West Ham footballer Kurt Zouma has said he is "deeply sorry" after disturbing footage showed him kicking his cat like a football across his kitchen floor.
The Premier League star, 27, is also seen slapping his pet in the face in the video obtained by The Sun.
His brother Yoan is believed to have filmed the incident inside the defender's £2m mansion before posting it to Snapchat on Sunday afternoon, just a day after Zouma appeared for West Ham in the FA Cup.
The French international is filmed in his kitchen picking up the cat before dropping it and booting it into the air across the kitchen.
He is also seen chasing the Bengal cat around his dining room in front of a child while the cameraman is heard laughing.
The £30m former Chelsea player is then filmed throwing a pair of shoes at the animal as it tries to escape.
A final clip shows him slapping the cat in the face and out of the child's arms.
Zouma has since issued an apology for the attack and insisted it was an isolated incident.
In a statement sent to Sky News, he said: "I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret.
"I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
"They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again."
A statement from West Ham United said: "West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.
"We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals."

Take the poor animal away from him, and ban him from owning pets again. What a lovely family, they sound.

What a repugnant individual. West Ham, and especially Moyes, have gone down in my estimation, after picking this pond life, especially as the incident is so current. Hopefully, some of the sponsors will take some action, which might shake up the likes of Karenn Brady, their rent a quote director.

More than 150,000 people have signed a petition calling for Kurt Zouma to be prosecuted for kicking his cat - as West Ham's decision to play him in their Premier League match last night has been branded "disgraceful".
It has led to a petition on Change.org, started by Anti Animal Abuse, which demands the prosecution of "the perpetrators of this heinous act" and urging the RSPCA to "remove all animals from Zouma's 'care' immediately".
Despite fierce criticism of Zouma's actions, West Ham manager David Moyes still named the defender in the club's starting 11 for Tuesday's 1-0 win at Watford.
Zouma was booed by Watford fans during the match.
Experience Kissimmee, West Ham's official destination partner, has said it "will be evaluating our relationship and sponsorship with the club" after Zouma was selected.
Becky Thwaites, head of public affairs at national pet charity Blue Cross, said: "We were very disappointed to see West Ham make the decision to play Kurt Zouma last night.
"In our view it normalises his abhorrent behaviour and delivers the message it's acceptable to treat a family pet that way.
"It gives the impression to young football fans watching last night that it doesn't matter what he did to his cat, all that is important is football.
"We work with children all over the country to help them be safe around pets and learn to show them love and respect. Anyone in a position of influence, like Zouma, should be doing the same.
"We reiterate our full support for prosecution for cases like this, and for all animal cruelty."
I want this despicable human being removed ASAP from by boyhood team, there is no place for him in the team, his place will become untenable.

Latest Breaking News From The BBC:
Animal charity the RSPCA has taken West Ham defender Kurt Zouma's pet cats away after videos emerged on social media of him kicking and slapping one of them.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is liaising with Essex Police about the incident.
"The two cats are now in RSPCA care," said a charity spokesperson.
The Premier League club say they have fined Zouma "the maximum amount possible" and the fee will be donated to animal welfare charities.
In addition, German sportswear firm Adidas has ended its deal with the 27-year-old.
"We have concluded our investigation and can confirm Kurt Zouma is no longer an Adidas-contracted athlete," said the company.
The quicker WHU remove this player from the club the better.

It looks like a poor sideways pass to me, one of those where a gentle push is all that's needed, but he put too much on it and the slippery surface did the rest. He doesn't play for West Ham for nothing, a club where brawn is is more important than brain under Moyes. When's the court case?

On the petition site called change.org they have got over 240k signed for the removal of the cats and for KZ to be prosecuted. I would like to think that the WHU hierarchy will suspend him so he cannot be picked by Moyes to play anymore. They either terminate his contract ASAP and pay him off, or keep him until the summer and sell him out of the club.

A second West Ham sponsor has withdrawn its support for the club as the backlash continued over a video showing the defender Kurt Zouma dropping, kicking and slapping one of his cats.
Experience Kissimmee, the tourism authority for Osceola County, Florida, had been evaluating its relationship with West Ham since Zouma was selected to start Tuesday’s game against Watford after the footage went viral.
“Experience Kissimmee announced today that it has ended its sponsorship of West Ham United Football Club,” the club’s destination partner said in a tweet.
Its move comes after Vitality, West Ham’s wellness partner, suspended its sponsorship “with immediate effect”, saying it was “hugely disappointed” with the judgment shown by the club in response to the video.
West Ham said on Wednesday that they had fined Zouma “the maximum amount possible” – understood to be two weeks’ wages, amounting to £250,000 – and have condemned his behaviour.
The RSPCA has taken Zouma’s two cats into care and is conducting an investigation. The player, who has apologised for his actions, has lost his Adidas footwear sponsorship.
**Just think, a few days ago the poor boy who is very remorseful was living a peaceful life in his mansion and now his boat has been upended.**

Breaking News: 16.13pm
Kurt Zouma's brother, Yoan, has been banned by Dagenham and Redbridge following his role in the video that showed the West Ham player kicking his cat.
A club statement said: "The Club would like to give a further update on its player, Yoan Zouma.
"Yoan was this week contacted by the RSPCA to assist in their investigation and is fully cooperating with them.
"However, Dagenham & Redbridge FC would again like to reiterate that it condemns any form of cruelty towards animals and fully understands the reaction of many of its supporters.
"The Club has therefore decided that until the RSPCA has completed its investigations, Yoan will not play for Dagenham & Redbridge in any competitive match.
"Any further action deemed necessary to be taken will be made at the conclusion of the RSPCA investigation."

LATEST - IS THIS GUY FOR REAL ?
West Ham boss David Moyes says Kurt Zouma is available for Sunday's game at Leicester amid the controversy of the defender being filmed kicking his cat.
"There are different views whether he should be available. We decided he should. I stand by that," said Moyes.
"I don't think a club could have taken action any quicker than they've done at the moment. West Ham have done a really good job," added Moyes.
"I'm not condoning him, his actions were terrible. They were diabolical but we've chosen to play him and we stand by that.
"We will get him some help. We are trying to do as much as we can as a club, as a team, to help him.
"Like people who maybe have drink-driving offences, most of them have to go to classes to learn the reasons and the damage that can be done.
"I think RSPCA are going to provide us some courses for Kurt to understand about animals and how to treat them.
"He's incredibly remorseful. Like everybody else, in life sometimes you need a bit of forgiveness. He's hoping he is forgiven for a bad action."

Some people seem to have turned on the club, with the same passion that they used to support it.
They`re so bent out of shape by events, that for them, even the most basic rule of law has gone out of the window.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham players have been angered to discover that Zouma is the club’s top earner, on £125,000-per-week.
The 27-year-old joined West Ham on a four-year contract in a £29.8million move from Chelsea in the summer, but his team-mates were in the dark as to how much he earned.
That secrecy has now been broken by widespread reports that Zouma’s £250,000 fine equated to two weeks’ wages.
Forwards Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko are understood to earn in the region of £100,000-per-week inclusive of bonuses.
Meanwhile, the report states that key players like Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, Pablo Fornals and Vladimir Coufal, are on ‘significantly less’.
The revelations could reportedly bring about a ‘mutiny’ over wages, with West Ham set to be inundated with players asking to sign improved contracts.

You can see why he`d be angry.
