Tuesday 22nd ResultGroup C - Argentina 1 (Messi 10 pen) Saudi Arabia 2 (Al Shehri 48, Al Dawsari 53) WOW, WOW AND A FEW MOR WOW'S, What a game that was... A bold and brilliant Saudi Arabia pulled off one of the World Cup's biggest shocks as they came from behind to stun two-time winners Argentina in a fantastic Group C opener in Lusail. Ranked 51st in the world, Saudi Arabia could have been done and dusted in the first half as Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Argentina had three goals ruled out for offside. But Saudi Arabia flipped the game on its head in a stunning 10-minute period after half-time, Saleh Al-Shehri levelling with a low effort and Salem Al Dawsari firing them ahead to spark pandemonium in the stands. Having shown their ruthlessness at one end, the Green Falcons demonstrated a ruggedness at the other, holding a stellar Argentina front line at bay to secure only their fourth World Cup win in history and throw the group wide open. Lionel Scaloni's Argentina came into the tournament among the favourites, on the back of a 36-game unbeaten run that included winning the 2021 Copa America. They now have it all to do to keep alive their hopes of a first global triumph since 1986 and give Messi a fitting ending to what is very likely his World Cup swansong. They face Mexico on Saturday, while Saudi Arabia take on Poland. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/10D77/production/_127738986_gettyimages-1443528320.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/17825/production/_127739269_gettyimages-1244988280-1.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/3C04/production/_127746351_gettyimages-1443583009.jpg

No cheating, just playing a tough tackling game and winning all the 50/50's. They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring. They do not like it up 'em.

Breaking News: Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Manchester United with immediate effect..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/150EE/production/_127745268_tv080112965.jpgPortugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United with immediate effect. The decision follows a controversial interview in which the 37-year-old criticised the club and said he had "no respect" for manager Erik ten Hag. Both parties stated that Ronaldo's exit was "mutually agreed". "The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford," said a Manchester United statement. They wished "him and his family well for the future" and added "everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team's progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch". Ronaldo is with Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar and is set to captain them in their opening Group H game against Ghana on Thursday. "Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early," said a statement from the forward. "I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. "I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future."

World Cup 2022: England captain Harry Kane set to have scan on right ankle on Wednesday..England captain Harry Kane is set to have a scan on his right ankle before Friday's World Cup game with the United States. Kane, 29, suffered a blow early in the second half during Monday's 6-2 victory over Iran in Group B. He was eventually replaced by Callum Wilson and was later seen with light strapping on the ankle. Kane is set to have the scan on Wednesday to assess the extent of the problem. The Tottenham striker has scored 51 goals in 76 appearances for the Three Lions. England boss Gareth Southgate will hope Kane's scan results are positive as he prepares his team for the second game of the group stage. Midfielder James Maddison missed the Iran match as he recovers from a knee issue, while defender Harry Maguire came off feeling ill on Monday. Wilson did not train in a light session with the rest of the substitutes at England's Al Wakrah training base on Wednesday but is not considered a fitness doubt. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/C00C/production/_127746194_a5ad47eba5990ed058df690f938584951b9d57cf.jpg

Group C - Mexico 0 Poland 0 (Lewandowski missed pen 58)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/610C/production/_127744842_gettyimages-1443587503.jpgRobert Lewandowski had a penalty saved as Poland and Mexico played out a goalless World Cup draw at a fervent Stadium 974. Captain Lewandowski has never scored in the tournament and his wait continues after a tame effort was kept out by Mexico's veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. The 40,000-capacity venue was filled largely by raucous Mexico supporters and deafening cheers rung round when Lewandowski's shot stayed out. A forgettable first half saw Alexis Vega head narrowly wide and the only effort on target came when Jorge Sanchez's shot from the angle was pushed away by Wojciech Szczesny. Hirving Lozano's curling effort from range was straight at the Poland goalkeeper, before the game finally sparked into life in the second half. But both sides had to settle for a draw after Ochoa, 37, dived the right way to keep out Barcelona striker Lewandowski's penalty, awarded after the referee watched a replay on the pitchside monitor. Group D - Denmark 0 Tunisia 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/BDAA/production/_127745584_gettyimages-1443585736.jpgDenmark were held to a draw by Tunisia in their World Cup opener in a raucous atmosphere at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. Despite fielding many Premier League regulars, the much-fancied Danes were given a tough workout in Group D. Christian Eriksen, appearing for Denmark having suffered a cardiac arrest in their opening game of Euro 2020 only last summer, was mostly well shackled, although he did draw a fine save from Aymen Dahmen in the second half. Both sides had goals ruled out for offside, while Denmark's Andreas Cornelius somehow missed from a yard. There was 95th-minute drama when referee Cesar Ramos checked the pitchside monitor over a potential Denmark penalty for handball, only to stick with his original decision. Group D - France 4 (Giroud 32, 71, Rabiot 27, Mbappe 68) Australia 1 (Goodwin 9)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/4ADC/production/_127746191_e68748ed764a062c33266edf23e139f957209539.jpgDefending champions France delivered a powerful statement of intent by outclassing Australia as Olivier Giroud equalled Thierry Henry's all-time scoring record for the national team. France have lost a host of players in the build-up to the tournament, including key striker Karim Benzema, but made light of those setbacks with a thrilling attacking display after going behind. Craig Goodwin gave the Socceroos a shock early lead when he powered home a far-post finish after nine minutes but they then fell victim to France's firepower led by veteran Giroud and Kylian Mbappe. Adrien Rabiot's header put France level after 27 minutes then he set up Giroud - standing in for Ballon d'Or winner Benzema who sustained thigh injury in training - for a simple finish five minutes later following a brilliant Mbappe backheel. Mbappe was a threat throughout and got his first goal of this World Cup when he headed in Ousmane Dembele's cross after 68 minutes before turning creator three minutes later. He delivered the perfect cross for Giroud to score with a header, equalling Henry's record of 51 France goals in the process.

Group E - Germany 1 (Gundogan 33 pen) Japan 2 (Doan 75, Asano 83) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/101FD/production/_127754066_gettyimages-1245020747.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/31C9/production/_127754721_gettyimages-1443891277.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/14AB9/production/_127756648_japan-fans.jpgA stunning late comeback from Japan saw four-time winners Germany fall to a shock defeat in their opening World Cup game in Qatar. Germany dominated a frenetic match for large spells but failed to capitalise on their pressure - before Japan caused the Khalifa International Stadium to erupt into a mix of celebration and surprise. Substitute Takuma Asano squeezed in a thumping strike from a tight angle to make it 2-1 to Japan and ran over to the photographers in the corner of the stadium in sheer delight. There was a collective pause in the arena as the ball rolled down from the roof of the net before supporters realised it had gone in. Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan had given Germany the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, before Japan substitute Ritsu Doan equalised in the 75th minute. The equaliser came after a string of stunning saves at each end - Japan's Shuichi Gonda pulling off a double stop to deny Serge Gnabry and Jonas Hofmann, before Germany's Manuel Neuer got his fingertips to Junya Ito's effort. Germany, who finished bottom of their group in Russia in 2018, had missed several chances to extend their lead when the score was 1-0. They face stiff opposition in Group E with 2010 winners Spain to come on Sunday, then a final group game against Costa Rica. Before kick-off, Germany's players put their hands over their mouths during a team photo and in the stands a German government minister, Nancy Faeser, wore the OneLove armband. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/9D99/production/_127754304_germanyteamphotogetty.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/1643B/production/_127759119_germany.pngGroup F - Morocco 0 Croatia 0

Only four players from their final defeat by France in 2018 started this game and they lacked an attacking spark throughout, but came closest through Nikola Vlasic's toe-poked effort. Morocco were impressive, but failed to create clear-cut opportunities. Belgium play Canada in the other Group F game at 19:00 GMT on Wednesday. Croatia, who are 12th in Fifa's world rankings, dominated possession as expected, but they were unable to create opportunities or break down Morocco, who have only lost two of their past 40 games across three years. The best chance of a match that had only two shots on target from each side came in first-half stoppage time, when a left-wing cross was diverted towards goal by Vlasic, but the midfielder on loan at Torino from West Ham was denied by the right leg of Yassine Bounou, who spread himself to close down the angle. Morocco, who are ranked 22nd, came closest when Noussair Mazraoui followed in a deflected shot and saw a back-post header saved. Paris St-Germain full-back Achraf Hakimi also tested Dominik Livakovic, but the Croatia keeper dealt with his dipping, swerving 35-yard strike with ease. It was a game largely played in the middle third of the pitch, with both sides potentially wary of losing and damaging their chances of progressing to the knockout stages from a group that also contains Belgium and Canada. The goalless draw is the third of this World Cup, after Denmark's opener against Tunisia and Poland v Mexico on Tuesday. There was only one in the entire 2018 tournament in Russia.

Group E - Spain 7 (Olmo 11, Asensio 21, F Torres 31 pen, 54, Gavi 74, Soler 90, Morata 90+2) Costa Rica 0Gavi announced himself on the global stage with a brilliant volley as Spain produced a sparkling passing performance to outclass Costa Rica and start their World Cup in sensational style. Ferran Torres scored twice in what was a stroll from start to finish for the 2010 champions. But the pick of their seven goals was Gavi's outstanding volleyed finish, with the Barcelona teenager using the outside of his foot to steer a dropping ball home via the post and become the youngest World Cup goalscorer since Pele. This has been a tournament full of surprises, with Spain's Group E rivals Germany the latest victims with their late defeat by Japan earlier on Wednesday, but there was never a hint of another shock happening here. La Roja were completely dominant from the start, with Costa Rica unable to live with their pace, movement and precision when they came forward. The Euro 2020 semi-finalists went close twice in the first 10 minutes, with Dani Olmo and Marco Asensio both firing wide, but they did not have to wait long to take the lead. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/1867D/production/_127756999_gettyimages-1245026823-1.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/BA27/production/_127755674_p0djc1lg.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/CEF9/production/_127758925_gavicelebratesafterscoringforspainagainstcostarica.jpgGroup F - Belgium 1 (Batshuayi 44) Canada 0Belgium laboured to victory in their opening World Cup game as they were pushed all the way by an outstanding effort from Canada. Canada dominated large portions of this Group F game but were wasteful in front of goal, particularly when Alphonso Davies saw a first-half penalty saved by Belgium keeper Thibaut Courtois. Courtois also had to save well from Alistair Johnston, but Canada were undone against the run of play on the stroke of half-time when Michy Batshuayi collected Toby Alderweireld's long ball and fired a powerful left-foot finish past Milan Borjan. Jonathan David wasted a glorious headed chance to draw Canada level and Courtois also saved from Cyle Larin. Canada were also left nursing a sense of injustice after they had two presentable penalty appeals ignored in the first half. Canada continued to push forward in the second half but it was Roberto Martinez's side who closed out the win, despite a performance that made a mockery of their status as second in the world rankings. "Canada deserved to be better than us in the way they played," Martinez told Match of the Day. "It's a win and we need to play better and to grow. "This tournament is going to make you develop and grow as the tournament goes on. If you do that by winning games, it's an incredible advantage. "Today we didn't win by our normal talent and quality on the ball, but you don't win in the World Cup if you don't do the other side of the game." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/124D/production/_127758640_davies.jpgAlphonso Davies saw his penalty saved by Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the first half ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/D34F/production/_127759045_alrayyanqatar-november23-michybatshuayi.jpg

World Cup 2022: England captain Harry Kane fit to play against US - Gareth Southgate..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/4AFB/production/_127759191_harrykane.jpgThe striker injured his ankle early in the second half of Monday's opening 6-2 victory over Iran in Group B and was later substituted. "Harry is fine. He has worked slightly separately from the group but all good for Friday night," said Southgate. "He had a scan [on Wednesday] to make sure everything is fine." Tottenham's Kane has scored 51 goals in 76 appearances for the Three Lions, two behind Wayne Rooney's record of 53. Meanwhile, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is feeling "much better" after also being substituted on Monday. "He was feeling ill and that was affecting his vision," Southgate told BBC Sport. "You worry about concussion in that instant, but we were going back through all the footage and there is nothing, so he is in a good area." Defender Kyle Walker has stepped up his training and is available to play on Friday for what would be his first match since groin surgery in October. Forward Callum Wilson did not train in a light session with the rest of the substitutes at England's Al Wakrah training base on Wednesday, but is not considered a fitness doubt. Midfielder James Maddison, who missed the Iran match because of a knee issue, also did not train. England will qualify for the last 16 if they beat the United States and Southgate added: "We would like to get qualification done as soon as possible. "The first objective is to get out of the group. "We would love to do that on Friday, but the game won't be anything like Monday. "We have to make sure we are back to the psychological place we were at the start because the States will be an athletic team, press really well, be organised, well coached. "They have quite a few players we know from the Premier League and they showed in the first half against Wales the best side of themselves. "Monday was a great start and it is that reset to be ready for Friday."

World Cup 2022: Japan's fans clean up stadium after win over Germany..The magnitude of their win over Germany could have seen them go off into the night in celebration but Japan's fans demonstrated that the best manners and habits are ingrained, no matter the situation. Come full-time, the stands of sporting stadia are usually littered with used food trays and wrappers and empty drinks cups, left behind for someone else to clean up. But not when the Samurai Blue are in town. Their players, fresh from a 2-1 victory over the four-time champions in their World Cup opener, had barely left the pitch when the Japanese in the crowd pressed pause on the party to tidy up after themselves at Khalifa International Stadium in Qatar. They did the same at the World Cup in Russia four years ago, most notably after a 3-2 defeat by Belgium in the last 16, and again in the 2022 tournament opener between hosts Qatar and Ecuador on Sunday - a match their team wasn't involved in. In Japan, cleanliness is a part of the culture and is drilled into its people from early childhood. In 2018, Scott North, a professor of sociology at Osaka University, told the BBC that tidying up is a way Japanese people "demonstrate pride in their way of life". "Cleaning up after football matches is an extension of basic behaviours that are taught in school, where the children clean their school classrooms and hallways," he said. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/6707/production/_127757362_whatsubject.jpg

Obviously not very happy with the result! At this rate I might have to end up supporting England. But what a wonderful way for the Japanese supporters to behave.

Thursday 24th November Results..
Group G - Switzerland 1 (Embolo 48) Cameroon 0Switzerland's Breel Embolo scored the only goal against Cameroon - the country of his birth - in a hard-fought World Cup Group G opener. Embolo refused to celebrate when he finished off a slick Swiss attack shortly after half-time. The Indomitable Lions were unfortunate to lose after an enterprising display at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar. Victory was vital for Switzerland, as both sides still have to face Brazil in the group. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/D95E/production/_127764655_76a5a282fb10e94ed354d4c9a9613b64a1ab3fec.jpgGroup G - Brazil 2 (Richarlison 62, 73) Serbia 0Richarlison lit up the World Cup with a moment of Brazilian magic as the tournament favourites overcame Serbia's stubborn resistance to open their campaign with an impressive victory. Brazil had to play a patient game to break down an organised Serbia rearguard but forced the breakthrough after 62 minutes when Tottenham striker Richarlison turned home a close-range finish after Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved Vinicius Junior's effort. Richarlison's crowning moment came 11 minutes later, at first mis-controlling a pass from Vinicius but readjusting brilliantly to take the aerial route and fire home an acrobatic right-foot finish. It was no more than Brazil - backed by the massed ranks of their yellow-clad fans - deserved as they dominated throughout, with Alex Sandro and Casemiro hitting the woodwork and Milinkovic-Savic also saving superbly from Fred. Brazil's performance made ominous viewing for their rivals, as did the sight of Gabriel Jesus, Antony and Gabriel Martinelli coming off the bench in a powerful show of squad strength, although there was the worrying sight of Neymar going off after taking a knock. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/11CDF/production/_127772927_gettyimages-1245063166.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/14075/production/_127773028_gettyimages-1444255193.jpgGroup H - Uruguay 0 South Korea 0
Nothing could separate Uruguay and South Korea in their World Cup opener in Group H despite plenty of attacking quality on show in Qatar. In front of a vibrant crowd at the Education City Stadium, the South Koreans frustrated Uruguay but did not create many clear-cut opportunities. Their best fell to Hwang Ui-jo, who fired over the bar in the first half, before Uruguay captain Diego Godin headed a corner against the post. Hwang stood with his head in hands afterwards, while team-mates fell to their knees in disbelief, all in front of a group of South Korean fans behind the goal, who were in fine voice throughout. South Korea had controlled most of the first half but Uruguay began to dominate as the game wore on and they almost won it in the final minute of normal time when Federico Valverde's long-range effort crashed off the post. There was one last chance for Tottenham striker Son Heung-min - South Korea's star man - but he dragged his shot wide, much to the relief of the Uruguayan supporters. Group H - Portugal 3 (Ronaldo 65 pen, Felix 78, Leao 80) Ghana 2 (A.Ayew 73, Bukari 89)Cristiano Ronaldo became the first man to score at five Fifa World Cups as Portugal began their campaign with a thrilling victory over Ghana. Ronaldo was playing for the first time since his controversial television interview last week and his subsequent release by Manchester United following the comments. And the 37-year-old scored the opening goal from the penalty spot, hammering in after being tripped in the box by Ghana's Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu. Captain Ronaldo had a couple of chances early on but a low shot was smothered by Lawrence Ati-Zigi and he also headed wide at the far post. The forward had a goal disallowed for a push on Alexander Djiku while at the other end, Ghana did not have a single shot in the opening period. The Africans improved in the second period as Mohammed Kudus drilled narrowly wide of the far post and got their reward when Andre Ayew equalised from close range. But Portugal responded with two goals in two minutes to seal the points - Joao Felix converting a delightfully clipped finish and substitute Rafael Leao coolly stroking in just seconds after coming on. Osman Bukhari headed in a late consolation for Ghana and there could have been real drama in the ninth minute of stoppage time. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa put the ball down, seemingly unaware Inaki Williams was behind him, but after racing to intercept the ball, the Ghana forward slipped at the crucial moment and a scuffed shot was cleared off the line. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/1F5B/production/_127772080_microsoftteams-image-18.png

Leicester midfielder James Maddison has not trained this week, but captain Harry Kane is fit to play after sustaining a minor ankle injury against Iran. Maguire is also fit after feeling unwell in the second half on Sunday, while Kyle Walker could make his first appearance since groin surgery at the beginning of October. The United States have not reported any injury concerns. "If we win we qualify and the first objective is to qualify from the group," added Southgate. "We have three matches to do so and if it takes all three we have to be ready for that. "Have we ever beaten the States in a major tournament? No, so we have to try to make history. We're good at talking highly of ourselves as a nation with no evidence so we need to perform well. "We will play a highly-motivated team and have huge respect for the opponents. We know their players and the quality and athleticism they have so we have to be at our best - I don't think we will be underestimating USA." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B91A/production/_127768374_gettyimages-1443297899.jpg

Friday 25th November Result..
Group B - Wales 0 (Hennessey sent of 86) Iran 2 (Cheshmi 90'+8, Rezaeian 90'+11)WOW, WOW AND WOW, What a game that was, i was thinking when the 99th minute came around, that was the best 0-0 i have seen for a long time. Wales' first World Cup for 64 years looks set to end at the first hurdle after a heartbreaking - but deserved - last-ditch defeat by Iran in Qatar. Substitute Rouzbeh Cheshmi struck from 20 yards deep into stoppage time, before Ramin Rezaeian finished off a counter-attack to seal victory for a revitalised Iran side, who have renewed hope of reaching the knockout stages for the first time in their history. As they did in their opening draw with the United States, Wales started poorly and had the video assistant referee (VAR) to thank for disallowing a goal from Iran's Ali Gholizadeh for offside. In one of the most highly charged atmospheres of this World Cup, Iran's players sang their national anthem this time - having declined to do so before their opening loss to England in an apparent show of support for anti-government protests in their country - but their own fans booed the anthem and some could be seen crying in the stands. Roared on by the fervent and almost entirely Iranian crowd, Carlos Queiroz's side were extremely unlucky not to score early in the second half as Sardar Azmoun and Gholizadeh both struck the post within the space of a few seconds. Wales were utterly ragged and, as they pushed forward in search of the late winning goal they desperately needed, a long ball over the top left the defence exposed and their onrushing goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off - after a VAR check - for a reckless challenge on Mehdi Taremi. That set the seal on Wales' fate for this match and, in all likelihood, their hopes of reaching the second round. While Robert Page's men were just as disjointed as they were against the USA, Iran were unrecognisable from the team thrashed 6-2 by England in their first match and fully deserved this win which breathes new life into their ambitions of progressing to the last 16. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A665/production/_127779524_gettyimages-1444431432.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/86C1/production/_127779443_gettyimages-1444432989.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/480/cpsprodpb/1005C/production/_127782656_gettyimages-1444410004.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/12CBB/production/_127778967_gettyimages-1444430149.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/ECD4/production/_127782606_gettyimages-1444431396.jpg

Wales lose 2-0 to Iran. Astonishing result. Only 2-0?? ..after all the Welsh hype of "when we get out of the group" ....seems they are just not good enough... Gareth Bale.. post match interview.."the sending off changed the game completely" ... well from being outplayed basically to finally getting beaten... he is right!!! ... perhaps he will now wander off into the night

Thing is if we beat the USA tonight, we qualify with 6 points, 2nd place is still open to the other 3 teams with a win in their last matches.
Funny old game football...who once made a living out of saying that..?
It ain't over until the ref blows the whistle in the 136th minute is it...

Friday 25th November Result..
Group A - Qatar 1 (Muntari 78) Senegal 3 (Dia 41, Diedhiou 48, Dieng 84)Qatar are on the verge of a group-stage exit in their home World Cup after Senegal condemned them to a second straight loss. The Middle East side battled valiantly but will be out with a game to spare if the Netherlands avoid defeat against Ecuador later on Friday (16:00 GMT kick-off). But African champions Senegal are up and running. Boulaye Dia broke the deadlock four minutes before half-time, slamming home to punish Boualem Khoukhi's miscued clearance. Looking to hit back in the second period, Qatar's hopes were dashed when former Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou rose to flick in a glorious header just three minutes after the break. Watford's Ismaila Sarr had an early chance on his 50th cap but struck into the side netting, while Idrissa Gueye of Everton's rasping drive went narrowly wide. Qatar felt they should have had a first-half penalty when Akram Afif was bundled over in the box by Sarr, but referee Antonio Lahoz pointed only for a goal-kick, much to the anger of the home supporters. Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy made stunning reflex saves to deny Almoez Ali and Ismail Mohamad, but he could do nothing about Mohammed Muntari's powerful header. Qatar were searching for the equaliser, but Bamba Dieng stroked in to deflate the home following and leave their team bottom of the group without a point after two games played. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/10642/production/_127783176_senegal-index.jpg
