Charlie gets heckled during a ceremony in Oz. An independent Aboriginal politician ,Lydia Thorpe, screamed at the King for about a minute. "You are not my King" "This is not your land" Etc.

She wants rid of the Monarchy in Australia. Don't we all. Well, some of us๐๐ No, just you. ๐ Perhaps Australia (and others) should have a directly elected Governor General. A president in all but name whilst retaining the links. Should satisfy most.

Apparently Lydia Thorpe was photographed a while ago, wearing a headband that ridiculed the Jewish victims of the October 7th massacre.

They don't have magical powers, and as has been proven in recent years in Andrews case can be evil sickos. The only thing that I like about us have a monarchy and Royal family is the pomp and ceremony that goes along with it. No one does it better than us, and it put us at the top of the food chain in that regard. Question is as a tourist attraction do they provide more money to this country then they take out? It's clear that it's the latter.

I was brought up by grandparents mostly, who had Victorian era parents and my grandmother was from a generation that everyone was supposed to know their place. She cleaned a big house for the Dowager Duchess of Westminster and when I took my gran to her garden parties my gran insisted I call her 'Your Grace' etc Over the years the ever widening gap between their luxuries, escaping taxes, obedience to whoever is in power, and the growing expense when the country has so many in poverty seems iniquitous. I don't envy anyone, but I don't see why some should starve while others live in the lap of luxury due to pure chance and by the grace of the tax system which they pay nothing into. Someone was talking about responsibility the other day, and each of us recognising our own responsibilities. They like other billionaires could choose to do so much good, and not just figure head charity work. With regard to Australia, Canada and other nations, they should be allowed to be independent with the figurehead of their choice.

To be honest, one side of my family from Gloucestershire, were involved in Berkeley castle hospitality and expressed the same years ago.

I don't know Ice,just making the point they are all free to leave if they choose to do so. I kind of agree with you. Our 'Royal family ' dictating upon Canada, Australia, new Zealand etc... does not make sense. 'Our' includes them too, we share them, constitutionally and historically at least. They don't dictate either, it's delegated to the Governor General. There are pros and cons to all flavours of Head of State, the current set up is probably the least invasive.
