seems to happen when you lose one player in a position. We lose Kieran [Tierney] then Andy picks up a shoulder injury. "We'll see how it is and how it settles down. Hopefully he's good for his club as soon as possible and ready to help us in November." Scotland, who needed a draw in Seville to clinch qualification for Euro 2024, will qualify if Norway fail to win at home to Spain on Sunday. Robertson looks likely to miss Scotland's next match against France in a friendly on Tuesday and could sit out Liverpool's derby with Everton on 21st October.

MONDAY 16th OCTOBER 2023 - EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP - QUALIFYING GROUP B
Greece 0 Netherlands 1 (Virgil van Dijk 90+3 pen)
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/165CA/production/_131449519_netherlands1.jpg Virgil van Dijk scored his first international goal since September 2022Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk scored a 93rd-minute penalty to give the Netherlands a crucial victory against Greece in Euro 2024 qualifying. Van Dijk converted from the spot after Denzel Dumfries was fouled in the box to edge his team up to second place in Group B. Greece coach Gus Poyet received a red card for his protestations. The Netherlands are level on points with third-placed Greece but lead the head-to-head having beaten them twice. If the Dutch now beat the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar in their final two games they will be guaranteed to reach next summer's tournament in Germany behind France, who have already qualified from the group. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/1261E/production/_131449257_netherlands2.jpg

Mohamed Salah says 'humanity must prevail' in Israel-Gaza conflict..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E5AC/production/_131469785_salah_gettytwo.jpg Mohamed Salah played for Egypt in an international friendly against Algeria on MondayLiverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah has called for "world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls" amid the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict. Health officials said hundreds of people were killed by an explosion at a crowded hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday night. Salah, 31, said humanitarian aid to Gaza must be allowed "immediately". "There has been too much violence, heartbreak and brutality," he said. Palestinian officials say the blast at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital was caused by an Israeli air strike. But the Israeli military say it was the result of a failed rocket launch by Palestinian Islamic Jihad - an accusation the militant group rejected. Israeli warplanes and artillery have been bombarding Gaza in response to an unprecedented attack on Israel on 7 October by the main Palestinian militant group, Hamas, which killed 1,400 people. More than 3,000 people have been reported killed by strikes on Gaza. Salah described the scenes from the hospital as "horrifying". "The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently," Salah said in a video posted on X. "All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart. "I am calling on the world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls. "Humanity must prevail." The Algerian football federation said on Wednesday it is suspending all football competitions and matches "in solidarity with the Palestinian people". The governing body had previously agreed to host the Palestine national team's forthcoming football matches following a request from the Palestinian FA.

Playing for Liverpool 'changed my life'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/9e45/live/3b722390-6d19-11ee-868f-85e66399f695.jpgIt was a "life changing" time for Charlie Adam to be playing for Liverpool. The former midfielder, who is now loan manager for Burnley, joined the Reds from Blackpool in 2011 when Kenney Dalglish was manager. Speaking on the Sacked In The Morning podcast, Adam reflected on the emotions of playing at Anfield for the first time. "It was emotional. My dad was a big part of my career, in terms of growing up to really getting there," said the former Scotland international. "I was okay, I was a bit nervous but I was okay, but ultimately when I see a grown man crying in the stands because of playing for Liverpool, playing for Kenny Dalglish who was dad's hero, my mum was there as well, so that's when it got to me and I was emotional then because I knew how much it meant to them. "I was more nervous about being around the players and it took me a little while to get used to the quality of player that I was around and in terms of how they went around it, but when I was there I was fine playing and that when I was on the pitch. "But, to see my dad and my mum so emotional in the stands, that was when it really hit that something's life changing and it did change my life. It was an incredible year and very fortunate to play for Liverpool."

21.10.2023 - Liverpool 2 Everton 0
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/303D/production/_131494321_salah-main.jpg Mohamed Salah scored the 200th and 201st league goals of his careerMohamed Salah was the Merseyside derby match-winner with a second-half double as Liverpool defeated 10-man Everton in the Premier League. Salah's confident penalty in front of the Kop End following Michael Keane's handball ended a frustrating 75 minutes for the home side and he added a late second as the Reds went momentarily top of the table - before Man City's win later on Saturday. It took the Egypt international's tally to 201 career league goals and victory maintained Liverpool's recent dominance over their neighbours in this fixture. Jurgen Klopp's side searched for a way to break the deadlock in the second period after Ashley Young was sent off for two bookable offences, with both fouls coming on Luis Diaz. The hosts had been finding it difficult to make in-roads despite having a man advantage, with many of their efforts from long range comfortable for Jordan Pickford to deal with. The England international smothered Alexis Mac Allister's rasping effort and Darwin Nunez's strike, while dipping drives from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai both dropped narrowly over. Everton maybe should have gone ahead in the opening couple of minutes but Dominic Calvert-Lewin could only divert his header straight at Alisson. Dwight McNeil's curling effort was also deflected over the crossbar, but they were finally breached with 15 minutes to go and again in injury time, leaving Sean Dyche's side with only two wins in nine league games this season. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I liked it a lot. It is a derby, you have to consider different stuff. With a better last pass in the first-half we are three nil up. Our counter attacks and good offensive transitions, we should have scored and didn’t. “We didn’t allow them to do what they wanted. We were clear in the challenges. It is difficult because it was a deep block and they adapted slightly and set up to our strengths. “I liked a lot of moments and then the red card was pretty influential in the game. I wanted us to be calm and ignore that we were one man up. It is difficult in the stands because it’s like now you have to create with each possession and it took a while until we got chances. And then the penalty. I saw it back and it is a clear penalty. Ibrahima [Konate], could have gone, yes. It could have happened obviously and then we took him off and from that moment we were solid and compact.” Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “In my opinion the hard work came form the fight Everton put in. The long balls, the set pieces, they tried to counter on us but we were very prepared for it. The message was to stay patient and play quick from side to side. They made the change at half-time to play with five at the back and we had to be more patient. “It is difficult to face teams playing with 10 men. We have been on the other side and done well. Our mindset was they were still playing with 11 because it is a bit of mental thing when you have a man extra. “We have been doing it [breaking quickly] for many seasons it is a big strength with the pace. The second goal especially. It is something we enjoy and have to keep going.” ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/6796/live/3b11f530-7019-11ee-849d-c1232c7cec7c.jpg

Andy Robertson injury: Liverpool left-back has operation on shoulder..

"He's had his surgery and it all went well, as good as it could be," Klopp told a news conference. "We don't know how long it will take but the first step is done." Robertson, who has played 8 league games and scored one goal for Liverpool this season, was replaced by Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas for last weekend's Merseyside derby win against Everton. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/7BA0/production/_131484613_gettyimages-1720708352.jpg

Liverpool honour Bill Kenwright.. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7c68/live/801b8ca0-7432-11ee-b719-d3fa616a2e3f.jpgBefore kick-off in the Europa League match between Liverpool and Toulouse at Anfield, the club marked the sad passing of Everton chairman Bill Kenwright by playing The Hollies song 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'. Liverpool say the song had been chosen because - as part of his and Everton's unwavering support for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster - Kenwright personally picked it to be played at Goodison Park following the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel Report in September 2012. Back in 2013, Kenwright paid tribute to victims of the Hillsborough disaster at a remembrance service at Anfield. Also in Kenwright's honour tonight, the players, managers and backroom staff will wear black armbands.
