Because no decent Football Club in Europe will touch him with a barge pole. He's going to have to take a massive pay cut if he wants to stay in Europe (and in the headlines that he craves so much).

World Cup 2022: Cristiano Ronaldo coy about Portugal future as World Cup 'dream' ends..Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo was coy about his international future as he responded to his side's World Cup exit following defeat by Morocco. The 37-year-old forward was in tears as he walked back to the dressing room after the 1-0 quarter-final. Ronaldo played as a substitute, having also come off the bench in the last-16 win against Switzerland. "To win a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career," he wrote on social media. "Unfortunately, yesterday [Saturday] the dream ended." Ronaldo left Manchester United by mutual agreement before the 2022 World Cup after a controversial interview in which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner heavily criticised the club. He started each of his country's three group games at the tournament before manager Fernando Santos dropped him to the bench for the win over Switzerland. Portuguese publication Record claimed Ronaldo threatened to leave the tournament after being told he would not start against Switzerland, but the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and Santos denied that had happened. "I just want everyone to know that a lot was said, a lot was written, a lot was speculated, but my dedication to Portugal didn't change for an instant," Ronaldo added. "I was always one more player fighting for everyone's goal and I would never turn my back on my team-mates and my country. "For now, there's not much more to say. Thank you, Portugal. Thank you, Qatar. The dream was beautiful while it lasted... Now, we have to let time be a good adviser and allow everyone to draw their own conclusions." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/240/cpsprodpb/10119/production/_127971856_hi080957004.jpg

Tension is growing between Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, and his agent Jorge Mendes as the uncertainty over the Portugal forward's future continues after his departure from Manchester United.
Al Nassr coach Rudi Garcia would welcome the chance to work with Ronaldo after the Saudi Arabian club's reported interest in signing him, and the Spaniard says he was "very close" to succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United last year.
Ronaldo will not retire from international football after Portugal's World Cup exit, even if Fernando Santos remains as coach.

Jorge Mendes: "Take the money ffs. And let me get my cut." Ronaldo (sobbing): "But if I go to Saudi Arabia, people will forget about me. I'll lose Instagram followers. Even Piers Morgan won't be arsed to interview me. So get me my 'dream move' to Sporting and get them to offer me more money". Mendes: "Shame you're not in a World Cup Final, like Messi. That would generate a bit more interest in you". Ronaldo is now so obviously distraught, he is unable to speak. Phew.

Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo training at former club after Manchester United exit.. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/CE7C/production/_128006825_tv039856802.jpgCristiano Ronaldo has been using Real Madrid's training base to keep fit after Portugal's World Cup exit. After his contract at Manchester United was cancelled last month, Ronaldo is free to join another club on 1 January. Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr have made a big-money offer for the 37-year-old forward, although it is understood he has other options. Ronaldo trained alone at Real's Valdebebas base and there is no option of a return to the Spanish club. Ronaldo's second spell at Manchester United was brought to a premature end after a controversial interview in which the five-time Ballon d'Or winner criticised the club and said he had "no respect" for manager Erik ten Hag. That came two days before Portugal began their World Cup campaign and Ronaldo started their first three games, reacting angrily when he was substituted in the final group game against South Korea. The Portuguese Football Federation denied that Ronaldo threatened to leave the squad after being told he would not start the last-16 game against Switzerland, and his replacement Goncalo Ramos went on to score a hat-trick in a 6-1 win. The tournament in Qatar was expected to be Ronaldo's last chance to win a World Cup, and he came off the bench against Switzerland and Morocco but could not prevent the African side knocking out Portugal. That 1-0 upset in the quarter-finals could be Ronaldo's last World Cup game and he said on social media: "The dream was nice while it lasted". In asking Real to use their training facility rather than take a break following Portugal's early exit, Ronaldo has given a clear indication he is ready to join a new club at the earliest opportunity. However, that will not be Real, whose all-time leading scorer is Ronaldo with 450 goals in 438 games, during time which he won the Champions League four times and La Liga twice. Ronaldo made a then-world-record move to Real from Manchester United in 2009 and left for Juventus in 2018.

Bruno Fernandes speaks out as Portugal boss pays price for Cristiano Ronaldo decision..
Bruno Fernandes has paid tribute to departing Portugal manager Fernando Santos after the veteran boss was sacked this week.
Santos, who guided Portugal to their inaugural major tournament win at Euro 2016, has paid the price for an underwhelming World Cup. The Selecao headed to Qatar as one of the pre-tournament favourites but crashed out to Morocco at the quarter-final stage.
The 68-year-old had a contract which extended to the summer of 2024, but on Thursday it was confirmed the two parties had come to a mutual agreement to go in a new direction.
“It was an honour to have a coach and a person like Fernando Santos at the head of the National Team,” a statement from the Portuguese FA reads.
“The FPF thanks Fernando Santos and his technical team for the services provided over eight unique years and believes that this thanks is also made on behalf of the Portuguese people. The FPF Board will now begin the process of choosing the next national coach.”
Santos’ final tournament in charge was littered with controversy after he opted to drop the talismanic Cristiano Ronaldo for their knockout clashes. The former Manchester United striker managed one goal in the group stages, but was replaced by Goncalo Ramos for the games with Switzerland and Morocco.
That decision sparked rumours of a rift between player and manager, although Ronaldo insisted he had no intention of turning his back on his country. His partner Georgina Rodriguez did little to quash speculation of a feud however, penning a pointed message to Santos after their elimination.
“Today your friend and coach made the wrong decision,” she posted after the defeat to Morocco.
"That friend for whom you have so many words of admiration and respect. The same one who, when putting you on the field, saw how everything changed, but it was too late.
“You can’t underestimate the best player in the world, its most powerful weapon. Much less should one stand up for those who don’t deserve it.”
However, Fernandes appeared to show no ill-feeling towards Santos for their failure in Qatar and penned an emotional tribute to Portugal’s most successful ever manager. “Many thanks to mister Fernando Santos. Thank you for the opportunity to represent our country and for the trust in us the past few years,” he posted on social media.
“As a Portuguese, thank you for putting Portugal at the top of Europe and returning confidence and belief to a ‘small’ country that it was possible to be among the ‘big ones’.
“Moments of glory and joy and others of sadness and frustration, but history was made and will forever be marked in the hearts of all Portuguese.”
The United midfielder was one of the stars of Portugal’s campaign and easily outshone his former Old Trafford colleague. Fernandes was also forced to deny rumours of his own fallout with Ronaldo after their frosty dressing room handshake went viral at the start of the tournament.
After the game with Morocco he went on record to insist that the decision to drop Ronaldo wasn’t the reason for their exit. He said: "Maybe because he is who he is, people click more often on his news, to see what he is about.
"It was not for any of this that the Selection did not go further. We simply couldn't beat Morocco."

Breaking News: Cristiano Ronaldo joins Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr until 2025..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/35B2/production/_128164731_ronaldo.pngThe Portugal captain is a free agent after leaving Manchester United following a controversial interview in which he criticised the club. Ronaldo will reportedly receive the biggest football salary in history at more than £177m per year. The 37-year-old says he is "eager to experience a new football league in a different country". Al Nassr - nine-time Saudi Pro League champions - described the signing as "history in the making". The club said it would "inspire our league, nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves". In the summer, Ronaldo turned down a £305m deal to join another Saudi team - Al Hilal - because he was happy at United. Earlier in November, the striker spoke out in an interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV in which he said he felt "betrayed" by United, did not respect manager Erik ten Hag and was being forced out of the club. Ronaldo, who scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for United, left Juventus to rejoin the Old Trafford club in August 2021 - 11 years after he departed to join Real Madrid. He had just over seven months remaining on his £500,000-a-week contract with United but his immediate exit was "mutually agreed". A day after he left the club, he was banned for two domestic matches for knocking a phone out of an Everton fan's hand after United's defeat at Goodison Park in April. He will serve the ban at domestic level with any new club - in England or abroad - although it does not apply at continental club level, such as the Champions League. Ronaldo recently returned from playing for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar, where he made history by becoming the first man to score at five different Fifa World Cups with his strike in his side's opening win against Ghana.

Blimey epping! If £177m per year (reputedly) is a massive pay cut then he must have been on a fair contract at Man U.😉 Seriously, whatever the salary he’s going to a backwater in international football terms because as you say, no top team took a chance with him. The interview with Morgan showed him up as a non-team player which was confirmed at the World Cup and what happened to Portugal. No manager would put up with his antics. He may have thought that he was dissing Man U and Ten Haag but in the end it was Ronaldo who suffered. A sad end. UTG!

Jamie Carragher shows no mercy to Cristiano Ronaldo on live TV after Al-Nassr move is confirmed..
What did Jamie Carragher say about Cristiano Ronaldo?
After the news broke, Carragher gave his thoughts live on Friday Night Football at Anfield following Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester City.
And it’s fair to say that the former Premier League defender, who was blanked by Ronaldo earlier this season, showed the forward no mercy with his comments.
Carragher, standing alongside Ronaldo’s former teammate Gary Neville, said: “Yeah, I mean in some ways it’s a sad end for him, isn’t it really?
“Two of the greatest players of all time in [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo…
“I mean, Ronaldo’s finished his career with an interview with Piers Morgan and Messi won the World Cup. It’s not the best way to go out, is it?”
Ouch.

Big bucks being paid in the Saudi Arabian dwarf throwing league Ah. I see. Apologies for not quoting you accurately. UTG! No worries Wareham, I just can't stand him. His behaviour since the summer has been universally criticized. By everyone except Piers Morgan. Nuff said. HNY!

Cristiano Ronaldo has a clause in his Al Nassr contract allowing the Portugal forward, 37, to join Newcastle United on loan if they qualify for the Champions League this season. So his only way back into European football is via the owners of Newcastle United (a Saudi wealth management fund) telling Eddie Howe how to run the playing side of Newcastle United. Sums up nicely all that is wrong with football.

'They know nothing about football' - Cristiano Ronaldo hits back at criticism over Al-Nassr transfer..
WHAT HAPPENED? The Portuguese superstar has hit back at critics after being unveiled at Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr. Ronaldo signed a lucrative deal with the club that will make him the highest paid player in the history of the sport. His decision to head to Saudi after leaving Man Utd has been questioned, but Ronaldo responded with a strong message to his detractors.
WHAT THEY SAID: "Many people speak and give their opinions but they really do not know nothing about football. As you know football now, probably the last 10-15 years it is different, all the teams are more prepared, more ready," he told reporters. "So for me it's not the end of my career to come to [Saudi Arabia], that's what I want to change. So I really don't worry about what the people say."
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Ronaldo also insisted at his unveiling that he had received plenty of other offers from clubs around the world before deciding that Al-Nassr was the best place for him to continue his career.
WHAT NEXT RONALDO? Ronaldo also said he wants to play in Al-Nassr's next game. The team are back in action in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday against Al Tee.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores four times for Al Nassr to pass 500 league goals..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/127DA/production/_128583757_gettyimages-1246454224.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/7EF1/production/_128579423_0d61174b7169d7776fa1b941bcc0ff8e59aa2584.jpgCristiano Ronaldo scored four times to move past the 500 career league goal mark as Al Nassr beat Al Wehda 4-0 in the Saudi Pro League. The Portugal forward, who turned 38 on Sunday, struck in a 40-minute period either side of the break. He has now scored 503 league goals for five different clubs in five different leagues. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner joined Al Nassr in December, reportedly on a salary of £177m per year. However, he did not enjoy the most prolific of starts with his new employers, managing one goal from the penalty spot in his first three competitive appearances for the club. Ronaldo left Manchester United in November, having scored 103 league goals across two spells at the club. He scored 311 times in La Liga for Real Madrid, registered 81 goals in Serie A for Juventus and managed three in the Portuguese top flight for his first professional club, Sporting Lisbon. Ronaldo's four goals ensured Al Nassr returned to the top of the table on goal difference and with a game in hand on second-placed Al Shabab.
