THURSDAY 18th MAY 2023 - EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE - SEMI-FINAL - 2ND LEG - VENUE: AFAS STADION.
AZ Alkmaar 0 West Ham United 1 (Fornals 90+4) - (Agg: 1-3)ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1821F/production/_129774889_gettyimages-1255962913.jpgWest Ham have an opportunity to win a first European trophy since they lifted the Cup Winners' Cup in 1965West Ham United reached their first major European final since 1976 after they overcame AZ Alkmaar in their Europa Conference League semi-final. Having won the first leg at London Stadium 2-1, the Hammers were resolute away to their Dutch opponents, reaching the final in Prague on 7 June with a 1-0 second-leg win. David Moyes' side soaked up plenty of pressure at AFAS Stadium until Pablo Fornals scored on the counter-attack in second-half injury time. The night, however, was soured by what appeared to be unpleasant scenes off the pitch. AZ Alkmaar appeared to attack an area in which friends and family of the West Ham players were watching the match. West Ham will face Fiorentina, who beat Basel in extra time in the other semi-final. The Hammers are hoping to lift their first major trophy since they lifted the 1980 FA Cup; they were one of three winners of the 1999 Intertoto Cup. Hammers end 47-year wait for finalWest Ham's last European final had been in the 1975-76 Cup Winners' Cup when they lost 4-2 to Anderlecht. They came agonisingly close to breaking that duck last season, losing 3-1 on aggregate to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-finals. This time around they were disciplined, keeping their hosts at arm's length for much of their second leg. Paqueta clipped the outside of the post in the 26th minute after good work from Michail Antonio, while captain Declan Rice forced a good save from AZ keeper Mat Ryan shortly after the restart. Defender Nayef Aguerd also dragged an effort wide from close range in the 82nd minute, before Pablo Fornals raced clear in injury time and buried the ball into the bottom corner to seal the tie. It means the Hammers have an opportunity to win a first European trophy since they lifted the Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4D87/production/_129774891_gettyimages-1491355619.jpgWest Ham boss David Moyes has never won a major trophy as a managerIt would cap off a fine turnaround for Moyes' side, who were booed by their own fans on 5 April when they suffered a 5-1 home defeat by Newcastle to leave them just a point clear of the Premier League relegation zone. The Hammers are 15th in the table with two games left, and need just a point across their final two league games to mathematically confirm their safety. AZ second-best against mighty West HamEredivisie side AZ were in their first European semi-final since losing to Sporting Lisbon in the last four of the 2004-05 Uefa Cup. The 1981 Uefa Cup finalists had enjoyed an impressive European run, beating Lazio in the last 16 and coming from two goals down to beat Anderlecht on penalties in the quarter-finals. They threw everything at West Ham in the closing stages - and Hammers defender Thilo Kehrer nearly caught out keeper Alphonse Areola with a risky back-pass. And defender Kurt Zouma was relieved not to have been penalised for a handball in the area, with the video assistant referee deciding not to overturn Slovakian referee Ivan Kruzliak's non-penalty call. Despite opening the scoring in London last week, AZ slumped to a 3-1 aggregate defeat. They need one more point from their final two league fixtures to secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season's Europa Conference League qualifiers. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/11339/production/_129775407_gettyimages-1491358037.jpg

West Ham players confront AZ Alkmaar fans after 'awful scenes' in stand..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DB5D/production/_129775165_azalkmaarfans.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/173B5/production/_129775159_5085ff57-dacb-4f37-ae39-c39d6be1d592.jpgWest Ham players confronted a group of AZ Alkmaar fans who attacked an area in which friends and family were watching the teams' Europa Conference League semi-final second leg. Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma were among those who tried to intervene in the clashes moments after the Premier League team had reached the final. BBC commentator Alistair Bruce-Ball, who was inside the stadium, said he saw punches being thrown by the AZ fans. "These are awful scenes," he said. During last week's first leg at London Stadium, family members of AZ players had been involved in a confrontation with West Ham fans. Hammers manager David Moyes said his players were angered by what had happened in the AFAS Stadion. "We'll need to wait for the dust to settle to see what it is but the biggest problem is that is the area where the players have all their families in," he said. "That is where the problem came, and a lot of players were getting angry because they couldn't get to see if they were OK. "We'll have to wait and ask the officials what really happened. I can only tell you that players were involved because that was the family area." West Ham reached their first major European final since 1976 by beating their Dutch opponents 1-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate. Moyes, who said his own family and friends were in the section that was attacked, added: "What I don't want to do in any way is blight our night. It wasn't West Ham supporters looking for trouble. "Was I worried? Yeah, my family were there and I had friends in that section. You're hoping they would try to get themselves away from it. "Security wanted to take me inside, but I had to make sure my players weren't involved." AZ boss Pascal Jansen said: "What happened last week was very unfortunate and then you get the same feeling as what happened tonight. "I feel a little bit ashamed it happened in our stadium but you have to control your emotions." Former Hammers midfielder Joe Cole, who was part of the BT Sport team covering the match, said what happened was "absurd". "Grown men attacking the West Ham fans," he said. "Players were trying to get involved to break it up. "AZ Alkmaar fans turning up wearing balaclavas throwing punches is ridiculous. There were families." 'I can see punches being thrown'Bruce-Ball, who was commentating for BBC Radio 5 Live in the AFAS Stadion, described the scenes as "unpleasant". "Some fans clad in dark coats and hoods up came racing down in front of the lower tier of the stand to voice their dissatisfaction, and there is trouble to our right-hand side," he told listeners. "The concern here is I think the West Ham family members and friends are in that section. Those are very, very unpleasant scenes. "The West Ham players are being held back. I can see in the distance punches being thrown."

Europa Conference League: Pablo Fornals writes name into 'West Ham history forever'..By Joe Rindl, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/110D7/production/_129774896_gettyimages-1491357212.jpgPablo Fornals' goal sealed West Ham's 3-1 aggregate win over AZ Alkmaar"His name is going to be written into West Ham history forever." West Ham United captain Declan Rice was full of praise for Pablo Fornals whose goal sealed his side's Europa Conference League semi-final win over AZ Alkmaar. With the second leg goalless, and AZ trailing 2-1 on aggregate and pushing for an equaliser, Fornals finished off a counter with a late strike into the bottom corner to send West Ham into their first major European final since 1976. It was his sixth goal of the season and only his second since 9th November, but it sparked joyous celebrations from the Hammers players, staff and supporters. "He's not played as much as he wanted to this year but every time he has come on he has given everything for the badge, for the shirt," Rice told BT Sport after his side's 3-1 aggregate win. Fornals has started 15 of West Ham's 36 Premier League matches this season, but when it counted, he won the ball back on the halfway line, knocked it through the legs of Jordy Clasie, and buried his shot into the net. "To score that goal and put it through his legs to send West Ham into the final, his name is going to be written in West Ham history forever," Rice added: West Ham manager David Moyes eched the praise of Fornals. "He is a real team player," Moyes added to BT Sport. "I think if there was any player I wanted to score today, it would have been Pablo." 'You hear Bobby Moore mentioned all the time'ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/76F9/production/_129775403_gettyimages-1491361208.jpgDeclan Rice has been linked with summer moves away from London Stadium in recent weeksThe Hammers have an opportunity to win a first major European trophy since they lifted the Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. Against 1860 Munich at Wembley 58 years ago, West Ham were captained by Bobby Moore in a 2-0 win. Declan Rice could emulate the World Cup-winning captain when his side take on Fiorentina in their final in Prague on 7 June. "Everyone speaks about Bobby Moore, you hear his name mentioned all the time," added Rice. "Of course I am trying to write history with West Ham to be the captain to do that as well but also for the lads as well, I think all of our names will be written into history if we can do this."One more game now, we'll give it absolutely everything and try to make the fans and our family proud and we've done that tonight."

AZ Alkmaar apologise after West Ham fans attacked at Europa Conference League semi-finalichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DB5D/production/_129775165_azalkmaarfans.jpgAZ Alkmaar say their Europa Conference League semi-final against West Ham is "a night to reflect on with shame" after a section of the stadium where away fans were sitting was attacked. Several West Ham players confronted the group of fans that had targeted an area containing their friends and family. AZ said in a statement of apology: "Unfortunately, we cannot use the word 'supporters' for these people." The club said they will "evaluate" the incident. "While everyone hoped for a historic European match, it turned into a pitch black evening due to the events occurring at the referee's final whistle," AZ's statement added. "It turned into a night to reflect on with shame. Not because of the football game played, but because of the behaviour of some visitors. "What happened is beyond all bounds. The club again sincerely apologises to West Ham and the thousands of well minded AZ supporters who have also been inconvenienced by the misconduct. "AZ is a civilised club where sportsmanship and norms and values are paramount. The club will do everything possible, together with the authorities involved, to identify these persons and to take appropriate measures." West Ham's first-team coach Kevin Nolan has urged Uefa to issue tough punishments. "If this was England, there would be lots of sanctions put on us. I hope they put loads of sanctions on the Dutch," Nolan said on 5 Live's Friday Football Social. "I am disgusted that they would come and go for family which is what they did." 'There were stewards but no police'A West Ham supporter sat in the area attacked by AZ fans said there were no police nearby and stewards could not cope, describing the incident at the AFAS Stadion as "scary". "There were stewards there but no police to stop them," Russell Raphael told the BBC News Channel. "More than 30 of them in balaclavas somehow breached their area and were running towards us. "Some very brave West Ham fans, about 10 rows to our right, were doing their best to stop them, the stewards were doing their best. "The players instead of celebrating with the main away support panicked and saw their families being threatened, so they very understandably ran to get involved. "These [fans in] balaclavas, hooded, all dressed in black, it is a scary thing and we were very lucky not to be physically involved." Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma were among the players who tried to intervene, while the 87-year-old father of West Ham manager David Moyes was reportedly sat in the stands in the Netherlands. It is understood the families of the players were unharmed. West Ham won the game 1-0 for a 3-1 aggregate victory. "The security going in was fine. You expect to be herded like cattle in these away games, that's the way it is," added Raphael, who watched the match with his son, Aidan. "They kept us back for a long time after the game and there was a lot of police going out. I didn't feel in danger around the ground. In the ground it was just stewards who were clearly unable to cope with what was going on. "It must have taken 10 minutes for the police to arrive." European football's governing body Uefa will review reports of the incidents before deciding on any action. Dutch police said they were investigating footage of the incident but no arrests had been made. 'There was nothing we could do' - Moyes"I was disappointed because I felt like it took the attention off the team and what we did," said Moyes on Friday. "There was nothing we could do, or that West Ham as a club could do. Like anyone, if you saw your family members in trouble then you'd go and help out and that was the situation. "Unfortunately it's taken up a lot of the news and time. But we're not letting it take away from the fact we reached the final, which is a brilliant achievement." AZ Alkmaar manager Pascal Jansen said he was "a little bit ashamed" that the incident had happened in their stadium, while Pantelis Hatzidiakos was one of several AZ players who condemned the violence. "I think it's sad what happened. My family was up there. I have been in contact with them and my girlfriend said they were shaking," the Greece defender told Dutch television. "I don't even call them supporters. Just stay home if you have such intentions."

Europa Conference League: AZ Alkmaar issue 43 stadium bans after West Ham fans attacked..
AZ Alkmaar have issued 43 stadium bans after West Ham United fans were attacked during their Europa Conference League semi-final defeat.
Several Hammers players confronted the group of fans that had targeted an area containing their friends and family, who were unharmed.
The Premier League side won the second leg in the Netherlands 1-0 to secure a 3-1 victory on aggregate.
In a statement, the Dutch club said more bans could follow in the future.
European football's governing body Uefa will review reports of the incidents before deciding on any action.
The club said: "AZ has now issued 43 stadium bans in response to last week's disturbances. It concerns visitors who were involved in the misconduct surrounding the European semi-final in Alkmaar.
"It is by no means excluded that even more local stadium bans will be imposed. Apart from this decision from the club, the criminal investigation by the authorities is still ongoing."
Measures for Sunday's Eredivisie match between AZ and PSV Eindhoven are being discussed between relevant authorities.
West Ham will face Italian club Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final - their first major European final since 1976 - in Prague on 7th June.

Europa Conference League final: West Ham boss David Moyes says 'best is yet to come'..By Simon Stone, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4D87/production/_129774891_gettyimages-1491355619.jpgWest Ham boss David Moyes says "the best is yet to come" from the club as he prepares for his first European final in 25 years as a manager. Moyes is hoping to lift the first significant silverware of his managerial career when West Ham take on Serie A side Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday. But it is clear the 60-year-old views the game in Prague as the continuation of a journey rather the end of his time at the Premier League club. "To be in a European final is a thrill," said Moyes. "For an experienced or a younger manager, to reach a final is one of the pinnacles in football. "It is the start. I am enjoying being here and I have always said the best is to come." The game can bring what has, at times, been a tortuous season to a glorious conclusion. West Ham have not won a trophy since their FA Cup triumph in 1980. Their only European success came in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, with a team including Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, who won the World Cup the following year and in tribute to whom a statue now stands outside the London Stadium. Yet despite this lack of recent success, some fans believe even if West Ham win it should mark the end of Moyes' tenure. The Scot still has a year left on his current deal and, in an interview with the London Evening Standard, he confirmed his intention to remain at the club despite being singled out for criticism during a heavy defeat at Brighton in March, a banner demanding 'Moyes Out' being displayed during a win at Fulham the following month and a new vacancy at boyhood club Celtic following Ange Postecoglou's departure for Tottenham. "There are too many good things about what we have done to stop now," he said. "When I saw that banner it was hurtful because it drains your power and strength to do things. When people continually question you though, it drains you. I've got to say it wasn't a good time. Did I feel lonely? Hugely." Moyes will not feel lonely in the 20,000-capacity Eden Arena. A huge family contingent will be supporting him at the game, including his 87-year-old dad, David Sr - not that Moyes is expecting pre-match words of inspiration. "He will be in the pub," he laughed. "I do have a huge following of family," he said. "All of you who have children and see your kids being successful will know how it feels. "My dad is here tomorrow. Hopefully we can give him something to remember." Moyes describes the game as his "biggest night" in football but dismissed suggestions winning it will see him become a legendary figure at the club. Yet that is what awaits. For midfielder Tomas Soucek and defender Vladimir Coufal the night could be even more special given the Czech internationals are both playing at a stadium so familiar from their time together at Slavia Prague. "When I realised one year ago the final was here, I told all the players it had to be a big goal for this year," he said. "This place, the pitch, the dressing rooms, the tunnel feel so comfortable. Now we are here I can connect the two teams I love. "It is the chance to lift a trophy and, for me, it is special the final is in Prague." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/12C6F/production/_130011967_gettyimages-1496424470.jpg

Europa Conference League final: Everything you need to know as West Ham play Fiorentina..West Ham United play Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday (20:00 BST kick-off), with the Hammers looking to secure a first major trophy for 43 years. There are reports up to 20,000 West Ham fans will be in Prague, Czech Republic, despite the club receiving 4,890 tickets for the 19,370-capacity Fortuna Arena. "We're absolutely thrilled to be in the final," said Hammers boss David Moyes. "It's a big achievement for the club, but now it's about going and winning it." West Ham have not won a major European trophy since defeating 1860 Munich in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup at Wembley in 1965. Their last major domestic trophy was the 1980 FA Cup. The Europa Conference League is in its second season and is a third tier European club football competition after the Champions League and Europa League. Why such a small venue?Uefa chose Prague as a venue before last season's competition actually started. But the tournament has proved popular with clubs from bigger countries, with Leicester City, Roma, Marseille and Feyenoord reaching the semi-finals last season. Uefa have already decided to increase the minimum final capacity to 30,000 from next season. But for this one, it is too late. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/89CF/production/_129997253_gettyimages-1258456751.jpgChelsea lost on penalties to Bayern Munich in the 2013 Uefa Super Cup at the Fortuna Arena in PragueWhat's at stake?West Ham finished 14th in the Premier League table, six points above the relegation zone, but will secure a third successive season in Europe if they defeat their Italian opponents. That is because the winners of the Europa Conference League will qualify for the group stage of the 2023-24 Europa League. West Ham, if successful, will join fellow Premier League clubs Liverpool and Brighton in next season's competition. It will mean eight English clubs will compete in Europe next season: Manchester City (Champions League group), Arsenal (Champions League), Manchester United (Champions League), Newcastle United (Champions League), Liverpool (Europa League), Brighton (Europa League), Aston Villa (Europa Conference League play-off round). Watch and listen - how to follow
BBC Radio 5 Live will have full commentary of Wednesday's final, while the BBC Sport website will have live text, analysis and reaction. BT Sport is making the Europa Conference League final available for everyone in the UK to watch whether on TV, online or on mobile. It is doing the same for Saturday's Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan (20:00 BST). 'It feels special, it feels big'
This is West Ham's 15th European game of the season after starting the Europa Conference League campaign in the play-off round on 18 August. Moyes' side have played in Denmark (twice), Belgium (twice), Romania, Cyprus and the Netherlands. "I don't know if we'll ever get a statue [if West Ham win] but I do believe that the players have got a good opportunity to be remembered by everybody at this club," added Moyes. "It feels special." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/3FFB/production/_129997361_europaconference.png'We have a mission to complete'
Fiorentina finished eighth in this season's Serie A and have not won a major European title since the 1960-61 European Cup Winners' Cup. The Viola have lost three times in this season's competition but Vincenzo Italiano's side have still made it through to face West Ham. "It is my first season in Europe and reaching the final is a great satisfaction," said Italiano. "This path to the final will always remain with us but now we have a mission to complete." It is Fiorentina's second final of the season after finishing runners-up to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia.

WEDNESDAY 7th JUNE 2023 - EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE - FINAL - PRAGUE FORTUNA ARENA.
Fiorentina v West Ham United - 8pmWest Ham boss David Moyes says Wednesday's Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina will be the "biggest moment of my career". The Hammers are bidding for a first trophy since the 1980 FA Cup, while Moyes has never won a major competition. There will be 4,890 West Ham fans in Prague's 19,370-seater Fortuna Arena. "Whether you're an experienced manager or a young one, sitting here for a final is the pinnacle," said Moyes. "Hopefully this is just the start for us. I'm enjoying this one and enjoying the moment with everybody." If they beat Fiorentina, they will be in next season's Europa League - otherwise they will not be in Europe. "I think if we said this at the start of the season, people wouldn't have believed it," said Moyes about being in the final. "It's a big achievement to get through to a European final. It's not easy to get all the way through and we've been competitive. It's a great achievement for all the players and the next part is to see if we can go on and win it. "This competition has been so good for us. The squad and players have really enjoyed it and I think the results and performances in the Europa Conference League speak for themselves." The game is being played at Slavia Prague, the former club of West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal and midfielder Tomas Soucek. Soucek said: "When I realised a year ago that the final was in Prague, for me it was like 'we need to go there'. "We are here, in the Eden Arena in Prague, and I can connect my two teams who I love together. Tomorrow is the chance to lift the trophy here. For me, it would be so special. "It will help me because I will feel at home, the locker room I know, the pitch I know. I have been here many times. "West Ham have a great history but we can do even better to get a trophy for this club. We want to do it for the West Ham fans." Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A and lost the Coppa Italia final to Inter Milan. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/976/cpsprodpb/11DAB/production/_130013137_mirror.jpg

'Soak it up' - Trevor Brooking on being in a European final..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/8d01/live/d504d7a0-04ff-11ee-b09d-2f30399d1e03.jpgWest Ham legend Sir Trevor Brooking has urged the players to "soak up the experience" of Wednesday's Europa Conference League final because "these moments don't come around very often". Brooking appeared in the 1976 Cup Winners' Cup final when the Hammers were beaten by Anderlecht and says he is delighted to see his club competing in European football again. "Everyone is chuffed because it is not as if West Ham are challenging every other season in Europe," he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "When we were last in there after winning the FA Cup in 1980, we had a really tough draw and went out. Since then we have never quite threatened. "It has been such a long time and they will all be up for it. They should soak up these experiences and take them in." Brooking also believes beating Fiorentina to secure Europa League football could be the catalyst for success next season after a difficult campaign in the Premier League. "It will be fantastic if they win," he said. "I know the ups and downs of football but this would build on the disappointing season and have the club looking forward. "It would enable them to sign more good players and, having finished the season well, I hope they are relaxed and ready." ........................................................................................................................................................................ 'We can make this season an unbelievable one'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/efaf/live/7ca075c0-048b-11ee-a0f4-1904489ced5e.jpgWest Ham midfielder Jarrow Bowen said the Hammers "don't want to celebrate" just staying in the Premier League and "want more" from the season. David Moyes' side can finish a difficult season on a high when they come up against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night in Prague. Speaking to the media before the match, Bowen said: "We could be here hours trying to figure out what went wrong. I think the main thing throughout the season was that we stayed up, and that's not something to celebrate because we don't want to celebrate just staying in the league - this club has high standards and we want more. "But that was the first goal and the next goal now is to win this trophy. We've come into a good bit of form at the end of the season and mentally, we're ready. We're physically ready for a massive game tomorrow night." After missing out on the Europa League final last year, West Ham could win their first piece of European silverware in nearly 60 years. "I've been here three years and, if you told me three years ago we'd be in a European final, I'd bite your hand off. We were disappointed last year but that's given us extra motivation this year. The fans are travelling out here and they're incredible. We want to win it for us, but mainly for the fans," added Bowen. Fellow midfielder Tomas Soucek agreed with the Englishman and said: "Tomorrow is a massive game and we can make this season an unbelievable one if we can get the win and lift the trophy." "West Ham has a great history but we can make even more by winning this trophy. It's a big game for all of us." ................................................................................................................................................................... 'The biggest thing I've been involved in' - Michail Antonio..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/e08b/live/0305e0d0-0137-11ee-88e2-2b311f243286.jpgWest Ham striker Michail Antonio has put the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina into context - the only other final he has been involved in was Southampton's Football League Trophy victory over Carlisle in 2010. "It’s massive," he said. “We’ve not been in a [European] final for 47 years. I’ve won a JPT [Football League Trophy] final, so this is massive for me. It’s probably the biggest thing I’ve been involved in, in my life. "Most people want to retire with some type of accolades and this is an opportunity for me to have those accolades. But it’s not just for me, it’s for everyone. "They [West Ham] finished runners-up [in the 1976 Cup Winners' Cup] - we want to win it."

We asked you for your pre-match team talks for West Ham's Europa Conferance League final against Fiorentina.
Here are some of the best:
Matthew: Tonight is an opportunity. An opportunity to write your names into West Ham folklore. To be celebrated alongside Moore, Hurst and Peters. Bonds and Brooking. Greenwood and Lyall. But even more than that, it's an opportunity to repay a debt. A debt of unwavering loyalty and faith to tens of thousands of West Ham fans across the world. COYI!
Malcolm: Right, lads, it’s a simple game. Keep the ball on the ground, find a team-mate. No Roy of the Rovers passes. Always keep possession and definitely no time wasting. Man-marking is crucial at set-pieces. Let’s not give away costly fouls, especially around our penalty area. If it goes to a shootout: right-footers, ball in top right corner - likewise for left.
Rob: It's just another game lads, we've got to be 100% tonight. You're better than they are. They might be a tough team - but we're tougher. Just go out there, have fun, express yourselves, communication, tracking back, covering, throwing your bodies on the line. It's your chance for immortality. Let's have them. lads. COME ON!
Steve: Right, lads. Close your eyes. Imagine you are already 1-0 down after five minutes, so what will you do? Excellent. Hold that thought and start the game with that attitude! End of team talk!
Peter: All right, team, this is it. This is our moment. This is our chance to make history. Seize it, lads. Remember, we're not just playing for ourselves - we're playing for each other, our families, the fans, our country. Let's bring that trophy home. Let's go, West Ham. Everything you’ve got. All in. Now is your time, step up, hands in - one, two three, IRONS!
Alex: I would say nothing for ages and then just say: "How about it then?"

Declan Rice has the chance to become the first West Ham captain to lift a major trophy for 43 years when he leads his side out against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.
Hammers stars of years gone by have had their say on the Englishman's importance and what winning the final could mean for his legacy as he prepares for what could be his last game for the club.
Tony Cottee: "Bobby Moore and Billy Bonds are the only two captains to lift trophies for West Ham. Would Rice be worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as those two? I think he already is. We all know and accept there is a good possibility he wont be at West Ham next season. We all understand where he is coming from. He is a fabulous player and he's only 24, so there is still a lot more to come from him. If we see him lifting that trophy, everyone will be so pleased and delighted for him. He will deservedly go down in history as one of three captains to lift a trophy for West Ham."
Sir Trevor Brooking: "Declan’s enthusiasm for the club has never dwindled. He has never taken it easy, but instead has given it his all. He loves the crowd. He couldn’t have done anything any better. It would be deserved icing on the cake if he lifted the trophy before he moved on."
Scott Minto: "Rice is absolutely key, beforehand in the dressing room as well as on the pitch. He will be making sure everyone is up for it, everyone is in the right mental state. He will make sure what will probably be his last game will be positive and his positivity will go through the whole team. He can absolutely control the midfield to make sure they play in the way West Ham want."
