Not sure what you are trying to prove. It's a phrase attributed to Ludendorff who was a card carrying Nazi. Why the faux outrage over me using it? He is having a bit of day. A Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday kind of day.

He is having a bit of day. A Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday kind of day. I know. To be honest, I have no idea how old he is, but I am starting to feel sorry for him. It does sound ages related, in the same way that Baldrick so beautifully slapped me down (I am 72) on education. The difference is I admired him for doing that (because he was spot on and it made me think). Trymer appears to be living in some Victorian never never land.

"Care homes are preparing for a looming staffing crisis following an 81 per cent plunge in visas issued to overseas workers, with some already forced to shut their doors. The number of health and care worker visas granted fell from 121,290 to 89,095 in the year to June 2024 â a decline of more than a quarter, according to the Home Office. A senior Home Office source told i the Government would not be relaxing rules around health and care visas and would continue with tougher controls introduced by the Conservatives in their immigration crackdown. Ms Ahmed said she was worried more homes would shut because of the visa changes, saying there are not enough Britons who want to work in the sector and meet the growing demand for care from an ageing population. She said it is common for care home staff to be paid minimum wage because of limited funding from local authorities, which pay for social care using a combination of funding sources including central government grants and council tax. Snip About half of his staff are migrant workers. He said they âreally struggledâ to find staff until they started hiring from abroad. Many of his staff members have come from India and African countries. In 2022 the Conservative government relaxed visa restrictions affecting care workers, which made it easier for operators like Mr Sehgal to fill vacancies. Without migrant workers, he said occupancy levels had plunged to only 67 per cent of beds, and are now at 93 per cent. âThat was at a time when the hospitals were crying out to discharge people,â he said. âWe have job vacancies, as we do all the time in the care sector, as everybody does really, and we advertise them,â he said. âTo be quite honest, we do not get a single local application come through. âIf we do get any domestic candidates, generally, they either donât show for interview, donât respond any further or, in the last three cases, theyâve lasted probably about 72 hours before going off sick. âWe just donât get the people coming through. Mr Sehgal said he has often employed the spouses of his overseas workers, who also pay taxes and contribute to the economy. âThey donât come here to sit on their backsides and think, âoh, what benefits can I claimâ,â he said. âThey canât claim any benefits.â inews.co.uk/news/care-homes-close-visa-crackdown-staff-crisis-3239808

Some numbers here and hopefully a sense of perspective. The main takeaway is that numbers are coming down but that will have an impact on the care sector and universities, which links into my post above and my previous comments here. "Contrary to what the Home Office press release today suggests, small boat crossings to the UK have not fallen since last year - at least not in any sense that any normal person would understand it. Actually, the cumulative number of people coming across the Channel to the UK this year is running at a higher rate than this time last year - about 18% higher as of the end of June and about 11% higher as of last week. So how, you might be wondering, can the Home Office possibly claim that small boats are down 29% on last year? The short answer is that what they're talking about is more distant history. Their figures are looking not at the cumulative number of people coming in so far this year, but at the total number that came in in the 12 months to the end of June. And it so happens that there was a lull in crossings last autumn and winter, partly down to bad weather. But here's what matters more than any of this. The sheer number of small boats migrants is a tiny, tiny sliver of the migration total in this country. Just over 30,000 people came over this way in the 12 months to June. Clearly, that's not nothing - and it's a total which is far higher than some years ago. But it's piddling in comparison with the overall migration total of around 1.3 million. It's tiny in comparison with the 547,000 people coming over to work, or the 530,000 coming over in that period to study. These are the real story when it comes to migration: hundreds of thousands of students and workers, mostly from outside the EU, coming to the UK in almost unprecedented numbers. But the big news is that those numbers are now starting to come down. The number both of skilled workers (especially health workers) and masters students has fallen sharply. They're still well above their pre-Brexit levels but the direction of travel has at least changed. The question now is what that means for the labour force. Can domestic workers fill the gap left by immigrant health workers? Will universities - already strapped for funding - be able to survive the diminution of a lucrative revenue stream (those foreign students)?" news.sky.com/story/despite-home-office-claims-small-boat-crossings-havent-fallen-but-look-elsewhere-for-real-immigration-story-13201208

Good news, although I suspect the emotional scars will take longer to heal, if ever. Accused will have plea trial in September and actual trial in January. www.bbc.com/news/articles/cr40q09pp5lo

Of course you knew that he was a Nazi thats why you mentioned his book to prove that it wasnt a Nazi phrase. I have a bit of an interest in military history so perhaps you can tell me these other wars that are referred to as 'total war' ? I seemed upset yesterday ? how do you come to that conclusion ? Not sure what you are trying to prove. It's a phrase attributed to Ludendorff who was a card carrying Nazi. Why the faux outrage over me using it? Not outraged or upset just amused and looking forward to you telling me where i can read about all these other 'total wars' .

As for the other examples, I've seen it used to describe the First World War, the Franco-Prussian War, the Napoleonic Wars (by authors writing in hindsight although the Franco Prussian War had a very similar phrase at the time) and scenarios regarding a hypothetical Third World War.

"A number of people have reportedly been killed and injured in an apparent knife attack at a German festival. The attack took place at a festival in the western city of Solingen, German news agencies and the newspaper Bild have reported. Passers-by were stabbed at random, according to Bild. The newspaper added the attacker had not yet been caught. It's not clear how many people have died in the attack. It's reported it took place at around 9.45pm local time. The dpa news agency cited police sources, who said the weapon used in the attack was a knife. Local police said they were not yet able to comment." news.sky.com/story/solingen-stabbing-people-killed-in-apparent-knife-attack-at-german-festival-reports-13201941
