What a glorious sunny day in Horfield. The Long cold winter has been way too long. The pitch looks immaculate, and The Mem is pretty full. Really nice to see Gasheads stood opposite me in the old away terrace. The small number of Salford City fans in the east end of the South Stand certainly looked rammed in there, surrounded by noisy Gasheads. Wonderful noisy fans at The Mem, for the first time I can remember we had singing STARTING in the South Stand. There was a piece of audio heaven for a while, with Irene being sung from the South Stand, then continued from the North Terrace, and back again. Our beloved song reverberated around The Mem in perfect panoramic stereo. On to the game. I felt Salford City played really well actually, and for large periods of the game stifled our normal possession game. The first half, especially, they contained us very well and were effective going forward. It required an alert James Belshaw and a strong referee to keep Salford City at bay. They had at least one decent shout for a penalty. A soft penalty, but they have been given... Salford were a very good looking side, attacking with pace and an effective aerial attack. We did very well not to concede, a testament to the quality of our defensive unit. Only Josh Grant struggled defensively, but I like Josh and he adds more going forward. Salford City prevented Josh from making his usual runs up the wing, exposing his weaknesses. The first half was fairly even in the end, with Salford City the happier going into the break. I felt we did much better in the second half, and we were able to dominate possession and settled into our normal game which then started asking Salford City questions. As we approached the last twenty minutes, the game was balanced on a knife edge, in a situation where a draw was no good for either team. As always this season with this team, they never give up and you hoped that a late winner would come. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Up steps boy wonder Elliot Anderson with another individual effort to send The Mem into an explosion of limbs and noise. Oh, that goal felt so good!!!!!! I was slightly uncomfortable with the confrontation between the home fans and the away fans in the South Stand following the goal. Fully understandable, it was a super emotional occasion. Fair play to Salford City, their fans did not bite. Another set of visiting fans could have had a different outcome. Something for the club to think about, I guess. The segregation zone was minimal. I like the fact that the away fans are limited to the east part of the South Stand. Massive, massive three points for us, which just about keeps us on the tail of Port Vale. If we can win there on Monday then the automatics are on. Happy, happy days. UTG! Good report Rich. Yeh ,I too felt the "panoramic stereo". Gashead Acoustic Scientists!G.A.S. Josh of course probably felt the nippy tempo in the sunshine on his return.Agreed good player. Pleasing to see Thomas come on and provide the pass to Billy to score. We're a better team with Anthony Evans plays.Apoligies for stating the obvious,if indeed it is?It is to me.

Well done the team and JB. We did all we could and won. Need to do the same in the next match. PV and Exeter are making it hard by doing so well and will deserve to go up if they manage it. We need to keep playing well and prepare for the next match. Even if we miss out on automatics no one will want to play us over two legs and then in the final. But beat PV and automatics are a good chance. It’s always about the next match!! 👍

Still buzzing from the atmosphere at The Mem yesterday - it was something else! Great to see so many families there with young children too - maybe the future is brighter than we think?

Great to hear BG. Present fans with a good product, a winning team and they will come and watch. Looks like we’re getting very close to the capacity at the moment. Give them a better ground and the winning team and they would come in much larger numbers. UTG!

They would actually come in larger numbers if we had a different manager - don't forget the fans boycotting the club because of Barton. Don't forget its very much a divided club and we aren't singing from the same song sheet.

As a season ticket holder i attend regularly and during the pre-match and half time banter i have yet to hear anyone else who attends criticise Barton, other than perhaps for his team selection or tactics. I reckon that you could count those paragons of virtue who are boycotting the club because of Bad Boy Barton on the fingers of both yer hands. You give yourself far too much credibility.

I will add that i didn't intend renewing my season ticket for next season, (after following the Gas for over sixty years), but after seeing the effort and commitment that bad Boy Barton has instilled into the team again on Saturday, i feel i have no option other than to change my mind.

Don't forget its very much a divided club and we aren't singing from the same song sheet. As others have said, the numbers boycotting are probably very few. But my point was about our recent crowds being near to capacity so that not many more can actually get tickets. So we need the new ground to enable the club to grow, give fans a winning team and a better ground they will come in their numbers. Irrespective of who the manager is, although if it’s a winning team then he’s likely to be a decent manager. UTG!

Divided club? Err.. what rationale or evidence do you have for that? Other than a few people having differences of opinion on a minor message board.

No I don't think that's right.Anyone at the Mem for this game would see a club loving the promotion challenge. There are noticeably more youngsters and families attending. Although it's of course abit of a Rovers tradition for some Gasheads to moan like buggerry once the scent of success is in the air. The stupid get rid of Lennie campaign. The get rid of GC moan, just as we were challenging for promotion. These days it's Barton must go nonsense, from a few estranged Gasheads. Luckily it seems we now have a club owner that can see further than the end of his nose.

This club owner, that can see further than the end of his nose - he's the one that sacked GC, just as we were challenging for promotion. And he sacked BG at a point in the season that I wouldn't have done.

I didn't see or hear anythng yesterday that suggested it's very much a divided club, just a lot of happy people, enjoying good football. It would seem that there are new kids on the block now, happy to take the place of those who threw their toys out of the pram.

People come to watch a winning team. These things happen, especially if challenging at the run-in. It shouldn't be a surprise. I'm sure we've all had friends contact out of the blue, all of a sudden interested in the Rovers again.
Not hearing people not critise JB, other than perhaps for his team selection or tactics? [bit of an oxymoron, that] - That would probably be because those who attend, despite thinking he's a sh!t, keep quiet about it as they are there to support the team.
GC was sacked in December. I think most were surprised to see us sneak into the play-offs at that point anyway. If he had remained, and we'd sustained a promotion push, you can be sure the crowds would have grown.

GC wasn’t sacked in any way, shape or form. He resigned to take over at Mansfield.

Thank you Mansfield , GC produced one of the most boring defensive Rovers side I’ve seen in years , I been a season ticket for over 40 years & in his reign it more out of loyalty that I could be bothered to turn up & watch his style of football. I know he got results mainly through the exceptional striker ability at our level of JCH , but his style of football was a hard watch, not surprised in the least that he didn’t last long at Mansfield.

I don't think we'll ever find out exactly what went on there. I'd still say the point remains that the club owner has made hasty decisions over his time.
