The midfielder missed Saturday's win at Charlton Athletic after being forced off midway through the EFL Trophy clash with MK Dons at the Mem in midweek, and the Gas were fearing the worst for a summer signing who has become an integral part of Barton's squad. The manager said the early indications were he had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) when jarring his knee in the 4-1 win over the Dons, which could have led to up to a 12-month absence. However, further examinations have confirmed former Liverpool and Rangers prospect Rossiter has injured his meniscus. It is still a significant issue, but it is a much shorter road to recovery for the 25-year-old, who has thrived in the role of Rovers' midfield facilitator, selflessly putting in shifts week after week, stiffening the spine of Barton's team in his 17 League One appearances this term. "He’s looking at a couple of months," Barton said. "We thought it was going to be a lot nastier than that, the early signs weren’t great. "We thought it might have been an ACL, but fortunately, it’s not. It’s his meniscus, it’s still not great, but it’s 6-12 weeks rather than 6-12 months. He’s a big player for us and we missed him." Rossiter, who's made 20 appearances for Rovers in all competitions this season after signing from Fleetwood Town in the summer, adds to a sizeable group of players on the sidelines, with Trevor Clarke facing a couple of months out with a thigh injury. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2CA0/production/_126542411_shutterstock_editorial_13353379ax.jpgSam Finley (calf), Ryan Loft (muscle spasms) and Harry Anderson (groin) have also missed action in recent weeks, but Barton is not overly concerned, anticipating they will be back in action soon, and the players performing in their absence have done a fine job, too, with the Gas winning three straight games in all competitions. "Sam Finley was not playing (at Charlton), Harry Anderson was not here, Ryan Loft was not here, so we’ve got a few bodies to come back and they are not far away," he added. "Our squad keeps growing and we’re getting stronger, so let’s see what we can do this season."

Even more gutted it was done in the boycott cup where don't mean diddly sh!t unless you are the one of the finalists....then it's a privilege for club Wembley to rip you off with a £10 burger and a pint after you've been searched 200 times and win or lose it takes hour to get out the car park!?
JR has been consistent good all round performer for us recently, and to get injured in this abomination of a b@stardised trophy is utter filth.
I hope it's worth it.

The 25-year-old was gradually working his way back into contention, but he is on crutches once again after requiring a procedure to remove fluid from his knee earlier this week. There is hope the issue has finally been cleared up and Rossiter – who has been a stabilising presence in midfield and is being sorely missed – can play some part before the end of the season, but his spell on the sidelines is set to last several more weeks. “That was a bit of a blow,” Barton said of the news. “He had to have a procedure on Monday. He had a bit of fluid and he had to get it tidied up. “He had an operation in December, came back and had a setback and had to go back in and got an operation on it again. Then he had the fluid come up and he had to get it cleared out and tidied up. “We’re hoping that is everything sorted out for him now and he’s back on the road to recovery. They think there will be games for him (before the end of the season) but if there is another setback it will probably put him out for the season. “But he has still got a chance of playing a part in the season. How long is a piece of string at the moment? We have got to see in the next couple of weeks if it has cleared up.”

Midfielder banned for three games but Bristol Rovers will contest charge against defender..
Bristol Rovers midfielder Sam Finley has been hit with a three-game ban after accepting a charge of violent conduct.
The charge related to an incident in the 58th minute of Saturday's 2-0 defeat to MK Dons when a frustrated Finley fouled Sullay Kaikai to prevent a counter-attack after the Gas felt they were denied a clear free-kick on the edge of the box.
Finley was booked for the challenge by referee Carl Boyeson, but a retrospective review of the footage showed the 30-year-old's actions amounted to violent conduct, making contact with the MK Dons forward while he was on the floor.
Usually, FA rules stipulate a yellow card cannot be upgraded to a red after the game unless key evidence was not seen by the officials.
The suspension rules Finley – who has started almost 80 per cent of Rovers league games this season – out for Saturday's game at Lincoln City as well as the upcoming fixtures against Ipswich Town and Burton Albion.
"This incident was not seen by the match officials, but it was caught on video, and the midfielder admitted that his behaviour at the time constitutes violent conduct and accepted the standard penalty," an FA spokesman said.
Finley was not the only Rovers player to be charged in the wake of Saturday's defeat, with defender James Gibbons hit with two counts of improper conduct relating to incidents in the 23rd and 53rd minute respectively.
Gibbons, who has made 18 league appearances for the Gas, has until Monday to respond to the charge, meaning he is available for the game against Lincoln.
The club has confirmed it will contest the allegations, which have not yet been specified publicly by the FA.

ℹ️ Sam Finley has been suspended for three matches following an incident in the MK Dons game on Saturday. During the same game, James Gibbons has been charged with two counts of breaching FA rule E3, which the club will be appealing.

It’s been very quiet over Rossiter which in itself is probably bad news. I suspect if he was near fitness we would have heard. Without him we need someone to take his place. If he were fit and match fit it would be like a new signing. He is a quality player.

I assume injured players news is sometimes kept hush hush incase it puts the price up of a possible transfer in.Hope he's back soon. Then there's ST sales because as I posted,the Rossitter Finley duo was very very good. |

I've been weighing up the to-ing and fro-ing of the squad since last season, trying to assess whether we are currently weaker, stronger or about the same. (Bearing in mind that the transfer window remains open for a while yet...but it's good to have the squad in place for the start of pre-season training...which was last week!). My view: We've lost Gibson and Quansah; Coutts and Whelan; Bogarde and Anderson; Coburn. We've gained Wilson; Josh Grant (recovered); Thomas and Brown. Those are not like-for-like replacements. It could be argued that Wilson is an improvement on one of last year's loanee defenders, as he is more experienced and can marshal the defence better. But even if Rossiter does make a comeback, it looks as though we are currently at least a couple short of being ready for the season. By the way, if Ryan Jones has progressed from the promising performances he put in a couple of seasons ago, and steps up to the first team squad, he could count as one of the midfield replacements. |
