Shootings (and rocket attacks) in Israel today, reports of terrorists paragliding over the border, soldiers kidnapped and civilians being kept hostage at gunpoint. Always kicking off there but this sounds a bigger scale, Hezbollah warning Israel about their reaction,if Hezbollah do get involved as well it could start a war. Interested to see what Bidens reaction will be.

Should the Hamas/Israel war be a seperate thread now ?
Still some fighting in Israel today and more rocket attacks.
Hezbollah and Israeli army have exchanged rocket, mortar and shell fire in the north near Lebanese border.
Israel saying they had 600 dead yesterday, the number could increase, some foreign nationals killed at a music event.
Lots of people taken hostage including an Israeli general in his underwear, various Israeli soldiers and civilians.
Some amazing videos of Palestinians crossing the border wire when it had been cut in several areas (seen pictures of JCBs making gaps in wire)they were on motorcycles and in pick up trucks and cars, military bases overrun and the military in them shot and captured. Rows of Israeli tanks,APCs (looked like M113s) and other AFVs,I suspect the Palestinians burnt them out but that wasnt shown in the videos that I saw.
This must of been planned for a long time, they looked well organised and quite disciplined, armed with AK 47s and RPGs,they also used drones and at least one suicide bomb.

Israel now saying 1500 dead and 199 taken captive. Seems the Israelis lost at least a dozen MBTs and numerous other AFVs and other vehicles, the raid must have caused many millions of $$$ in damage as well as the cost in lives. Some graphic videos recovered from dashcams, traffic cameras and put online from Go Pros worn by Hamas fighters, lots of ambushes of Israelis in cars.

Reports of 2 Swedish football fans being shot in Brussels Belgium's Euro 2024 qualifier against Sweden was abandoned at half-time for security reasons after two Swedish people were shot dead in Brussels. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/10/16/20/76627391-12637199-image-m-63_1697483055967.jpgTwo men, both wearing Sweden shirts, had been killed in the street before the game in Brussels. Sweden players decided not to resume the game during the break. This decision was agreed to by their Belgian counterparts. A statement from Belgium said: "Due to the incidents in Brussels earlier tonight, play is suspended. Our thoughts are with all those affected." Journalist Samindra Kunti reported that the stadium announcer relayed this decision to fans but asked them to remain in their seats until security services confirmed it was safe to depart. The killings happened in the city before the game. The gunman fleeing the scene and is still at large. Prosecutors say they are treating the shooting as terrorism. Belgian police instructed Sweden fans to stay inside the King Baudouin Stadium for their own safety after the game was suspended. Brussels has been brought to a standstill after a gunman claiming to be a member of ISIS opened fire on a group of Swedish football fans - killing two people. The gunman is said to have begun shooting at the men as they passed through Boulevard d'Ypres just a few minutes north of the city's famous Grand Plaza. The men were wearing their national team's jerseys and were on their way to the match at King Baudouin Stadium. A third person is said to be seriously injured.

Brussels shooting: Police shoot man in hunt for gunman..By Gem O'Reilly, BBC News.

The man was shot in a café in the Schaerbeek neighbourhood, and it is unclear if he is dead. Two Swedes were killed and a third person injured in the automatic rifle attack on Monday, which took place during the Belgium-Sweden Euro 2024 qualifier football match. Brussels has been on its highest terror alert ever since. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31205406.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_Belgium-Shooting-23289764655278.jpgPolice and inspectors work in an area where a shooting took place in the centre of Brussels The gunman is believed to be a 45-year-old man of Tunisian origin who was in Belgium illegally, after having his asylum application rejected. He posted a video online saying he had killed people in the name of God and the prosecutor's office believe he was inspired by the Islamic State Group. Belgian Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden told Flemish public broadcaster VRT that the automatic weapon found on him was the same as the one used in Monday's attack. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, called Monday's shooting "a harrowing act of terrorism" in a press conference on Tuesday. It took place on Boulevard d'Ypres, some 5km (3 miles) from the King Baudoin Stadium. The prosecutor on the case has said the likely motive was the Swedish nationality of the victims. Mr De Croo said: "Perpetrators, they try to instil fear, distrust and division in our free societies. Terrorism. Terrorists must understand that they will never succeed in their intent."

One thing that always happens after these mass shootings is that gun sales go up as people want to be able to defend themselves, the odd thing is that when shooters go on the rampage there rarely seems to be anyone armed in the vicinity to shoot him.

and like a true idiot..unable to face up to his actions, decides to take his own life....coward!!! At least it saves the cost of a trial and the $millions for keeping him locked up for the rest of his life. They said on the radio this morning 'mental health issues',its like a code. I did laugh when the Police said that 'the fugitive was armed and dangerous' he just shot and killed 18 people so surely that was fairly obvious ?

Maine mass shooter Robert Card is FOUND DEAD in the woods with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head..by Aneeta Bhole and Harriet Alexander For Dailymail.com.Maine mass shooter Robert Card has been found dead in the woods with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head - ending a 48-hour manhunt involving over 300 members of law enforcement. Androscoggin sheriff's office wrote on Facebook: 'The suspect in Wednesday nights shootings has been located and is deceased.' Card, 40, was found near Lisbon, where his car was abandoned shortly after Wednesday's massacre. His body was reportedly located near a recycling plant from where he was recently fired. It was unclear how long he had been dead. Eighteen people died when Card, an army reservist who had suffered a recent mental breakdown, opened fire at a bowling alley and bar in Lewiston. Card went on the run, leaving his car and cell phone behind and sparking a 48-hour manhunt. 'So happy this nightmare is over,' said John Riordan, who lives near the scene. He told the Sun Journal: 'Hopefully the families can get some closure. It will be nice to get back to some state of normalcy.' i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31283122.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/1_US-CRIME-SHOOTING.jpgSearch teams on Friday were focusing their efforts on a river near Lisbon, where Card was known to moor his boat and jet ski. On Thursday, there were multiple raids at homes in the town of Bowdoin belonging to Card's parents, and his brother. Card spent 20 years in the Army reserves, and was a keen hunter and fisherman. His marksmanship and survival skills made him a formidable foe for those trying to track him down, and local residents were ordered to stay indoors from Wednesday night until Friday evening. A picture of Card's disturbed mental state quickly emerged. He had been fired from his job at a recycling plant, Maine Recycling, and had split from a recent partner. A colleague at a recycling plant told The Daily Beast he had behaved 'violently and oddly' towards co-workers in the last year. 'When I saw it was him, I was not surprised,' Jeremy Bowen, who was Card's driver-helper at Maine Recycling, told The Daily Beast on Thursday. A lot of the other helpers he was working with were starting to say he was acting violently and oddly. 'I heard about [the shootings] on the news, and like I said, I really wasn't surprised.' In July he was sectioned for two weeks after he said he was hearing voices, and threatened to open fire at his Army base. His sister-in-law, Katie Card, said he had been fitted with hearing aids and became convinced that he could hear people talking about him at the bowling alley and bar he would later attack. 'He truly believed he was hearing people say things,' she told The Daily Beast. 'This all just happened within the last few months.' She said he would 'get mad' when they told him the voices were just in his head. 'Things have kind of gone downhill recently,' Card told the Beast. 'We tried to listen to him and tell him that nobody was talking about him. 'Yesterday, as the story was unfolding, we prayed that Rob had nothing to do with this. But when we heard the two places where the shooting happened, my husband rushed home.'

Although I agree with you Maine doesnt have the death penalty... I wondered if states without the death penalty suffer from more murders than death penalty states.

DJ shot dead during live broadcast in Philippines..By Ece Goksedef, BBC News.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/240/cpsprodpb/C3CA/production/_131622105_adsz.pngA radio anchor in the Philippines has been shot dead while performing a live broadcast. Juan Jumalon, known as DJ Johnny Walker, was shot inside his home-based studio, police said. President Marcos Jr condemned the murder of the radio journalist "in the strongest terms". Four journalists have been killed since Mr Marcos Jr took office in June of 2022, the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines said. "The attack is even more condemnable since it happened at Jumalon's own home, which also served as the radio station," the union said. Mr Jumalon was live-streaming on Facebook at around 05:30 local time when the suspect entered the recording booth and shot him. According to local media, citing police sources, the suspect asked permission to enter Mr Jumalon's radio booth to announce "something important on air." Police say they have already secured CCTV footage in the area. Mr Jumalon's broadcasts are usually aired on 94.7 Gold Mega Calamba FM Facebook page, which has around 2,400 followers. The DJ's wife took him to hospital immediately after the incident, but it is understood doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Police said they were not aware of any previous threats against his life. The president posted on X that he has instructed the police to conduct "a thorough investigation to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice." The Philippines is one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists, says US-based Freedom House.

Ashley Dale: Woman shot dead after row at Glastonbury, jury told..By Andy Gill & PA News, BBC North West Tonight.i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31114019.ece/ALTERNATES/n310p/0_ASHLEY-DALE-NEW-PICTURE-1.jpgAn innocent woman was shot dead in her home after a feud between two groups reignited at Glastonbury, a court has heard. Ashley Dale, 28, died after she was shot in the Old Swan area of Liverpool on 21st August 2022. The prosecution told Liverpool Crown Court how Ms Dale's partner had been the intended target. Five men deny murder, conspiracy to murder and firearms offences while a sixth man denies assisting an offender. Paul Greaney KC, prosecuting, told the jury how on the night of 20th August Ms Dale was at home on Leinster Road when her car tyres were slashed, causing the alarm to sound. The environmental health officer did not go outside as she believed the alarm had been set off by rain. However, in the early hours of the following day, the court heard James Whitham kicked down Ms Dale's door and shot her. He has admitted being the gunman and pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies murder, claiming he shot her by accident. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31114023.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Ashley-Dale-death-court-case.jpgAshley's' sister, mother Julie Dale and stepfather Rob Jones arriving at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday Mr Greaney told the jury that Lee Harrison, who was Ms Dale's boyfriend but was not in the house at the time, was the intended target of the shooting. He told the court the background to the shooting was a dispute between a group associated with Mr Harrison and another group. Mr Harrison had a long-standing feud with a man called Niall Barry, which was reignited at Glastonbury music festival in June that year, the court heard. Mr Greaney said Ms Dale had attended the festival with Mr Harrison. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article31112884.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Ashley-Dale.jpgDuring the festival, a friend of Mr Harrison assaulted a man named Sean Zeisz, the court heard. Tensions between the two groups rose even further when a man called Rikki Warnick, who was known to both groups, took his own life in July 2022, the jury was told. Mr Greaney told the jury Mr Barry, Mr Zeisz and a third man named Ian Fitzgibbon were the organisers of the murder. He described Mr Witham and the fifth suspect Joseph Peers as the "foot soldiers" while Kallum Radford was the alleged driver of the getaway car. Mr Greaney said: "There can be no doubt that Ashley's death was murder. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article30782595.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/0_Julie-Dale_05.jpgJulie Dale, Ashley's mother, at a new memorial park bench"She was shot deliberately and mercilessly by a man who entered her home intending to kill." Mr Greaney also played voice notes recovered from Ms Dale's mobile phone to the court. He said they "provided a running record of Ashley's concerns, and those of her friends who were also caught up in the relevant events to some extent". He told the jury that listening to the notes would be upsetting "because we will be listening to the voice of Ashley herself, describing in her own way a dispute which the prosecution suggests led to her death". "It is distressing to listen to, but your obligation as jurors is to assess it dispassionately," he added. Mr Whitham, 41, of Huyton, Mr Barry, 26, of Tuebrook, Mr Zeisz, 28, of Huyton, Mr Fitgibbon, 28, of St Helens, and Mr Peers, 29, of Roby, all deny murder, conspiracy to murder and firearms offences. Mr Radford, 25, of no fixed address, denies assisting an offender. The trial is expected to last eight weeks. All 4 sentenced to 40+ years each for the girls murder, apparently they wanted to kill her boyfriend who was on a night out when the shooting happened, he was uncooperative with the Police and has been in Dubai since....
