Aussie Meg Lanning is the big key to the Aussie machine, restrict her and the English have a bloody good chance of emulating their 2017 success Yes, A big well done to our ladies, showing the men right up on how to play the beautiful game. Listened to it last night from 2am start, fell asleep at 4am, listened a bit more, fell asleep again, but caught the last 15 overs and a great victory. We were dead and more or less out after 3 defeats in a row, but what a comeback to reach the final against those Aussies. Heather Knight's side will meet the all-powerful Australians at the Hagley Oval on Sunday (02:00 BST) in what promises to be a grandstand finale to a superb tournament.

England will attempt to win a second successive Women's World Cup when they face Australia in Sunday's final.
No England senior women's or men's team has successfully defended a World Cup.
Heather Knight lifted the trophy on home soil in 2017 and is set to become the first player to lead England in two 50-over World Cup finals.

Not to be, Aussie scoring a record score of 356 in their 50 overs putting the England ladies under pressure from the off, needing 7 runs an over from the start..falling 71 runs short with 285, a score no mean feat in itself

I watched from 2am, but watching their huge opening stand of 160 sent me asleep a couple of times, waking with one eye open to check the score. Watched our innings not expecting any challenge really, but was entertained with a good go at it, they can be proud of their contribution to a very good final.

Women's T20 World Cup 2023: Players to watch, predictions & how to follow on the BBC..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/16DA4/production/_128540639_t20onestowatch.pngHosts: South Africa Date: 10th-26th February Coverage: Ball-by-ball Test Match Special commentary on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sport app. Live text commentary and in-play video clips on the BBC Sport website and app The Women's T20 World Cup starts on 10th February, with world-beaters Australia looking to defend their title from 2020. England have only won the trophy once, in the first edition of the tournament in 2009. Can they knock favourites Australia off the top spot? Or will ever-improving India win their first world title? BBC Sport have teamed up with former England spinner and BBC Test Match Special pundit Alex Hartley to get her predictions and players to look out for. What is the format?
The format is simple: 10 teams, two groups of five. Each side plays four group games between 10 February and 21 February. The top two in each group go through to the semi-finals (23rd & 24th February), with top of Group 1 playing second in Group 2 and vice-versa. The final takes place on Sunday, 26th February. Women's T20 World Cup begins..The Women's T20 World Cup gets under way today the 10th February in South Africa.ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/2/9/26805f6f-ce92-4923-a2da-5557170f5ffd.pngAustralia head in to the competition as strong favourites, having won five of the past six editions. But Heather Knight's England are also in good shape, buoyed by a recent clean sweep against West Indies and under the stewardship of new coach Jon Lewis. England face West Indies in their first game on 11 February, with India, Ireland and Pakistan making up the rest of their group. Lewis has selected a 15-player squad for the tournament. Heather KnightAge: 32 | Born: Rochdale | Role: Captain & middle-order batter ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/1/26/69d59abf-1767-417e-bebb-3c67c1e0d911.pngEngland's rock, their leader and most consistent batter. Heather Knight's importance to this England side was most glaring when she wasn't in it last summer, when an inexperienced side slumped to a 3-0 ODI defeat at home to India. In her first year as captain, Knight led England to World Cup glory on a memorable day at Lord's against India in 2017, but the T20 title is one that has so far eluded her. During the last competition in 2020, Knight became the first England player - male or female - to score an international century in all three formats of the game. A more traditional batter, not particularly known for her power, Knight is the glue that holds England's line-up together in the middle order. Knight was offered a place at Cambridge University but turned it down so she could have more time to play cricket, instead opting to study in Cardiff.

ICC WOMEN'S T20 WORLD CUP - Venue: Six Gun Grill Newlands, Cape Town1st Game Opener - 10th February.South Africa v Sri Lanka - 5pm Sri Lanka 129-4 (20 overs) South Africa 126-9 (20 overs) Sri Lanka Women win by 3 runs ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka shock hosts South Africa in World Cup opener..ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/2449/production/_128598290_celebrate.jpgAn inspired bowling performance from Sri Lanka produced a shock win over hosts South Africa in the opening match of the Women's T20 World Cup in Cape Town. In a tense finish, South Africa needed 13 to win from the final over in pursuit of 130 for victory, but buckled under the pressure to fall three runs short. Spinner Inoka Ranaweera took 3-18 as a packed Newlands crowd was silenced. Sri Lanka's first-innings total of 129-4 was set up by captain Chamari Atapattu's 68 from 49 balls and 17-year-old Vishmi Gunaratne's supporting 35. Sri Lanka started slowly, reaching just 28 after the powerplay after a fearsome opening spell from quicks Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail, but Atapattu and Vishmi added 86 for the second wicket - Sri Lanka's highest partnership for any wicket in T20s against South Africa. It still seemed a below-par total but Sri Lanka, who have not played an international match since October, used the conditions to their advantage with their spinners taking seven of the eight wickets to fall on a slow pitch with big boundaries. The momentum shifted throughout South Africa's chase, with captain Sune Luus looking to steer her side to victory before she was crucially stumped for 28 in the 19th over. But for South Africa, the impact of the defeat in front of a home crowd was evident as the last-wicket pair of Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba sunk to their knees in dismay.

England 138-3 (14.3 overs) N Sciver-Brunt 40no, Dunkley 34, Knight 32no, Henry 2-30 England Women win by 7 wickets England demonstrated their new aggressive style in superb fashion as they powered to a seven-wicket win over West Indies in their opening game at the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa. Pre-match conversations have been dominated by the new approach and England raced to their target of 136 in 14.3 overs in a devastating show of power, innovation and skill in the scorching heat of Paarl. Opener Sophia Dunkley epitomised the approach with a blistering 34 off 17 balls, while Alice Capsey hit three boundaries in her 13. Nat Sciver-Brunt finished 40 not out and captain Heather Knight 32 as the pair made an unbroken 67 to guide England home with 33 balls to spare. West Indies made 135-7 from their 20 overs with opener and captain Hayley Matthews making an impressive 42 off 32 balls, while Shemaine Campbelle also added 34. World number one bowler Sophie Ecclestone claimed 3-23, while Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Sarah Glenn both claimed one each, alongside two run-outs in a solid fielding performance by England. England face Ireland in their next game on Monday (13:00 GMT), while West Indies play India on Wednesday.

ICC WOMEN'S T20 WORLD CUP - Saturday 11th February 2023 - New Zealand Women won the toss and decided to field.Australia 173-9 (20 overs) Healy 55, Lanning 41, Perry 40, A.Kerr 3-23, Tahuhu 3-37 New Zealand 76 all out (14 overs) A.Kerr 21, Bezuidenhout 14, J.Kerr 10, Gardner 5-12 Australia Women win by 97 runs ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/A884/production/_128604134_gettyimages-1247042751.jpgAustralia made an ominous start to their Women's T20 World Cup campaign by thrashing New Zealand by 97 runs. After setting an imposing target of 174, the two-time defending champions bowled out the White Ferns for 76. Megan Schutt dismissed Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine for golden ducks in the first over before spinner Ashleigh Gardner took 5-12. Opener Alyssa Healy hit 55, captain Meg Lanning a majestic 41 and Ellyse Perry 40 in Australia's 173-9. The world-class trio laid a platform, meaning Australia still reached their large total despite losing 5-19 in the closing overs. They leap straight to the top of the Group A standings, above Sri Lanka who beat hosts South Africa on Friday. The huge margin of New Zealand's defeat severely dents their hopes and boosts the chances of the Proteas, given the damage inflicted on the White Ferns' net run-rate which will separate teams who finish level on points. England began their tournament with an impressive seven-wicket win over West Indies earlier on Saturday.

ICC WOMEN'S T20 WORLD CUP - Sunday 12th February 2023 - Results.. Six Gun Grill Newlands, Cape Town - Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat.Pakistan 149-4 (20 overs) Maroof 68no, Naseem 43no, Radha 2-21 India 151-3 (19 overs) Rodrigues 53no, Verma 33, Ghosh 31, Sundhu 2-15 India Women win by 7 wickets ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/9CFE/production/_128609104_gettyimages-1465319357.jpgJemimah Rodrigues' unbeaten 53 from 38 balls led India to a seven-wicket win over rivals Pakistan in their opening Women's T20 World Cup fixture. Chasing 150, Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh added 58 for the fourth wicket to steer India to victory. Pakistan were eyeing a shock victory, with India needing 28 from the final three overs. But their bowlers struggled for control at the death as India reached their target with an over to spare. Pakistan's impressive total of 149-4 was set up by an entertaining partnership of 81 from 47 balls between captain Bismah Maroof, who hit an unbeaten 68, and 18-year-old Ayesha Naseem's unbeaten 43 from 25 balls. Favourites India were ragged in the field, particularly when put under pressure by the dynamic Naseem, who was dropped twice on 35 and 36. Despite a poor finish in the field, India started their chase brightly with Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Verma striking 33 from 25 balls before she was brilliantly caught on the long-off boundary by Sidra Ameen. Momentum shifted towards a shock Pakistan victory when captain Harmanpreet Kaur fell for 16 with India 93-3. But 19-year-old Ghosh smashed three fours from the 18th over, followed by three more from Rodrigues in the penultimate over to secure an eventually comfortable win.
