If I speak there will be fire - Mo Salah on Klopp row..Jess Anderson, BBC Sport journalist. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/f209/live/20cfcdb0-04a1-11ef-a201-bb3b2caf3291.jpgLiverpool forward Mohamed Salah said if he speaks "there will be fire" after he argued with manager Jurgen Klopp on the touchline during the 2-2 Premier League draw at West Ham. Salah seemed to clash with Klopp as he prepared to come on as a 79th-minute substitute. Klopp said he would not disclose what the argument was about, but former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch said on TNT Sports that "it doesn't look good for the club". "Salah is a player who has started the majority of games for Liverpool and he will be fuming to be on the bench," Crouch said. "But no-one likes to see this between a manager and a key player." Salah seemed frustrated at something Klopp said to him as he was about to be brought on, and seemed to want to prolong the altercation before team-mates Darwin Nunez and Joe Gomez shepherded him away. The result left Liverpool all but out of the title race. They are third in the table and must rely on Arsenal and Manchester City dropping points to give them a glimmer of hope. In a video on social media, Salah, as he was walking through the media area after the match, said: "If I speak there will be fire." A reporter asked "Fire?" and Salah replied: "Yes, of course." Klopp said later: "We spoke about that in the dressing room and it's done for me." Klopp will leave at the end of the season and Liverpool this week agreed compensation worth up to £9.4m with Feyenoord for their manager Arne Slot. There has also been speculation over the future of Salah, who has scored 210 goals in 346 appearances in seven years at Liverpool but whose contract expires at the end of next season. He was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last season and those rumours have begun to circulate once again. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/04/27/18/84163583-13357169-Mohamed_Salah_and_Jurgen_Klopp_clashed_on_the_touchline_at_West_-a-17_1714239049467.jpgFormer Rangers striker Ally McCoist told TNT Sports: "He has been one of the best players we have seen in this league - nothing short of fantastic for Liverpool - but his form has dipped and it looks to me like he might be moving. "It might suit both parties - suit Salah to move on and Liverpool to reinvest the money they get for him." Salah has scored 24 goals in 41 games for Liverpool in all competitions this season. Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live that the argument was a "clash of egos". "You have two people who are equally important to the football club," he said. "The connection between the two has to be of respect, and respect how they have helped each other's careers. "With Mo Salah being pushed out a little bit, he doesn't like that."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/177E4/production/_130182269_salahindex.pngLiverpool are bracing themselves for bids of up to £150m from clubs in Saudi Arabia for 31-year-old Egypt forward Mohamed Salah. The Netherlands defender Lutsharel Geertruida, 23, could leave Feyenoord alongside manager Arne Slot to join Liverpool. He was spotted in the stands during the Reds' 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in Brighton's 20-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba. Leeds want to sign Liverpool's 27-year-old English defender Nat Phillips, who is currently on loan at Cardiff.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/122d/live/c996cf10-0632-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked Liverpool fans for their thoughts on Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah's touchline argument at West Ham on Saturday.
Here are some of the responses we received:
Dom: Club first, manager second and players last. Mo should remember his place if he doesn't want to stain his legacy as a modern club great. Colin: Salah has nobody to blame but himself for the position he is in. He has been out of form since his injury, and has had countless chances to score goals, but unfortunately not done so. But to be disrespectful to Jurgen Klopp is inexcusable. He will always be a legend at Liverpool, but is tarnishing his legacy. Murna: I’m not joining the band wagon that says Klopp has been great for Liverpool. Yes, Salah has been poor this season, but Klopp winning one title in nine years is not success. Klopp has lost titles after titles to Pep Guardiola and would laugh doing so. Pep would be disappointed Klopp, his good luck charm, is leaving! Trevor: Salah has been great for Liverpool since we signed him, an absolute gem. But if you are not on form and you get benched, why be angry with the manager? Salah has been half his usual self since he came back from injury - he should keep his mouth shut and accept what the manager says. Salah's time is up now. Liverpool will sell him in the summer. Tommy: Salah is well past his sell by date and must leave the club at the end of the season. He had absolutely no right to berate Klopp. Thanks, but it's time to go. BT: IMO Salah owes Klopp everything that he has become at Liverpool, a genuine legend, there are only a few games left, see them out, wish the manager all the best and pull in about £100m for the club to buy new players for the Slot era... Bill: Salah needs to look at his own performances since January, which have simply not been good enough. Without his goals he offers very little and the reason we have faded from the title race is the front three are not taking their chances and killing games off. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/9ef5/live/a2099350-0633-11ef-9165-0d1fa32fedf5.jpg

Here are some of your answers:
Liverpool fans
Seth: The team look out of energy, out of ideas, and out of any sort of cutting edge. There are too many big players missing in action, who are not standing up to be counted. Our inability to find the net and kill off games when we are in the ascendancy, coupled with a very leaky defence, meant the possible quadruple fizzled out meekly in a matter of weeks. Mike: Liverpool have lost the plot and will be lucky to finish third in the Premier League this season. They are far too inconsistent and Klopp announcing his departure was not the wisest of moves. That alone will have affected some of the player's thoughts, especially as to where they will stand when he leaves. Conor: I can't remember the last convincing win Liverpool had. It feels like they were only in a title race through sheer luck in matches. Klopp is maybe leaving at the right time because the club looks like it needs fresh energy at this point. Ian: It is such a shame that Klopp may be remembered by some for his last few months and not the great work he has done over the years. The spat with Salah appears to be more fuelled by him not starting and being substituted more often, but he must score to warrant starting! Since his injury, he has not been at his best. Maturity is required by all. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/1384/live/50497eb0-056e-11ef-b6af-d5a59696968c.jpg

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/8910/live/5677e9b0-3b6c-11ee-bde6-7ffba94c56ae.jpgBy Jordan Chamberlain, Fan writer.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/24f7/live/1dc0fa30-0619-11ef-ae19-4d49398a943b.jpgIt is quite a sad ending to a beautiful story. The best player of Jurgen Klopp's era fighting with his manager on the sideline as any hope of a farewell title faded away. Mo Salah should know better. This is a footballer who covers his mouth with his hand whenever he speaks to anyone after the game, acutely aware that the cameras are always on him. But he simply didn't care when first rejecting his manager's act of encouragement and then berating him before he was subbed on in the 2-2 draw with West Ham. Klopp tried to diffuse the situation after the game, telling the media that the matter was dealt with in the dressing room. Salah did not. "If I speak today, there will be fire," he said, which only added to speculation and fanned the flames he was supposedly putting out. Salah has no right to be angry at being benched. He has been in horrendous form and has looked a shadow of himself since the beginning of March. Obviously, he is a legend and one of the greatest players to ever represent the club. It would be great if both he and Klopp could put on a show of togetherness in the next fixture at home to Spurs, even if it was just for the fans. This season has fizzled out into a likely third-place finish when it promised so much. So we now need to at least celebrate Klopp's tenure without rubbish like this getting in the way.

' We haven't confirmed anything yet' - Slot on Liverpool move..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/74cd/live/722ecae0-0969-11ef-a01f-c1a4caf722f2.jpgProspective new Liverpool manager Arne Slot says "we haven't confirmed anything yet" as plans for a move to Anfield continue to take shape. The current Feyenoord boss was asked about his next steps during a news conference previewing his side's fixture against PEC Zwolle on Sunday. Liverpool are reported to have a compensation deal for Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season. "As long as we haven't confirmed anything yet I don't think it is honest to the club where I am working now or the club I could go to [Liverpool] to talk about that," Slot replied. "I'm more than willing to answer any questions if the official announcement will be made. I have all the confidence that that will happen, but until now it hasn't been confirmed officially yet."

Here are some of the responses we received:ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/b21e/live/6bb988f0-0872-11ef-b9d8-4f52aebe147d.jpgMark: Fabulous shirt. Great take on a classic European shirt. Jay: Not a fan of the kit for next season. What on earth is the pattern on the front? Pointless. Collar doesn’t suit the look either and don’t like the yellow mix with white. Virgil calls it retro but it’s not, just because it’s partly inspired by the 1984 team. A story just to get another £100 off fans. This one’s not for me or my kids. Paul: Love the new kit. I feel that the Liverpool kits have been boring the last few seasons but yeah big fan of this one. Anisah: Personally not my style, and very different, but it's nice to connect back to remember our past. Might take a while to get used to it and see it in action. Iain: For starters, could Nunez look less interested??? Reminds me of my school photo when I was 13 and in my 'Kevin & Perry' phase. Kit-wise, much like a cheese cake I am not a fan of deconstructing something that is already awesome. Rather we dumped Nike, their kit designs are woeful. Henry: Love the new kit bringing back the retro vibes from 1984 (one of my favourite seasons as a Liverpool fan). ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/8e09/live/b3dce9a0-0850-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpg

Early kick-offs are a 'crime' - Klopp..by Sean Kearns, BBC Sport journalist.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/9819/live/a9119dd0-0937-11ef-9e6c-099fc4d96d44.jpgIf there is one thing Jurgen Klopp will not miss about English football, it is the Premier League's early kick-off on a Saturday. The Liverpool boss has made no secret of his dislike for the 12.30pm kick-off time, and referred to it in 2018 as the "breakfast" slot, external. Klopp took aim at the Premier League and its broadcasters again on Friday, describing the scheduling as "absolutely insane" during his news conference. He joked: "I was actually waiting for Amnesty International to go to them. I would like to be part of that meeting when someone says ‘Liverpool 12:30’ and the whole room is bursting into laughter." On broadcaster TNT, which has the Saturday 12:30 slot, Klopp added: "I had a discussion only the other day with colleagues from our favourite TV channel which I will definitely not watch again, TNT..." Klopp described his views as "a little advice from an old man on the way out", and said Liverpool being asked to play "Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 12.30 is a crime". After the Merseyside defeat by Everton in April, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk complained that the Reds' next fixture against West Ham, external was given a lunchtime slot.

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked you if you agreed with Jurgen Klopp's complaints about Liverpool's fixture congestion, particularly regarding playing at 12:30 on a Saturday.
Here are some of your replies:Wes: You only have to look at the statistics to see that Liverpool have been given far too many 12:30 kick-offs, especially when you take into account that we have been in European competitions playing midweek most of the time. With further fixture congestion coming next season, we will only see more injuries and more English clubs exiting Europe in the early stages. Kevin: They are killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. If a team plays midweek, they should be exempt from playing in the early schedule. Benjamin: Klopp has a point regarding early kick-offs, but with clubs having big squads unless players are injured and the squad depth is not there, then I believe you can rotate players to play at 12:30. Alex: Everyone who enjoys the sport should agree that the fixture congestion is something which needs to be changed in the English game. Other top leagues seem to manage to get through a season without there being controversy on the subject. Broadcasters should be fitting around football, not football fitting around the broadcasters. Ronan: Yes he is right. The quality of the matches at 12:30 are below average and the crowds are quieter also. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/741/cpsprodpb/4b89/live/e9cc0d30-07af-11ef-b289-a77873562b61.jpg

FULL-TIME - Liverpool 4-2 Tottenham
ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/5/5/40bc4b9b-a629-4163-be19-eedcc9d66207.png Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "We are outstanding until we are not. It was a really good game. Tottenham can put pressure on Aston Villa again for the Champions League. In high performance things, you need a spark. I would say three points is enough and the boys thought that. Anfield was a special place today. We were 4-0 up, I made the changes and we lost organisation. Tottenham showed how good they could be. I was happy with the performance. "We were good in pretty much all areas offensively. The passes were good. So many things were good. We stayed calm. As long as they don't break the lines then it's fine, let them pass. I liked our game a lot. The goals were outstanding. "Mo [Salah] was outstanding, he played a really good game. His side with Harvey [Elliott] was good. I was pleased for him. None of the boys want to play not great, why would they? Mo showed what he is capable of. "You do it when you do it and if you miss it, then you miss it. If we win all three then we can achieve the fifth highest points tally of Liverpool. "I would be lying if I said I was at my highest emotion but I have another game. In two weeks time is another day. I have said it before, I love absolutely everything about this club. We will see how this game will be. Maybe it's pouring down and we cannot stay outside for long. There's a good chance it'll be raining, by the way." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/5/5/a139c5d3-d32f-4f34-86f1-b162e9a1a87b.jpg Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC MOTD: "It's a little bit of a mirror of the season. Really, really, really, good until we were really rubbish and then, we were okay again. It's that period, we concede in different ways. The moment you let them play, immediately, you see what they can do. If you don't let them play, then, you can hurt them and that is all the stuff. Being 4-0 up, making the changes we made, we had exactly the same again. Were days like today why you decided you don't need the stress anymore?: "Yes, it's a roller-coaster, but it is fine. It was a fantastic atmosphere. The weather was great, you don't have that all that often, so a really nice afternoon. The boys wanted the points and I love that. How much are looking forward to watching Harvey Elliott from afar?: "Oh yes. That's the typical thing. Did Harvey Elliott play enough this season? I'm not sure. That's up to me, it's a little bit of moments like this and he was outstanding, outstanding and he has to be as dominant as he was today. Fantastic player, what a goal. I love it. All good. I will watch that definitely and enjoy it. Report By Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Anfield.Tottenham's dramatic decline continued as their hopes of reaching the Premier League's top four faded even further after they were well beaten by Liverpool at Anfield. Aston Villa's defeat at Brighton left the door open for Spurs to make a late push for next season's Champions League but even a late comeback could not prevent a fourth successive defeat as Liverpool found form once more after their own recent slump. Mohamed Salah put his touchline bust-up with manager Jurgen Klopp at West Ham behind him to open the scoring with a far-post header from Cody Gakpo's cross after 16 minutes, Andy Robertson adding the second right on half-time when Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario could only push out the Egyptian's shot. Spurs lost discipline and Vicario had to separate team-mates Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal as they went off at half-time, with matters not improving for Ange Postecoglou's side as they were over-run after the break by a rampant Liverpool. Elsewhere, it was almost a dress rehearsal for Klopp's final game after a stellar nine-year reign when Wolves come to Anfield on the last day of the season. The German was serenaded throughout as The Kop went through his farewell songsheet, Klopp responding with trademark fist pumps in front of Liverpool's fans after a nervous finale ended with victory. Klopp was not whipping up the Kop for a final push for the Premier League title - that has gone after this season once held hopes of four trophies - but it certainly sets the scene for an emotional Anfield goodbye in a fortnight.

Here are some of your answers:
Liverpool fans
Ken: Elliott put in his most effective performance to date and deserved his applause. However, Liverpool need to learn to manage games better when dropping the tempo because it allows the opposition to believe they have a chance when they ought to have none. Nice to see Klopp's fist pumps in the sunshine though. Daniel: Dominant first half. Slightly different second half. But overall, a fantastic performance from the lads. I have no idea where this has been last month, but whatever Jurgen said before the game did the trick. What a game as well. Credit to Tottenham. Final 20 minutes and they were still in it. Fair dos. Villa and Wolves next. Let’s keep it up! Stuart: Rolling back the years! Fantastic to see the players playing with a smile on their faces! What a beautiful goal from Elliott. Bajcetic coming on was nice to see as well. Tracy: The Liverpool spark that was long awaited is back and great to see. Wonderful goals but a lack of concentration saw two goals let in. If only the Reds had done this earlier as the Premier League is sadly fading but at least next season we are in the Champions League again. Forever grateful to Jurgen for steering Liverpool in the right direction. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/e2ce/live/b2625980-0b6f-11ef-af53-8db728083a3d.jpg

The Netherlands centre-back has one year remaining on his contract. The Reds will have a new manager succeeding Jurgen Klopp - expected to be Feyenoord's Arne Slot - while Michael Edwards is returning as chief executive of football and Richard Hughes has been named sporting director. Van Dijk said: "The focus is now on the last two games and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that. "There is nothing for me to discuss because there is no news, I think the club is very much busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus. "Like I said I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well. It's a big part of my life already, and that is all I can say." The Netherlands centre-back continued: "We know other things are decided and Michael Edwards is coming back, Richard Hughes will be the sporting director, they are the only decisions that have been made. Other than that we will just wait and see but I have got full trust in the club to make that right decision [on a new manager]. "There will be a lot of changes happening and I wouldn't say scary is the right word but it is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now. So let's see."

Phil answered: Good question. Nunez, despite flashes of brilliance, has once again shown he is a very erratic player and in recent weeks even the so-called "chaos" that he caused - the big selling point among his supporters - has disappeared just when Liverpool needed him to deliver goals. For all that, Liverpool's fans have been incredibly supportive and patient. There is clearly talent and desire there, but will he ever become a reliable, composed finisher? I’m not so sure. It will be interesting to see what Slot does, but I suspect he will give Nunez a chance, although it would be interesting to see what would happen if Liverpool got a good offer from elsewhere because I think Jurgen Klopp, in particular, has been a huge supporter of Nunez. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/033d/live/d96a7ad0-f2c4-11ee-bf15-c7f04e38a603.png

Nunez has fuelled speculation of a summer exit from Liverpool by deleting all images of his time at Anfield from his Instagram page. Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Shakhtar Donetsk's £65m-rated Ukraine midfielder Georgiy Sudakov, 21, who is also being monitored by Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool. Arne Slot, who is expected to replace departing manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, could return to Feyenoord to sign Netherlands midfielder Mats Wieffer, 24, and Netherlands defender Lutsharel Geertruida, 23.

Ex-Reds sporting director Julian Ward gets new FSG role..by Mandeep Sanghera, BBC Sport journalist.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/ac62/live/73824580-0f12-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgFormer Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has been appointed to a new role by the club's Fenway Sports Group owners. Ward became the Anfield side's sporting director after Michael Edwards left the role in summer 2022 but, in a decision that surprised and disappointed the Reds, he departed the club at the end of the 2022-23 season. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced in January he would be leaving the Merseysiders at the end of this season after almost nine years in charge. Since then, Edwards has been been persuaded to return to the FSG fold as its chief executive of football. He has now brought back Ward, who will become FSG's technical director on 1st June in a role, like that of Edwards, which will include but not be limited to Liverpool as the organisation looks to add a second club to its portfolio. Edwards has already appointed a new Liverpool sporting director in Richard Hughes, who will begin his role when he leaves his position as Bournemouth technical director at the end of the campaign. The restructure at Liverpool is taking place as the Reds prepare for Klopp’s farewell to a role he has been in since October 2015 and with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot set to succeed the German.

I count maybe two or three times. "I'm not used to that. I'm not sure I'm great at it, to be honest. I wanted us to show character because I don't lack motivation because of negative possibilities but we all know if they win today - 3-0 or 4-0 - then everyone's going for us. "I saw a team with top character, most importantly. For the character we showed today we should have five points - but we got only one. "The place was rocking and that's really difficult. I loved the performance and the character we showed. Now it's a home game - which is slightly different - but today we had to show that and the boys did it with flying colours." On Jarell Quansah: "He played an exceptional game, trying to play against Ollie Watkins. You can ask that of a lot of centre-backs and they would struggle. He did extremely well. So often he saved our backside in decisive moments. Really nice development and he deserves that now." On the fans: "I have no doubt about our relationship. I appreciate that a lot. I can't yet put it really into words because I have to protect myself a little bit. The emotions will come out."

ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/2f7f/live/95709000-0915-11ef-bee9-6125e244a4cd.jpgWe asked for your views on Monday's 3-3 draw between Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Here are some of your answers.
Liverpool fans
Paul: Heavy metal football - exciting, intense, attractive for sure, but trophies is what counts and at the end of this nine-year love affair, one Premier League, one Champions League and an FA cup is the same as what City did last season. Defence is key and to concede 44 goals in a season is not acceptable. In the 1978-79 season we conceded 16 in 42 games! Will: Another unconvincing display. On top for long periods and then losing control by making wrong choices. Allison is too casual with the ball at his feet allowing opponents to pressurise him and rush poor passes out to defenders giving them problems. Making four subs at the same time - same as against Spurs - proved once again to break our rhythm. Not great. David: Liverpool played the last 20 minutes with the Euros and the beach in mind - scared of getting injured and not wanting to give 100% effort. Villa upped their game and Liverpool didn't want to respond. Once again, Salah played with very little interest or desire. Played like a man who knows his time is up at Liverpool. Roll on next season. Ray: Yet another game where Klopp's substitutions have made the team worse. It's a worrying trend that started during the United cup game. Both sides great going forward but woeful defensively and they're supposedly the third and fourth best teams in the league.
