"What we have to do better is when you have 70% ball possession, you need to create more chances than what we did. "It would help if some individual performances would have been better." On the international break affecting Liverpool's performance: "I don't like to use those excuses. You have to give credit to Forest, well organised and a good game-plan. "We have to find better options than what we found today with the low block of Nottingham Forest."

Here are some of your comments:
Liverpool fansGeoffrey: Did anyone other than Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz break a sweat? Not quick or intelligent enough to see movement or find the right players. Far too slow in everything. Mohamed Salah - learn to pass properly. Awful display! Vardon: An all too familiar scene played out in front of a frustrated home crowd, reminding all Liverpool fans that just tweaking things with the existing squad won't guarantee a win against well drilled and disciplined 'lesser' opponents. Poor passing and little creativity in the final third led to an exasperating spectacle. Time to reflect and adapt. Fraser: What on earth happened to that patient style of play that helped us win our first three games? The moment we conceded we went into full panic mode, just as we did towards the end of last season. Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were just not on point. It's still early days but I hope this is not the start of a slump. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/14/16/89676041-0-image-a-3_1726328603516.jpg

Tuesday 17th September 2024 - UEFA Champions League - League Stage
AC Milan 0 Liverpool 3 (Konate 23, Van Dijk 41, Szoboszlai 67)

Match report by Joe Rindl, BBC Sport journalist, MilanLiverpool claimed an assured victory at AC Milan on their Champions League return to firmly bounce back from Saturday's shock defeat by Nottingham Forest. The Reds were stunned on the break inside three minutes when AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic found the net with a driven strike across goal. But Arne Slot's side responded with a dominant performance and, after Mohamed Salah hit the bar, defender Ibrahima Konate levelled with a stooping 23rd-minute header from Trent Alexander-Arnold's free-kick. Salah struck the bar again before Virgil van Dijk completed the turnaround shortly before half-time when he met Konstantinos Tsimikas' corner with a close-range header. The win was wrapped up in the 67th minute when Cody Gakpo ended an electric run by squaring the ball to Dominik Szoboszlai for a tap-in. Liverpool also gave a brief debut to summer signing Federico Chiesa who replaced Salah in the 93rd minute. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/17/21/89792815-13860947-image-a-28_1726605605062.jpg

We have more than 11 players and the ones that came in did well. You wouldn't have said this after five minutes, but after we did well. "Losing Saturday was a blow and to be 1-0 down early tonight, you are wondering how we react. "But if you can play so good it is - I won't say a disgrace - unbelievable you lose to Forest at home if you can play like this today. "I would have played Cody Gakpo on Saturday but he played two games for the national side. Today was more a team display than an individual display."

Liverpool fan in Italy for match dies in crash..

Philip Dooley, 51, from Liverpool, was struck by a vehicle in Bergamo in the early hours of Tuesday, Merseyside Police have said. The force said its officers have informed Mr Dooley's next of kin in Merseyside and were helping the police in Italy. Two men who witnessed the incident are also helping Italian police with their investigation. The lifelong Liverpool fan had travelled to Italy for Tuesday's game against AC Milan, according to Liverpool FC. Liverpool players wore black armbands to pay tribute to Mr Dooley while representatives from both teams place flowers on what would have been his seat for the Champions League clash. The club posted on X: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our supporter Philip Dooley, following a road traffic accident in Bergamo. "The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to the club are with Philip’s family, friends and fellow supporters at this extremely difficult time." A club spokesman added: "Our staff in Milan are working with the local police and consulate, and continue to provide support to other fans impacted by this devastating incident. "Rest in peace, Philip." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/17/13/89773709-13846355-image-a-102_1726576712419.jpgThe supporter was killed after trying to cross the A4 motorway in Milan to get to their hotel

Borussia Dortmund's 22-year-old winger Karim Adeyemi is a target for Liverpool. The Merseyside club want the Germany forward to replace Mohamed Salah in the summer. Finally, Everton are not concerned about a January transfer window approach for 22-year-old centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite from rivals Liverpool. Paris St-Germain are leading the race to sign Mohamed Salah and will try to tempt the 32-year-old with a three-year deal when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season. Meanwhile, the Reds have identified Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi as a potential successor to Salah, and are ready to make a £41m bid for the 22-year-old. Real Madrid have already made contact with England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, as they continue their attempt to lure the 25-year-old away from Anfield at the end of the season. Finally, Liverpool are ready to offload 31-year-old Wataru Endo in January, as they pursue younger options in defensive midfield.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7e8a/live/ef41ce60-4a6e-11ef-b2d2-cdb23d5d7c5b.jpgWe wanted to know your views on Liverpool's win over Bologna in the Champions League, as Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah helped the Reds secure another three points at Anfield.
Here are some of your comments:Arthur: A good win, with lots of positives, against an impressive Bologna side. This seemed like Liverpool's most dominant start to a game this season, which suggests that Slot put a 'flea' in the players ears after the slow start against Wolves at the weekend. Bologna belied their 13th place in Serie A and, apart from Real Madrid, Liverpool aren't likely to face any tougher Champions League home games in their group. Neil: A good win against a decent Bologna side. Ryan Gravenberch was outstanding again. Another clean sheet and a cracking goal from Salah. All we can do is keep winning our games. Clappu: It wasn't great again, but job done. The points are in the bag and that is all you can ask for. Arne Slot has won all but one game so far - Liverpool fans would have taken that at the start of the season and we haven't even hit top form yet. Stuart: We had some good spells in the game. It was very even and it was probably the correct result. Liverpool need to stop switching off when they are 1-0 up. They got lucky again not to be punished. A great goal from Salah. Kopper: We are not quite firing on all cylinders but eight out of nine wins for Slot - a record - is a fine way to get your foot in the door. Imagine how good it is going to be when the wrinkles have been smoothed out. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/02/21/90385905-13917933-image-a-38_1727900830300.jpg

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
Here are some of your comments:
Liverpool fansKev: Hard-fought win and made harder by not scoring more, especially in the first half. Overall we probably deserved it and it's very pleasing to go into the international break top of the league. Stuart: Lucky not to concede again and that luck will run out sooner or later. Will Salah play every minute of every game? We need him fresh and firing at the end of the season. He should be subbed for his and our own good. Vardon: A win is a win, but it was far less comfortable at times than it should have been. The injuries overshadow the result. We're going into a very difficult run of fixtures without our first-choice goalkeeper and Mac Allister is pivotal to our midfield. This will test our mettle and hamper our chances of winning the Premier League. Simon: We should have been out of sight by half-time. Tried to pass the ball into the net rather than shooting on sight. Over-confidence and complacency set in and we allowed Palace into the game. A better team would have punished us. Was glad to hear the final whistle. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/05/15/90490987-13927603-image-a-25_1728137221326.jpg

Ex-Hibs, Liverpool & Scotland midfielder Peter Cormack has died aged 78..by Harry Bamfordi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/11/10/90736185-13949189-image-a-48_1728638546013.jpgLiverpool have announced the death of their former Liverpool midfielder Peter Cormack at the age of 78. The Merseyside club confirmed that the ex-Scotland international passed away on Thursday night. In a statement, the club said: 'We are deeply saddened by the passing of former midfielder Peter Cormack, aged 78. Rest in peace, Peter.' The news comes five years after the family of the former Red revealed he was battling dementia. Cormack spent four years at Anfield during the reigns of Bill Shankly and Bill Paisley, making 178 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals. Cormack arrived in Merseyside in the summer of 1972 from Nottingham Forest and played a major part in helping Shankly’s win the First Division title for the first time in seven years. In the same season, Cormack played every minute of Liverpool's UEFA Cup triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach, the club's first major trophy win in Europe. The midfielder went on to win the FA Cup as a red, playing a key role in the side that beat Newcastle to the trophy in 1974. Despite Shankly's decision to leave the club at the end of that season, Cormack decided to stay on at Anfield and fight for his place. However, in December 1975, the Scot suffered a serious knee injury that curtailed his time at the club earlier than expected. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/11/09/90735425-13949189-image-a-46_1728637181613.jpgHe went on to play for Bristol City, Hibernian - where he started his career - and Partick Thistle before retiring from club football in 1980. Cormack also represented his country, pulling the Scotland jersey a total of nine times between 1966 and 1971. Following his decision to retire from the game, Cormack moved into management with Partick, where he spent four years in charge. He went on to manage Anorthosis, Botswana, Cowdenbeath, and Greenock Morton as his career took him across the globe. Cormack subsequently stepped away from management in 2002, putting an end to a near 40-year involvement in the sport. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/11/10/90736175-13949189-image-a-47_1728638543381.jpg

Sunday 20th October 2024 - Premier League - Anfield
Liverpool 2 (Salah 29 pen, Jones 51) Chelsea 1 (Jackson 48)

Match report by Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at AnfieldLiverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea at Anfield as manager Arne Slot's outstanding start continued. The Dutchman is the first Liverpool boss to win 10 of his first 11 games, this latest triumph sending them a point clear of Manchester City following their dramatic stoppage-time victory at Wolves earlier. Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the spot after 29 minutes following Levi Colwill’s foul on Curtis Jones, though a second penalty awarded on the stroke of half-time for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez's block on the same player was overturned by the video assistant referee (VAR) after initially being awarded by referee John Brooks. Chelsea took advantage of that VAR reprieve to equalise three minutes after the break, Nicolas Jackson racing clear to score, the goal awarded after being ruled out for offside. Liverpool took only three minutes to restore their lead, Jones stealing in at the far post to steer Salah's cross past a hesitant Sanchez in front of a joyous Kop. It mean Slot's only loss since succeeding Jurgen Klopp was to Nottingham Forest at Anfield in September, while this was Chelsea's first league defeat under new manager Enzo Maresca since the opening-weekend home reverse against Manchester City. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/18/13/91010655-13974901-Arne_Slot_has_led_Liverpool_to_the_top_of_the_Premier_League_ahe-a-8_1729254001547.jpgArne Slot spoke to BBC Match of the Day after Liverpool's victory against Chelsea: "Many other games were hard but this might have been the hardest maybe because of the amount of quality players they have and the structure they have. We had to fight really hard to get this one over the line. "We defended so strong through the whole team. There was incredible work rate. The game became difficult for us because there were a few decisions in my opinion that didn't go for us, the most crucial was when we thought we had the penalty before half time. To go 2-0 before half time would make a massive difference from 1-0. Then we conceded but we stepped up again and scored the second. "The better the teams you face the more you need it [fight]. In the Premier League there are so many good teams so if you want to win at least you need to fight and then hopefully the individuals can make the difference. "It helps if you play against a Chelsea, it is a big game and everyone feels it. We felt it and the fans felt it because they were there for us today. "We showed up, that was the most important thing."

Match report by Neil Johnston, BBC Sport journalistLiverpool's strong start under Arne Slot continued as Darwin Nunez's goal extended their 100% winning record in the Champions League. Nunez marked his fourth start under Slot with a 27th-minute finish from close range against RB Leipzig as the Reds made it 11 wins out of 12 in all competitions under their Dutch manager. Uruguay forward Nunez turned in a fine shift and went close to a second goal before half-time when his header was tipped over the crossbar by former Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, who also denied Virgil van Dijk after the defender was left unmarked at a corner. Liverpool produced a controlled performance in Germany and looked to have won a penalty when Nunez, who was a real menace, was clipped by Willi Orban in the 38th minute only for the officials to wave away the visiting team's protests. There were one or two anxious moments for the Reds before Liverpool were able to celebrate an eighth straight win in all competitions. At 0-0, goalkeeper CaoimhIn Kelleher was almost embarrassed when his weak headed clearance after charging off his line led to a chance for Benjamin Sesko whose curled attempt dropped just wide. Kelleher made amends with smart saves to keep out Sesko and Xavi Simons. RB Leipzig also had two goals ruled out for offside, but Liverpool showed good game management to get over the line and leave themselves in a strong position before Champions League home games against Bayer Leverkusen - managed by former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso - and record 15-time winners Real Madrid. This win means Liverpool join Premier League rivals Aston Villa with three wins out of three in European football's top club competition.

Here are some of your comments:
Liverpool fansMatt: Thought generally Liverpool controlled the game and that Chelsea were quite fortunate to score. Curtis Jones was outstanding both going forwards and backwards and is making a case for inclusion in the starting XI on a long-term basis. However, the ref had an absolute shocker. Lost the plot. Graham: A game between two extremely good teams that would usually end up as a draw but Liverpool just managed a very talented Chelsea team. In the seven minutes added time, under Jurgen Klopp we might well have conceded late because we would have gone all out for the third and left ourselves open at the back. Robby: That was tough. Chelsea played their part in an end-to-end game. I will tell you what though, this Liverpool team won’t lose many games this season. Arne Slot has a squad capable of winning this league. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/20/19/91071189-13980939-image-a-36_1729450101583.jpg

We asked for your thoughts after Wednesday's Champions League game between RB Leipzig and Liverpool.
Here are some of your comments:Michael: We were immensely lucky yet again. You need that sometimes, I know, but our underlying numbers aren't as good as our results suggest. I'm concerned that this good fortune will slip when it matters. We won't have very marginal offsides going our way forever. I see people being very cynical about Arsenal at the moment, because of their injuries, but I feel they will surprise us. Guy: Controlled, effective and balanced. Slot and his team have clearly been watching this Liverpool team for a while and have realised what is needed. The heavy metal is out and the orchestras are starting to play. The balance between defence, midfield and attack is frighteningly good, considering the chase for Martín Zubimendi. Gravenberch is now the conductor. Eug: A good game. Liverpool dominated the game and I'm glad Nunez scored. I'm surprised Leipzig didn't play better. I thought Kelleher made some good saves, so well done him. Geoff: Another generally good performance where we look composed and lethal in attack but we need to, and should have, scored more goals. However, I have no real complaints when we win and gain maximum points, as we have done. Let's see how we handle this testing period ahead. Well done Reds! Peter: It's hard to believe where we are - we haven't played anywhere near our full potential in nearly every game and yet we are still winning. I'm looking forward to when we start to put it together because we will be formidable and mightily impressive. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/24/00/91204541-13993829-The_Reds_maintained_their_perfect_start_in_the_competition_with_-a-13_1729727186638.jpg

Match report by Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Emirates StadiumMohamed Salah's late equaliser gave Liverpool a point against Premier League title rivals Arsenal in an eventful encounter at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal led twice but were undermined by injuries to key defenders Gabriel and Jurrien Timber in the second half, having already been without the suspended William Saliba. The setbacks allowed Liverpool to apply pressure and take a point, leaving Manchester City at the top of the table - with Arsenal now five points adrift of the relentless reigning champions. Arsenal were rewarded for a fast start when Bukayo Saka bamboozled Andy Robertson to score his 50th Premier League goal, striking at the near post after nine minutes. Their lead only lasted until the 18th minute when Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk equalised, nodding in from close range after Luis Diaz headed on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross at the near post. Mikel Merino put Arsenal ahead again with a powerful header from Declan Rice's free-kick shortly before half-time. Liverpool improved after the break and Salah equalised with a routine finish from Darwin Nunez's unselfish square ball after he had been set clear by Alexander-Arnold's superb pass. It leaves them a point behind Manchester City in second place.

Match report by Gary Rose, BBC Sport journalistCody Gakpo scored twice to help send holders Liverpool into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a thrilling victory at Brighton. After a goalless and largely forgettable first half, Dutch forward Gakpo broke the deadlock a minute after the break in stunning fashion, cutting inside before launching an unstoppable drive into the back of the net. The goal sparked the game into life and goalkeeper Vítezslav Jaros, making his full debut for the Reds, made a brilliant one-handed save moments later to keep out Simon Adingra's header. Evan Ferguson then fired over the bar but Liverpool had a golden chance to add a second when the visitors broke three on one, but Gakpo unselfishly decided to pass to Dominik Szoboszlai and his effort was blocked by the recovering Brighton defence. However, Gakpo was not to be denied his second when a mistake by Tariq Lamptey allowed him to run unchallenged into the box and fire home. Brighton pushed in the closing stages and got a goal back when a Liverpool defensive mistake was pounced upon and Adingra prodded in to halve the deficit. That roused the home fans but Luis Diaz made sure of Liverpool's progress when he squeezed in an 81st-minute third, despite a late deflected finish by Lamptey.

Match report by Emlyn Begley, BBC Sport journalist at AnfieldLiverpool came from behind to beat Brighton at a rocking Anfield and go top of the Premier League on the day their two title rivals both suffered defeat. With Arsenal having already lost at Newcastle and Manchester City losing at Bournemouth, Liverpool also looked to be slipping up, trailing 1-0 at half-time to Ferdi Kadioglu’s fine strike. But Cody Gakpo’s left-wing cross went straight into the net for Liverpool’s equaliser, his third goal against Albion in four days after his Carabao Cup double. And Mohamed Salah curled a beauty into the far corner from the right side of the box to completely turn the game around three minutes later. It was an especially impressive comeback because Brighton had been playing so well – and keeping the home crowd quiet at times. Indeed, the visitors had looked set to move up to third in the table when Kadioglu’s shot from 16 yards flew in via the inside of the post in a first half they dominated. They could have led by more but Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved Georginio Rutter's effort - before the second-half comeback. Liverpool, who have won 13 of their 15 games under new manager Arne Slot, are two points above Manchester City.

They were better on the ball, more aggressive without the ball. Then, everything changed in the second half because it was completely the opposite. "Our attackers scored the goals but the main difference was we were better positioned and we had the ball a lot more. Without the ball they made problems for us but in the second half we just kept running." On going top of the Premier League: "It's more if you play against Arsenal in their stadium and you can get a draw away from home. Brighton are a very strong team as well, they have shown this season. If you face a team like this and are 1-0 down and can come back to a 2-1 win which in my opinion was deserved that gives me a lot of confidence. More than the position we are in." On the injury to Ibrahima Konate: "He had a lot of pain during half-time so then you have to make the change. The good thing is we have two very good replacements in Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah. I chose Joe today because Jarell was really tired and he proved I was right because he was outstanding in the second half." On Joe Gomez: "He had a very good performance without the ball. He constantly stepped into midfield to win the ball, winning the duels, and when he had to defend he did very well. Very good second half."

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Liverpool and Brighton.
Here are some of your comments:
Liverpool fans:Linda: Thought Brighton played really well in both games this week. Liverpool’s attitude and commitment to win these games was outstanding - lovely play and energy from all involved - playing for, and with, each other. Slot has made the transition of Klopp leaving and his arrival seamless. Looking forward to how this season goes. You just never know... Rhys: Slot has made Liverpool so resilient. Gone is the intensity in attack under Klopp and in its place is a calm composure. Even when on the back foot there is no panic. They just keep to the system and work from back to front. Pedro: Sloppy first half but showed some guts and determination in the second. I thought Gomez had a great game after coming on for Konate and was unlucky not to score. Salah amazing again... where's the contract offer? Liverpool back on top of the league. So far so good but the big test comes against Manchester City and Real Madrid. Richard: The first half was woeful. The second, much better. Why couldn't we muster up the urgency that we saw in the second half of the second half, earlier in the match? This sort of syndrome - allowing ourselves to fall behind and sit and wait until the crowd forces us to surge with intent and pressure - we should be doing from the first minute. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/02/22/91599981-0-image-a-45_1730586182483.jpg

Bayern Munich are considering a move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush, with Liverpool also interested in the 25-year-old Egypt international. Liverpool and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, is Real Madrid's favourite to reinforce their right-back position. Manchester United could rival Liverpool for Wolves' 23-year-old Algeria wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri. Liverpool have identified 20-year-old Bournemouth and Hungary defender Milos Kerkez as a candidate in their search for a new left-back.
