Liverpool and Paris St-Germain are considering a move for 21-year-old Chelsea and England defender Levi Colwill. Finally, the Reds and Manchester United are among the clubs interested in 19-year-old Barcelona B defender Mikayil Faye, but they will face competition from Lille, Monaco and Nice for the Senegal international.

The Reds boss accepted his side have not been potent enough of late but backs them to get back to winning ways. "I don't have a lot of qualities but I am always honest," he said. "If I don't feel great, they [my players] will realise it really quickly. That means after a game, people ask me [all sorts]. Give me time to think about it. "I feel great. Where we are is fantastic. Is it the last game or the last week [that defines his team] or is it the chance in front of us? "We can turn things around and still have an outstanding season. It is a good season but how you look at it will be the end. "I don't tell them things that I don't believe in. I am convinced we can win every game we have left, but we only have [focus on winning] the next one, of course." Asked about the Premier League title race, Klopp responded: "That is not in our hands. It is not about that. "Can Man City win every game they have left? That has happened quite frequently but they have a lot of games and difficult opponents as well. We don't think about them. "It's just can we get back to winning games again? We had a lot of chances and missed but it's better than not having chances at all. I am absolutely convinced [we can get back to winning ways."

'From doubters to believers' - do Liverpool fans now want more?..Alastair Telfer, BBC Sport journalist.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/d450/live/7c156800-fe3a-11ee-bb92-5d2292aec500.jpg When Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 his message was clear.Success would be fans believing his team could win the top prizes in football. Failure would be doubts over whether they have what it takes. His football and infectious personality quickly won the hearts of the fan base, but it was trophies that his legacy was built on. A crushing defeat by Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final fuelled the charge to glory in the competition a year later. The first one was the big one. A year later, he brought the Premier League back to Liverpool for the first time in 30 years. There were no more doubters, instead an expectation to win as many of the biggest trophies on offer. In 2022, the Reds defeated Chelsea in both domestic cups to complete the set for Klopp. However, the German fell just short in the Premier League title race again to Manchester City and lost another Champions League final to Real Madrid as a legacy-defining quadruple escaped his clutches. You wonder whether if he had achieved 'the impossible' might Klopp then have sailed off into the sunset. Disappointment and near misses is what fuelled Klopp to the Champions League and Premier League. Doing it again is seemingly an even harder task. His worst campaign in 2022-23 followed as the 56-year-old lost his ability to bounce back. The energy was seeping away and he announced this would be his final crack at climbing Everest once again. But now, in the space of a week, Liverpool's second quadruple charge – with the Europa League substituted for the Champions League – blew up in a matter of fixtures. The dream send-off was dissolving in front of a weathered Klopp after defeats by Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Atalanta. A nearly-man on so many occasions. The 2023-24 season appears to be falling into that category again, with only the League Cup as solace. The goal was to change fans from doubters to believers. The level of current disappointment shows his success in that. But when your first trophy is the Champions League, any doubt soon turns to expectation. Six games remain in the Premier League title race to end everything on a perfect high. Klopp achieved all he set out for, but do fans actually now want to win trophies rather than just believing they can?

Atalanta had won 3-0 at Anfield the week before so progressed with a 3-1 aggregate victory. "After the game we spoke quite positively about the rest of the season," he said. "We've got a month left and we need to give it everything. That's what we are going to do, we are going to throw everything at it and try to do all that we can. "We know it's not in our hands any more but we need to be as good as possible and just be in the best position we can to capitalise if teams do slip up." The defender was happy to be back starting in Bergamo, and is keen to help the Reds achieve further success in what is manager Jurgen Klopp's last campaign in charge, starting with Sunday's trip to Fulham. "It was special for me to be back out there and help the team win the game," he added. "We have got a very difficult week ahead of us - three away games we need to win. That's our aim now."

'We need everyone for the last push'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/5e45/live/f2d32c60-fe18-11ee-be79-030864442fb4.jpgLiverpool captain Virgil van Dijk says they are "really disappointed" to exit the Europa League but they have to pick themselves up quickly to re-focus on the Premier League title race. "Firstly credit to Atalanta," said Van Dijk. "Last week we were very poor and they had a good game. They deserved to go through because we made it far too difficult for ourselves. "Tonight was a good game and we showed great fight. It was an improvement but the reality is we are out and we have to very quickly recover and travel to London on Saturday. "We are disappointed to be out of the competition as we really wanted to win it." On the quick turnaround to playing Fulham on Sunday: "We won tonight and we kept a clean sheet, so there are so many more positives we can take. Yes, it is a bad feeling to be out, but we have to get back up. "We have been through difficult moments all together, so showing maturity and togetherness is the key to this. And professionalism to be ready for Sunday as that will also be a tough game. We all have a responsibility to be ready for it physically and mentally. "We need everyone now for the last push in the league. Hopefully our fans will be there because we need the fans now more than ever because anything is still possible." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/14fe/live/3d936df0-fdc9-11ee-97f7-e98b193ef1b8.jpg

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are among clubs interested in signing Real Madrid's 28-year-old France defender Ferland Mendy. Here are some of your answers:
Liverpool fans
Jack: Much better from Liverpool, who controlled the game throughout. Trent Alexander-Arnold brings a different class to the team. Eddie: It was good to see the team full of energy again. Totally deserved win and could have been bigger. Let's go together and see where we end up. Matt: Improved but still nowhere near where we should be. The goal we conceded was sloppy and Diaz, Nunez et al remain frustratingly profligate in front of goal. We've overachieved at the same time as better sides have stuttered, but we've failed to take full advantage. Got to play harder the last five games. Daniel: This was a much better and needed performance! Lately, things haven’t been so good, but to get the win and a very vital three points at a difficult ground like Craven Cottage is a sign to both our title rivals that we’re still here! Top notch performances from Trent, Ryan and Diogo, and some great goals to cap it off. Let’s keep this going! ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/4479/live/be0c9dd0-007b-11ef-916f-57688210e63c.jpg

Arne Slot leads way as potential Klopp replacement - is he the right man ?
Report by Mandeep Sanghera, BBC Sport journalist.Feyenoord's Arne Slot is a leading candidate to take over as Liverpool manager from Jurgen Klopp. Klopp announced in January he would leave Anfield at the end of the season and the Reds have been conducting extensive research around a number of candidates. The 45-year-old, who led Feyenoord to the 2022-23 Eredivisie title, has emerged as a candidate who fits Liverpool's criteria. Feyenoord have won the Dutch Cup this season and are second in the Eredivisie. The decision to appoint Slot has not been made but he has become a strong candidate to succeed Klopp. He ruled himself out of contention for the Tottenham Hotspur job last summer before Ange Postecoglu took over and is believed to be interesting Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Slot became Feyenoord head coach in December 2020 after leaving AZ Alkmaar, where he started his managerial career. The former midfielder spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands, making more than 100 appearances for both FC Zwolle and NAC Breda. Xabi Alonso was linked with the Anfield job but the former Reds midfielder announced in March he would stay on at Bayer Leverkusen, who have since become German champions. Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim was another name heavily linked but he is believed to have fallen out of the running. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7aee/live/705148d0-0188-11ef-ba3a-012d8dd63f5e.jpg

Jurgen Klopp praise for 'world-class' Trent Alexander-Arnold..i2-prod.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article28910354.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/1_Klopp-2.jpgLiverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes it will be good for Trent Alexander-Arnold to have a new manager and said the right-back will be a player "people talk about in 40 years". Klopp, who will leave the Reds at the end of the season, gave Alexander-Arnold his first-team debut in October 2016 shortly after the Anfield club's academy product turned 18. The 25-year-old has gone on to make more than 300 appearances for the Reds and won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup and Super Cup. Alexander-Arnold, who was made vice-captain by Klopp last summer, has also developed into a player who regularly moves into midfield for Liverpool because of his creative ability. "He has been a fantastic player from the first day," said Klopp prior to Liverpool's Merseyside derby against Everton on Wednesday. "An outstanding talent and he has turned into a world-class football player. "It is rare as a manager that you are part of a journey for such a long time. Trent has never had a different manager so it will be good for him to get new influences in the future. But he can be happy with the steps he has made." Alexander-Arnold scored with a terrific free-kick - another string to his bow - in Liverpool's 3-1 win at Fulham on Sunday as Klopp's team kept their Premier League title hopes very much alive. "I have nothing bad to say about Trent and his development," Klopp said. "He is one of these stories that not a lot of clubs can write, but he is someone people will talk about in 20, 30 and 40 years."

Ex-Liverpool and England legend John Barnes banned as company director over unpaid taxes..By Alan Smith, Football News Reporter.i2-prod.dailystar.co.uk/incoming/article31767489.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_John-Barnes-bankruptcy.jpgFormer Liverpool star John Barnes has been banned as a company director for three-and-a-half years after his media firm failed to pay £190,000 in VAT and corporation tax. The John Barnes Media Limited company went into liquidation in 2023 and an investigation by the Insolvency Service found that no tax was paid to HM Revenue and Customs between November 2018 and October 2020. During that time the company’s turnover was £441,798 and the company filing returns outlined what VAT payments should have been made. An investigation by the Insolvency Service, which began in September 2023, found that the company failed to pay £78839 in corporation tax between August 2018 and January 2020 and also failed to pay £115,272 in VAT between February 2019 and 2020. Mike Smith, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, said: “Individuals and businesses not paying the tax they should deprives the government of the funding it needs to provide vital public services and investment in areas such as schools, hospitals and roads. “John Barnes had a legal duty to ensure his company paid the correct amount of corporation tax and VAT. Instead, it paid no tax whatsoever between November 2018 and October 2020, despite receiving earnings of well over £400,000. “This disqualification should serve as a deterrent to other directors that if you do not pay your taxes while directing money elsewhere, you are at risk of being banned.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm very disappointed. We let it happen exactly the game that Everton wanted. Two goals from set pieces. They are really strong. We created a lot and didn't score. We were in a rush, not really clear enough. They scored the second goal with the routine they do all season. They had free kick after free kick, but we weren't good enough." On poor form: "I didn't expect that today but it happened. It's not the greatest moment we are in but we have to play so we have to fight through. We had that after the Fulham game but the two strikers who were in form, one is now injured and one is now hopefully a father. The game was alwasy interrupted by free kicks for them and they go long. It's tricky to defend." On losing: "It's not the first time that will happen in a football game against passionate, fighting opponents. Harvery [Elliott] came on and had a direct impact. In the end, it's just not good enough. We all know the situations were we pretty much shot at [Jordan] Pickford or shot over the goal. We had moments to turn it around but we didn't use them so it is really tricky." On title race: "They must come in a very bad moment. I don't know. I can only apologise for today to the people. We should have done better and we didn't and that's why we lost." Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Nothing more to say about this tonight, we conceded two goals from set pieces and we know it is one of their strengths. The second one is a routine they use all season. It makes no sense. I thought we found a way into the game and pushed them back, created massive chances and didn't use one of them. We conceded a second goal then and we lost momentum. We couldn't turn it around, it just wasn't good enough. That is the truth." On lack of goals: "I'm responsible for that and I know that, I feel that. I've never been able to put the ball over the line in my life. I'm not angry about that. It's crazy the amount of chances we have created in the last four games. There's room for improvement." On title race: "I don't know about Everton's achievement, I thought they would be safe after that but Sean Dyche knows them better. We need them to lose games and historically they don't do that. Arsenal didn't look very weak last night. We have to play better, that is it. We need points. We are not safe in the Champions League. Tottenham have played a lot of games less than us." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f066/live/a80a1470-028a-11ef-b45a-3fdbb8bd2ecc.jpg

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to Sky Sports: "Listen, very disappointed in so many ways. Everyone has to look in the mirror and look at their own performance and think if they gave everything. "Do they really want to win the league? If you play like this overall in the game and not win any challenges and give the referee an opportunity to give a free-kick away then we have no chance to win the title. "It is a tough one and obviously we have to do better against a side near the relegation it is time to focus. "Eventually we were not good enough and we all have to do much better. We have to do much better in every sense it is a tough one to take. "We are in a situation as we have bene consistent all season and players who have come in and contributed - we have to do much better." On being outplayed by Everton: "These games are always a big fight and something that we shouldn't have lost in my opinion, "But. we did now we have to pick ourselves up and be ready for an early kick-off Saturday." On title race: "If you play like today we have no chance to consider ourselves in the title race." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ed73/live/70c5c8c0-0289-11ef-b45a-3fdbb8bd2ecc.jpg

Should Liverpool cash in on Darwin Nunez ?ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/25/e218727e-0250-4e15-bf68-fa9a476d8db9.jpgCast your minds back to February and Darwin Nunez scoring an outrageous opener against Brentford, chipping goalkeeper Mark Flekken to put Liverpool a goal up in the first half. Former Reds striker Michael Owen tweeted his appreciation of the Uruguayan's effort but also offered this piece of advice: "Learning to slot, dink or go round the GK is a far more productive way to score and will increase his chances to 4 or 5 in 10, thus massively increasing his end return." Last night against Everton the simple option evaded Nunez once again and what should have been an equaliser for Liverpool in a crucial Merseyside derby turned out to be a blasted shot straight at keeper Jordan Pickford. Cue the 'you're just a less good Andy Carroll' chant from fans inside Goodison Park. If Nunez stays at Liverpool, will it be possible for the new manager/coaching staff to teach him the basics? Or is it a case of, you either have it, or you don't? Fernando Torres did sit in on Liverpool's training session the other week... ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/25/23e177a8-9489-495b-b912-2ee4eeabe778.jpgWhoever comes in after Jurgen Klopp - Arne Slot, probably - will have some big decisions to make as to the direction Liverpool take, especially up front, next season. Darwin Nunez has been frustratingly loved by the Anfield crowd so far since his £85m arrival from Benfica in 2022, but would now be the time to wave goodbye to the striker and look to cash in?

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7c4f/live/97c7ccb0-fbff-11ee-8369-47dc4454b972.jpgGet Involved - Is the title dream over for Liverpool ?Pete: Title dream over? Given last season and the revamping of our midfield, I'd have been happy with a top-4 finish, but when you factor in the injuries we've had and the fact that we've had to come from behind in far too many games this season, we are incredibly fortunate to be where we are right now. Every team has bad games in a season. True champions win more of those than they lose though, and right now it feels like we're not winning those games. It's been an incredible ride, thank you Jürgen. Mark: Liverpool have done amazing to be in the title race considering how many chances we have created/not scored as well as conceding so many sloppy goals all season. The two Man United games are what have cost us - confidence was lost and it’s so hard to get it back. You can't keep conceding the first goal and expect to win games. Jota being missing for large periods has really hurt us too. Dan: Back into the top four and a domestic trophy, I think all Liverpool fans would have taken that this time last year. We’ve done well to scrap and stay in the mix this season but looks like it will be a stretch too far. It won’t cloud what has been an incredible period under Klopp’s leadership. Darren: Liverpool lost this title the moment they had two key players leave in Firmino & Mane - two outstanding players who scored and assisted goals in abundance. These two were always going to be difficult to replace. Tim, Arsenal fan: Fascinating end to the season isn’t it? But once again the threat comes from Man City. Six games to go and a potential 91 points if they win all their games. However, such is the unpredictability of the PL this season that it will only take a slip up from City and for Arsenal or Liverpool to win their remaining games for all the predictions to be turned on their heads. It’s really all to close to call, but win our remaining four matches and we’re still in with a shout. City will drop points somewhere along the line. Mike: The title dream for Liverpool has been nothing more than mathematical for some time now. With the likes of United and Everton taking 7 points off them across 4 matches (and United knocking them out of the FA Cup) could winning the title be considered realistic? Steve: Liverpool look like a team that have hit the end of the road. Too many big players haven’t stepped up this season but they aren’t questioned because of who they are. We can’t have 5 players in our starting 11 that started the Champions League final in Kiev 6 years ago. We need to keep it fresh like City or United under Ferguson who aren’t scared of getting rid of big names for the benefit of the team. Curtis Jones shouldn’t be anywhere near the starting 11 for a team challenging for the title and Salah and Van Dijk couldn’t look any less interested. Shane: Well played Everton. Wembley was our send off for Klopp. Top four and a trophy was my realistic expectation for this transition season. We’ve exceeded that. We probably aren’t going to get the fairytale ending (though I’ll always keep the faith) but Klopp has given us so many incredible memories. He’s left the club in the best possible position: A lot of promising youth and new players to build on, a lot of trophies in the cabinet and so many unforgettable nights. I feel nothing but gratitude. I hoped we'd win the title for him more than anything else. What a guy. Sunit: Liverpool have only won one game against teams in the top 6 (Aston Villa). You need to win the big matches as well as against teams in the lower half of the table if you expect to be in with a shout of winning the league. Two draws against City and Man Utd, draw and a loss against Arsenal and a dubious loss against Spurs. Charlie: I understand Klopp is a good manager, but am I part of the minority when I think he's failed at Liverpool? He's been there the same time as Pep yet only won a fraction of the trophies. That squad he built should have won more and it's criminal he has only won one Premier League title in 9 years. He's a good manager.... but not a great! James: Liverpool's biggest mistake was saying no to £250 million for Mo Salah in the summer. Putting a few penalties away has spared him a lot of criticism. Can any fans truly say he has even come close to justifying that price tag this year?

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7c4f/live/97c7ccb0-fbff-11ee-8369-47dc4454b972.jpgWe asked for your views on Everton's 2-0 win over Liverpool on Wednesday.
Here are some of your answers:
Karen: Season over as far as I am concerned. Their passion has fizzled out. Always making it so difficult by conceding early goals. This team achieves such a high percentage of possession but too many chances are wasted. Too many drawn fixtures and too many losses against teams in games that should be a comfortable win. We have so much quality, but little substance. Claude: Well it is all over now. No chance Liverpool will win the league this season. Poor performance from the boys. There was no desire or focus in how to win. Poor performance in front of goal. Typical situation we have seen too often. Need an overhaul of the squad in the summer and a manager who won’t accept failure. Bring in [Ruben] Amorim. Matthew: Liverpool looked done when they scraped a win against Sheffield United. Over achieved with this squad. Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both need to go and better replacements found. Salah has been a club legend but time seems to have caught up with him. Nunez is just not good enough. Hemanth: The fatigue of going behind in almost every game throughout the season and then playing catch up has well and truly caught up with us. The defence will need to be strengthened during the summer. Will be a sad, sad way to give a send off to Klopp. Graeme: In 60 years of watching Liverpool, I cannot remember ever seeing them play with so little sparkle. They lost possession frequently. They seem indecisive in front of goal and Salah and Nunez seem to be really struggling up front. Something is seriously wrong in the camp. They seem disjointed and out of ideas. Ben: The title race is now a two-horse race. Yet again Liverpool promise, yet again they fall away. Klopp said he no longer has the energy to do the job - clearly neither do the players. A big clear out in summer is needed starting with Nunez and [Cody] Gakpo. It may be the end for Salah as well. New defenders will also be needed. One win in four is not acceptable. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/4ede/live/122d01c0-02cf-11ef-8369-47dc4454b972.jpg

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to TNT Sports: "Very disappointed, obviously. I think everyone can see that only one team wins the game, and that is us with the chances we created, with the possession we had, with all the things we did. It was a tough one at the end of a four games in 10 days period, but I think the players did really well. "We just conceded out of nothing and need a few more chances and kind of scrappy goals in the end to score twice. When we are 2-1 up we could control it, and still as I said in a lot of moments playing really well but the final situation we didn't take. That has been the story of the last four weeks." On if it is unlucky for a few attackers to be out of form: "It is what it is. You see the games. We are together and we go through that together, that is all. The boys want it, they fought hard, gave absolutely everything. For some of them it was definitely too hard today, and yes that's it." On the second half reaction: "Very pleased. It was very good and it was what we needed, the early goal helped obviously. We find chances always, you see in the first half we have a lot. "What I don't understand is that with each chance we miss everyone is there throwing arms, but a chance is the closest you can get to a goal so we have to be more positive there. Accept these kind of things happen and then do it again, and again and again. "We played well but didn't finish the situations off and now we have to acknowledge and carry on." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/4/27/1b4649b2-7bc7-4033-b5f6-020506a2fc3a.jpgMore from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to TNT Sports:
On his exchange with Mohamed Salah on the touchline: "No , but we spoke about it already in the dressing room. That's done.
On the title race: "I'm not in the mood to talk about that to be honest or look at that at all. We had to win here, we knew that, and we didn't, and now we have a little bit more time between now and the next game. We try to get the boys ready again and we will go again."
