From all the reports coming in it looks as though the new Russian advance Eastwards is happening quicker than the Ukrainians can keep up. Fingers crossed this could be seismic.

Ukraine war: Russians 'outnumbered 8-1' in counter-attack.

Ukrainian forces outnumbered Russians by eight to one in last week's counter-attack in the Kharkiv region, Russia's top occupation official there says.

Vitaly Ganchev told Russian TV that Ukraine's army had taken villages in the north and broken through to the Russian border.

Ukraine says it has regained control over 3,000 sq km of (1,158 sq miles) of territory in a potential breakthrough in the six-month war.

The BBC cannot verify these figures.

The Ukrainian army says it took back 20 villages in the past 24 hours alone, in its continued counter-offensive in the north-east of the country.

UK defence officials say the Ukrainian army's successes will have "significant implications" for Russia's overall operational design.

A Kremlin spokesperson was however undeterred, saying operations in Ukraine would continue "until all the tasks that were initially set" had been fulfilled.

Russia said its forces were carrying out strikes in those areas that Ukraine had retaken recently.

This included targets in Izyum and Kupiansk which were taken by Ukraine on Saturday. Russia confirmed its forces' retreat from both towns, which it said would allow them to "regroup".

Russia has been accused of targeting civilian infrastructure in revenge for setbacks on the battlefield.

Moscow struck back on Sunday with a wave of missile strikes across Ukraine, causing power cuts.

The blackouts reportedly affected millions of people in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. The Kharkiv city mayor says power is now restored.

Ihor Terekhov called it a vile and cynical attempt at revenge for the Ukrainian army's recent successes.

Ukraine's Defence Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said the priority now was to secure the territorial gains made in a week of rapid advances in the Kharkiv region.

The Russian army appears to have abandoned large quantities of equipment and ammunition as it withdrew from areas it had held since the first weeks of the war.

A Russian battle-tank maker has switched to "round-the-clock" production after these setbacks, according to reports.

Workers at Uralvagonzavod in Nizhny Tagil, Russia's largest armoured vehicle manufacturer, have reportedly not been allowed to go on vacation due to the "production necessity".

Reports indicate that over the last few months the Ukrainians have managed to put together three full divisions. One of those divisions headed the offensive around Kherson. The second had spectacular success in the North East......the third has yet to be deployed. Where are they?
My money is a central drive to retake Mariupol and Melitopol and break the land bridge between the Crimea and Russia. If this were to happen we'd see half the Russian army cut off from their supply route. Now, that would be interesting.

Day 208 of my 3 day war. It's actually going 50% to plan. The Ukrainians are retreating, just in the wrong direction.

Today Moscow announced that approx. 6,000 Russian soldiers had been killed and the Ukrainians had lost 100,000................So why does he need another 300,000 troops and threaten nuclear destruction? I think the real news is beginning to seep through, especially in the large cities. Putin is in trouble and he knows it. If NATO were to get involved the Russia military would be finished in a matter of days. Years and years of Russian threats have been now been shown to be empty threats. Bullying is all they have left...and of course, nuclear weapons. However, questions are being asked about the reliability of those weapons. The US spend one million dollars per warhead per year on maintenance. It is obvious that the Russians have never spent anything like that on theirs. Will they actually work? It doesn't take many of them to work to cause serious damage somewhere.
There is a Royal Navy Commander in a Vanguard Submarine somewhere in the world's oceans who is probably having sleepless nights wondering if he will receive the signal to launch. A Vanguard will carry 8 Trident missiles. Each one will have 8 warheads, so 64 in total. Each one will work.

Oh god.
