West Ham United survived a late scare as they came from behind to beat Danish side Silkeborg IF and maintain their perfect record in Group B of the Europa Conference League.

The visitors dominated in Demark but fell behind in the fifth minute when Kasper Kusk netted a first-time finish.

The Hammers levelled eight minutes later through a Manuel Lanzini penalty after Maxwel Cornet was fouled in the box.

Gianluca Scamacca completed the turnaround in the 25th minute before a Craig Dawson header had West Ham 3-1 up shortly before half-time.

Silkeborg set up a tense finale with 15 minutes remaining when Soren Tengstedt netted on the rebound from Tonni Adamsen's shot after Jarrod Bowen had squandered possession.

But the Premier League side held on to deny the hosts a first point in the group stage of a European competition.

The result means West Ham stay top of Group B, with Romanian side FCSB drawing 0-0 with Belgium outfit Anderlecht in the group's other fixture.

RSC Anderlecht 0 West Ham United 1 (Scamacca 79)


Substitute Gianluca Scamacca scored the winner against Anderlecht as West Ham recorded a third straight victory in the Europa Conference League.

Scamacca guided it into the bottom corner with a first-time strike on the turn, late in the second half.

West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was forced to make an excellent save to block Anderlecht striker Fabio Silva's header shortly afterwards.

The Hammers sit top of Group B with Anderlecht five points behind.

David Moyes' side controlled large spells of possession and had numerous chances at Lotto Park in Brussels.

There were nine changes from the side that beat Wolves in the Premier League in their last outing, with Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma among those given an opportunity.

Benrahma had the best chances in the first half when he had a shot blocked, before he was teed up by Jarrod Bowen, only to slice it over the bar from close range with the goal gaping.

Antonio and Bowen also came close, while on-loan Wolves striker Silva had an effort blocked in the box by his own team-mate Francis Amuzu for Anderlecht.

Goalkeeper Areola was called into action to deny Yari Verschaeren from long-range but was otherwise relatively untested until he pulled off that terrific save to deny Silva.

Moyes made changes with around 20 minutes remaining as West Ham searched for the winner - captain Declan Rice, midfielder Lucas Paqueta and striker Scamacca all came on.

The substitutions paid off as all three were involved in the goal as Paqueta set-up Scamacca to finish a silky team move.

Hearts were outclassed by slick Fiorentina in a Europa Conference League defeat at Tynecastle that deals a severe blow to their knockout hopes.

West Ham manager David Moyes praised Jarrod Bowen after he equalled the Hammers' all-time European goalscoring record in the 2-1 win over Anderlecht.

Bowen's latest strike took him level with club greats Johnny Byrne and David Cross on six European goals as West Ham guaranteed qualification for the knockout stage of the Europa Conference League with two games to spare.

First-half goals from Said Benrahma and Bowen were enough to make it four wins from four in Group B despite Sebastiano Esposito's late penalty.

David Moyes' side still need a point from their final two games to confirm their direct passage to the last 16.

"It certainly is a feather in his cap," Moyes said of England international Bowen's achievement. "Maybe there are more European games these days with the group stages, but it's still a good thing to have and hopefully he'll score a lot more.

"He's much closer to what he was last year and he looks a threat every time he plays."

West Ham were too good for their visitors throughout, with Wolves loanee Fabio Silva barely making an impact for Anderlecht up front.

Benrahma's well-taken free-kick gave the hosts the lead before Bowen drove home his third European goal of the campaign.

The final 15 minutes witnessed unpleasant scenes as rival supporters threw seats at each other, prompting the police to intervene to keep them apart.

Hearts were thrashed by a rampant Fiorentina to leave their Europa Conference League progression hopes hanging in the balance.

Anderlecht have been fined 50,000 euros (£43,900) and banned from selling tickets to their travelling fans for two European matches following crowd trouble at West Ham last week.

European governing body Uefa imposed the sanctions for the "lighting of fireworks, throwing of objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances".

One supporter was sentenced to eight weeks in prison following the ugly scenes during the Europa Conference League match at London Stadium, for which the Belgian club has apologised.

The second match of the ban is suspended for two years.

Seats were thrown and flares set off by some Anderlecht supporters during West Ham's 2-1 victory on 13 October. Two police officers needed hospital treatment, one for a suspected broken wrist and the other for a head injury. Two other officers were struck on the head by missiles.

Uefa has ordered Anderlecht to pay for damage to 86 seats and the stadium toilets in the away section.

West Ham sealed a place in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League after defeating Silkeborg to maintain their 100% winning record in Europe this season.

Manuel Lanzini's penalty, after Michail Antonio had been brought down by keeper Nicolai Larsen, ensured the Hammers qualified with one game to spare.

Last season's Europa League semi-finalists dominated with Algeria winger Said Benrahma and Spain midfielder Pablo Fornals both going close to extending the lead against the Danish visitors.

West Ham keeper Alphonse Areola was forced into a fine save to keep out Soren Tengstedt in the second half.

With one round of games to go, David Moyes' side cannot be caught at the top of Group B.

They have 15 points from five games, nine more than second-placed Silkeborg.

Hearts were ruthlessly punished by Istanbul Basaksehir as their Conference League group campaign ended in defeat.

A free header and a goalkeeping blunder gifted Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Serdar Gurler first-half strikes in Istanbul.

Substitute Berkay Ozcan slammed in a third seconds after coming on.

The Edinburgh side, who were consigned to third already, competed well in a largely empty Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium, and got a deserved consolation through Nathaniel Atkinson late on.

Basaksehir finish top of Group A with a better head-to-head record over runners-up Fiorentina, with RFS of Latvia bottom on two points.

"We lost a poor goal right at the start, a free header after four minutes, which rocked us a wee bit," said boss Robbie Neilson. "Although they had a lot of possession, they didn't take us apart too much. We lost another poor goal and at this level you can't do that.

"There's a lot of positives but a lot of learning to come from it. That's the key from this season. It's about - can we compete at this level and then come back and win on a Sunday? We've managed to do it a couple of times."

The draw for the knockout round play-offs was held on 7th November 2022, 14:00 CET.

The first legs will be played on 16th February, and the second legs were played on 23rd February 2023.
