Second favourites to go down at 1/2. As usual the battle at the bottom is closer and more interesting than at the top. Odds: Southampton 1/33 Everton 1/2 Forest 8/11 Leeds evens Leicester 6/4 Is it possible to hold prejudice against a City? I really want Everton to go down. errrrrrrrrrrr day do dat dont day.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 (Hwang Hee-chan 34) Everton 1 (Mina 90+9) ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/06B7/production/_129791710_gettyimages-1256432929.jpgEverton's fight to avoid the drop into the Championship will go down to the final day of the season despite Yerry Mina snatching a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time at Wolves. The Toffees looked on course for a damaging defeat until Mina pounced in a goalmouth scramble in the final seconds of nine minutes of additional time to give Sean Dyche's side what might prove to be a priceless point. Everton must now anxiously await how other results pan out to discover the full extent of their task when they face Bournemouth at Goodison Park. Wolves went ahead in a scrappy encounter after 34 minutes when Hwang Hee-Chan scored from a rebound after Everton keeper Jordan Pickford had pushed out Adama Traore's shot. Everton's best opportunities came with two first-half headers from Dominic Calvert-Lewin but they suffered a severe blow when the injury-plagued striker was forced to limp off with a hamstring injury on the stroke of half-time. It now rests on that crucial clash with Bournemouth as Everton attempt to avoid their first relegation from the top tier since 1951 but this may yet be the point that helps to maintain their Premier League status.

Everton investment: Toffees reach exclusivity agreement with MSP Sports Capital..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9A7E/production/_129805593_everton-main.jpgEverton have reached an exclusivity agreement with New York-based company MSP Sports Capital for investment in the club, BBC Sport understands. Sources have said the deal is not yet done but talks are progressing between the two parties over future funding. MSP look to have jumped ahead of 777 Partners, who have been in talks over a takeover from owner Farhad Moshiri. Everton are currently two points above the Premier League's relegation zone with one game remaining this season. However, the Toffees will drop into the bottom three if Leicester win at Newcastle on Monday 8pm. MSP are believed to be looking for a 25% stake with a preferential share structure, not equity in the club, so would be paid back in interest. 777 have had access to the 'data room' (financial accounts), but have not been prepared to pay a 'significant' price as they have looked at the debt on the balance sheet - which stood at £141.7m in the latest accounts. In February, Moshiri told the fans' advisory board the club was "not for sale" but he had been talking to "top investors of real quality". The club requires funding for their new stadium, which is being built on Bramley Moore Dock, after costs increased from £500m originally to about £760m. British-Iranian business Moshiri has invested over £750m of his own money since 2016, but some supporters are deeply unhappy about his ownership of the club. Toffees fans have held protests before some home games this season and have called for Moshiri and the board to leave the club. It is understood MSP will likely expect representation in the boardroom if they do complete their minority investment in the club. An exclusivity agreement is described as a document in which a prospective buyer and seller agree to deal solely with each other in anticipation of an exchange of contracts by the end of a fixed period of time. In this case, it protects MSP from being outbid by another party but it does not offer full protection from that happening outside of the specified time period. Who are MSP ?ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/15DCE/production/_129805598_msp.jpgSenior figures from MSP Sports Capital attended Everton's 2-1 home defeat by Southampton on 14th JanuaryMSP Sports Capital describe themselves as investors in sports teams, leagues and businesses that 'pursue ambitious, challenging tasks'. Their current portfolio includes European clubs such as Brondby in Denmark, Augsburg in Germany and Estoril of Portugal. Their chairman, Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi, is the vice-chairman of McLaren and also a minority owner of NBA team Phoenix Suns. He attended the defeat to Southampton in January at Goodison Park and his net worth was valued at £2.9bn by the Paddock Magazine in 2021. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/13773/production/_129813797_everton-flag2.jpg

Abdoulaye Doucoure: Everton trigger one-year contract extension..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2F16/production/_129845021_doucoure-main.jpgEverton have triggered a one-year option to keep midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure at the club until the end of the 2023-24 campaign. The 30-year-old was out of contract this summer but the Toffees have exercised the choice of a further year. Doucoure has made 94 appearances and scored nine goals since joining from Watford for £20m in 2020. The Mali international will be aiming to help Everton remain in the Premier League in Sunday's final game. Sean Dyche's side are currently two points above the relegation zone and host Bournemouth at Goodison Park. Doucoure fell out of favour under former manager Frank Lampard but has played an integral role under Dyche, netting four goals in his last nine games. He told BBC Sport in March: "I always wanted to be in the Premier League and I want to stay much longer here. It is the best league for Muslims to be in."

SUNDAY 28TH MAY 2023 - FA PREMIER LEAGUE RESULT...By Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Goodison Park.
EVERTON 1 (Doucouré 57) AFC Bournemouth 0ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1440/cpsprodpb/17533/production/_129893559_1cf9a38946b59b67a3060eaacd131f70fa61bc9f.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/13271/production/_129894487_gettyimages-1258248284.jpgAbdoulaye Doucoure's second-half strike guaranteed Everton's Premier League survivalEverton secured the win they required against Bournemouth to ensure Premier League safety on an afternoon of nerve-shredding tension at Goodison Park. Sean Dyche's side knew victory would guarantee survival irrespective of events elsewhere, but for a time they were in the drop zone as they struggled to break down Bournemouth and Leicester City were beating West Ham United. Everton finally ended the deadlock after 57 minutes as Abdoulaye Doucoure sparked an explosion of elation and relief inside an emotionally-charged Goodison Park with a powerful right-foot finish from 20 yards that gave Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers no chance of saving it. As the tension mounted, Everton survived a couple of Bournemouth near misses and an agonising 10 minutes of stoppage time before they could confirm they would be extending their 69-year stay in English football's top tier. Everton escape againThe celebrations among Everton fans at the final whistle were understandable, having been put through the wringer once more in being made to wait until the season's final game to confirm Premier League safety - they only got over the line in the penultimate match last term. And it did not take long for loud chants of "sack the board" to sweep around Goodison Park as the fractured relationship between supporters and the club's hierarchy bubbled to the surface once again. The brief moment of joy and relief at full-time did not disguise the ill-feeling, with the Everton board having not attended a home game since January, citing safety concerns. As for the game itself, it was a predictably scrappy affair on an occasion riddled with nerves - frustration mounting as Everton faced the drop with Leicester winning and Bournemouth holding firm. It took that moment of magic from Doucoure to keep Everton in the top flight, but unless there are serious changes at the top of the club and Dyche can somehow improve a squad that has struggled so badly this season, then there is every chance they will face similar struggles next season. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/18091/production/_129894489_gettyimages-1258247621.jpg

I was pleased with how the team worked. There's a lot of work to be done. But I'm really pleased. "We brought a group of players together and I'm learning about the club. The fans care deeply. They know the club isn't where it wants to be but it's a team in a massive transition and we need to build on what we have achieved this season. "I said it was fantastic in many ways and to enjoy the moment but don't forget that overall for the season it's disappointing. We need to demand more, recruit more and everything. There's so many things here. There's a lot of work that needs doing. "I reminded the players of a good half and that the main thing was getting bodies in the box and having the belief to score a goal. We didn't progress too much in the second half because we found a magical moment then it was nervy after that. "The players dealt with it in a different way. It was very difficult. I'm pleased that this side have been able to show a different way to win. They dug in. We have found wins. There's been a lot of good but there's a massive amount of work to be done. "Yeah, Abdoulaye Doucoure has been terrific and a threat for us. We've been misfiring up front but he's been getting in the right areas and has popped up with a massive goal. "I feel there has to be a real alignment. I don't think the club is ready to be thinking about the big stuff. We need to recruit well. All those things are not for this moment in time but I have it all up there."

Everton escape relegation: 'Reboot needed or it will be temporary reprieve'..By Phil McNulty, Chief football writer at Goodison Park.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/4CCB/production/_129895691_evertonfans.jpgEverton's fans basked briefly in their annual celebration of Premier League survival before the wider crisis engulfing one of English football's great old institutions burst to the surface at a highly charged Goodison Park. The facts of an occasion riddled with nervous tension were that Everton escaped their third last-day dice with relegation in the Premier League era with victory over Bournemouth - but the sub-plots were many and for a while this looked like the day 69 successive seasons in English football's top tier would end. It felt as if Everton would drop into the Championship as they demonstrated their lack of quality by struggling to break down Bournemouth at the same time as Leicester City led against West Ham United. At that point Everton were in the bottom three and a sense of panic was growing inside the stadium. It was in the 57th minute that Abdoulaye Doucoure wrote his name alongside Barry Horne in 1994 and Gareth Farrelly four years later as the Everton midfielder who saved the day with a spectacular long-range strike. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/18163/production/_129895689_premierleague.jpgThe goal was greeted with an impromptu firework display behind the Gwladys Street stand, the heartbeat of Goodison Park, and yet another explosion of the noise that assaulted the ear-drums and provided the soundtrack for most of this tumultuous afternoon. With the stands ankle deep in chewed fingernails, not helped by an agonising 10 minutes of added time, referee Stuart Attwell's final whistle brought an outpouring of joy similar to the one that greeted Everton's win over Crystal Palace that brought safety in last season's penultimate game. 'Change needed or Everton will be back here again'After the joy - perfectly understandable - came the anger, as Everton's fans voiced their discontent with the club's hierarchy with chants of "Sack The Board" sweeping around Goodison. As manager Sean Dyche said: "It was a horrible day for all concerned. There was no joy in it for me other than getting the job done." In reality, this was a celebration born out of failure, the failure of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale and the calamitous strategies that have brought Everton to the financial and footballing precipice. Everton got away with it this time but if there is not significant change at the top of the club everyone will be back here again in this parlous position next season. The board have not attended a game since January, citing safety concerns, Everton have been referred to an independent commission by the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial fair play and for a while here they were looking at the sporting catastrophe of relegation. It is fair to say positive news has been in short supply until this win. Chairman Kenwright's most recent intervention was an ill-advised and poorly timed "open letter" which focused more on criticism of the board by supporters rather addressing any of the poor decision-making and squandered millions that have characterised the Moshiri era. The relationship between supporters and board is fractured beyond repair and it is easy to see why, after all the talk of "never again" when Everton got out of trouble at the next-to-last fence in 2021-22 before a much-trumpeted 'strategic review' did nothing other than lead to an even more perilous position this season. There will be more talk of "never again" but it cannot come from the same people who have delivered that message in the past. There have been too many mistakes. Moshiri - who has reached an exclusivity agreement with MSP Sports Capital for investment, which presumably will be directed at the new Bramley Moore Dock stadium - is at the forefront. The investment must come with change in a boardroom that has not simply presided over stagnation but a decline that almost ended in the Championship. The empty seats in Goodison's directors' box cannot remain unoccupied but it is almost impossible to see a situation where the board can return, which is unsustainable. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/18091/production/_129894489_gettyimages-1258247621.jpgJob done for Dyche but what next for Toffees boss?Dyche has completed the job by keeping Everton in the Premier League but he also needs help with the squad - or their league position will be exactly the same this time next year. Everton relied on those few who have served them so superbly through the struggles right to the end, particularly goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who saved from Matias Vina as the seconds ticked down. James Garner did a top-class shift as an emergency right wing-back, while Doucoure's goal confirmed the impact he has had under Dyche following his exile under Frank Lampard. He not only scored the winner against Bournemouth but also got two in the 5-1 win at Brighton that gave Everton three points not many had factored into the relegation equations. Dyche struck a tone of grim realism as he sifted through the aftermath of Everton's latest escape but how he gets the assistance he clearly requires to avoid another season like this remains to be seen. What has been a constant throughout has been the magnificent backing from Everton's supporters, who packed the nearby County Road in such numbers before kick-off that traffic on that busy stretch had to be diverted. They do not deserve the suffering they have been put through yet again and their furious reaction once they turned away from the joy was a clear indication they do not think Everton's board deserves them. And their instincts are right. It is not a time for the "never again" soundbites fans have heard before. Everton need a serious reboot and fresh ideas in their hierarchy otherwise this will merely be a temporary reprieve. For this night, though, and for those pouring out into Goodison Road heading for The Winslow Hotel, the famous old Evertonian hostelry, they could savour the taste of something to settle shattered nerves after their club once again went to the very edge before stepping back.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin: Everton midfielder wants to leave and end 'nightmare'..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16DBC/production/_129882639_gbamin-main.jpgJean-Philippe Gbamin wants to leave Everton and end his "nightmare" at the club, according to the player's agent. The Toffees signed the midfielder from Mainz for £25m in 2019, but his spell has been wrecked by lengthy injuries. The 27-year-old has played only eight games, including six in the Premier League, and is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor. Gbamin still has one year left on his deal at Goodison Park but the player "doesn't want to come back to Everton". Agent Bernard Collignon told BBC Sport: "We will have to find another project for him. I am the one who chose Everton for him because it would have been a stepping stone to move on elsewhere. "There was interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and even Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign him for Liverpool six months before but now Jean-Philippe wants to go back to Germany." Ivory Coast international Gbamin was signed as a replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who had joined Paris St-Germain for £30m, but broke down in training after just two games and had to undergo surgery on a thigh injury. Former manager Marco Silva admitted his debut off the bench in the opening game of the 2019-20 season against Crystal Palace may have come too soon, after featuring at the Africa Cup of Nations in the summer and only having one week of pre-season. Everton physio Adam Newall said Gbamin had to be "reined in" at times during the rehabilitation of the issue that kept him out for nine months. He then suffered an Achilles injury in May 2020, which kept him out for a further 11 months. Having been out for 597 days, there was more despair following his third Everton appearance in April 2021, sustaining a knee contact injury in training which ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign. He played five league and cup games for Everton between August 2021 and January 2022, before spending the rest of the season on loan at CSKA Moscow and has featured 22 times for Trabzonspor this term. "It is unbelievable what has happened at Everton," added Collignon. "Jean-Philippe is so disappointed with everything that has happened and how things have not worked out for him. "The reason he suffered his initial injury was because he was not fit. That is why he got injured. They had to give him time and not rush him back into action. "The club should have let him play in reserve games to achieve full fitness and also to gain confidence so that he would be ready for the intensity of the Premier League." Everton secured their Premier League status on the final day of the season with victory over Bournemouth.

Conor Coady: Loan defender to return to Wolves after Everton reject £4.5m offer of permanent switch..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FFEB/production/_129951556_gettyimages-1494071015.jpgEverton have decided not to take up a £4.5m option to turn defender Conor Coady's season-long loan move from Wolves into a permanent switch. The 30-year-old made 25 appearances for the Toffees and scored two goals. The England international started for Everton when they beat Bournemouth 1-0 on the final day of the season to secure their top-flight status. However, he only played six times under Everton boss Sean Dyche, who took over at Goodison Park at the end of January. Everton also confirmed defender Ruben Vinagre will return to Sporting Lisbon following his loan spell at the club. "We want to sincerely thank Conor and Ruben for their impeccable professionalism and valuable contributions both on and off the pitch during their time with the club," said Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell. "We wish both players the best in their futures."

Everton directors Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles & Graeme Sharp leave board..By Shamoon Hafez, BBC Sport.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/89EB/production/_130070353_everton-main.jpg Everton fans protested against the club's board during the seasonEverton have announced chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, chief finance and strategy officer Grant Ingles and non-executive director Graeme Sharp have left their boardroom roles. The Toffees said interim appointments and chairman Bill Kenwright's future will be decided in the next 48 hours. Last month, Everton entered into an exclusivity agreement with MSP Sports Capital over investment in the club. Everton ensured Premier League survival on the last day of the season. A 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Goodison Park confirmed they would be extending their 69-year stay in English football's top tier. However, fans have been extremely unhappy at the running of the club and vented their anger with protests asking for the board's removal. The club's key decision-makers last attended a home game in January, having been warned of a "real and credible threat to their safety" following "threatening correspondence". The construction of Everton's new 53,888-capacity ground on Bramley-Moore Dock is well under way but has seen costs soar from £500m to £760m, for which owner Farhad Moshiri has been searching for investment. Talks over funding have progressed with MSP and it is understood the New York-based company will likely expect representation in the boardroom if it does complete a minority investment. The departing directors said in a joint statement: "We have all been fully committed during our time here and are disappointed to have made the decision to leave Everton. "We have worked tirelessly alongside our chairman in what has been a challenging period to deliver some of the most significant projects in Everton's history - projects that will safeguard and sustain the commercial future of the club for generations to come. "We are proud of the commercial growth projects progressed during our time on the board, including the construction of the club's new waterfront stadium. This construction project - the largest currently on site in the UK - is progressing at pace. "The club's partnership portfolio has also been increased and diversified, reflected in record commercial partnerships and the expansion of our work internationally." Kenwright added: "This has been a great board who have all worked tirelessly for the club, no matter what the circumstances. "My relationship with Denise has been known as one of the closest in football. I thank her for her many achievements, particularly her magnificent work in respect of our new stadium." Meanwhile, court records show Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is suing Everton, his former club, at the High Court. The claim relates to "general commercial contracts and arrangements" but the listing gives no further details. Ancelotti, 64, managed the Toffees between December 2019 and June 2021. The Italian's lawyers declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport.

'This is just the start' - analysis...BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty
Everton's boardroom changes were the inevitable consequence of years of bad decision-making that led the club into a second successive near miss with relegation from the Premier League and the complete breakdown of relations with the club's support.
It was a dysfunctional situation that simply could not continue.
Everton's supporters continued to throw their weight behind the team but now only chairman Bill Kenwright remains and the forthcoming announcement on his future must be confirmation he is out along with Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp.
The bottom line is that if, and it is highly unlikely, Kenwright somehow stays then the discontent and protests aimed at Everton's hierarchy will continue. It looks, however, that the increasingly untenable position of the chairman is about to end in his departure.
It is all the result of catastrophic policies at boardroom level and under owner Farhad Moshiri, who has now entered into an exclusivity agreement with MSP Sports Capital for investment in Everton, primarily for the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
MSP will want their own representation on the board and what looks like a clean sweep of Everton's boardroom hierarchy is under way,
The outgoing board have also presided over policies that have seen Everton referred to an independent commission by the Premier League over an alleged breach of Financial Fair Play rules - which the club strenuously denies.
Everton had to do something to clear the poisoned air around the club and inject fresh ideas to somehow avoid another season of crisis. This is just the start and it remains to be seen whether more big changes will follow.

Tom Davies: Everton midfielder rejects new deal to end 13-year stay at Premier League club..

Davies came through the academy at Goodison and has scored seven goals in 179 games for his hometown club. However, the 24-year-old, who joined Everton at the age of 11, has made just six Premier League starts across the past two seasons. "We respect his decision and thank him for his service and commitment," said director of football Kevin Thelwell. "We offered Tom a new contract but he feels he has reached the stage in his career where he needs regular first-team football and, as a result, he wants to look at alternative options." Davies, who won 23 caps for England Under-21s, became the youngest captain in Everton's history when he skippered the side, aged 20, for a 2018 Carabao Cup tie with Rotherham United. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/E428/production/_130180485_gettyimages-1486007545.jpg

Kenwright news 'unlikely to quell mood of rebellion among fans'..by Phil McNulty, chief football writer.ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/d556/live/23efe3d0-11b9-11ee-816c-eb33efffe2a0.pngichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16038/production/_130186109_gettyimages-1247484420.jpgEverton have finally delivered an update on changes to their board of directors long beyond the promised 48-hour deadline for an announcement – but the news Bill Kenwright will remain as chairman is unlikely to quell the mood of rebellion among fans. The early expectation after chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale, finance officer Grant Ingles and non-executive director and former player Graeme Sharp left the board was that long-serving Kenwright would follow. They formed a boardroom quartet whose relationship with the fanbase was so broken they have decided not to attend home games since January, citing safety reasons, amid growing protests among supporters, with Kenwright and owner Farhad Moshiri primary targets. Instead, Moshiri has joined the board and Kenwright survives for what Everton’s owner described as “an important period of transition” as incoming investment is expected from New York-based MSP Sports Capital to secure more funding for the club’s new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock. It may well be that this is a boardroom holding operation until the MSP deal is finalised as it is expected they will understandably demand a strong boardroom presence in return for their investment but the continued presence of Kenwright is in danger of overshadowing the wider context. Everton supporters’ groups had already vowed to intensify protests if Kenwright stayed on and there is no doubt Moshiri has risked the further wrath of large numbers of fans by placing his faith in the 77-year-old, even if it may only be for a short period. Kenwright and Moshiri have taken heavy criticism for Everton’s current parlous plight after two seasons of near relegation and being referred to an independent commission by the Premier League for alleged breaches of financial fair play rules. If Everton’s statement was intended to calm the mood among discontented fans, early indications suggests it has had the opposite effect. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/7023/live/120fb250-11b7-11ee-85af-c5e32093fce8.jpg
