Boring boring Australia, they just could'nt make it interesting could they and get out for about 200, no they have to grind our noses in to the dirt.
They will probably end up with a lead of 300 and that should be enough for an innings defeat, with 2.1/2 days play left.
The day will come when we have no Anderson or Broad, but while we have them BOWL them.

I probably would have played Broad. But even then, I`m not sure that he would have made much difference. Not in Australian conditions. The selectors will almost certainly play one of them in Adelaide. Possibly both.

Yes, this test can only be a draw at the very best, they have nothing to lose by putting in both of our greatest bowlers and see what happens, funnier things happen at sea.

England spinner Jack Leach should not have been selected for the first Ashes Test and has been given "a hospital pass", says Phil Tufnell.
The 30-year-old took the wicket of Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne but conceded 95 runs in only 11 overs on day two at The Gabba in Brisbane.
England opted for the spinner over Stuart Broad as a fifth pace option.
"I wasn't surprised they targeted him whatsoever," said spinner Tufnell, who took 121 wickets in 42 Tests.
Going into the game, Somerset's Leach had played 16 Tests for England, taking 62 wickets at an average of 29.98.
But he had not played any Test cricket since England toured India in March, with his last game being for his county back in September.
"He got a little bit of the rough end of the stick - to be slung in on a green top in Brisbane," added Tufnell.
"There were four left-handers in the top seven and they decided to just come out, play some shots and put him under pressure from the off.
"He's England's best available spinner, but he shouldn't be playing," stressed Tufnell. "Stuart Broad should have been playing instead of Jack Leach.

Realistically , England need to bat all day on D4, amass +320 more with Jack Leach getting a 50 đź¤.... And see if the A can resist a hell fire assault on D5 without panicking to get a result...wierd game...

It now looks like we will make the Aussies bat again, but how big the score will be to win is hard to predict.
If we bat on day 4 for the 90 overs at say 3 an over that's 270, less the 58 behind now = 212 on the final day.
Root and Malan need big hundreds, Stokes, Pope & Buttler 150 between them with a wagging tail to have any chance.
At least as it stands it has become exciting again, can we expect good old English grit, who knows.

To go to Australia and not play a single warm-up game is proving to be a criminal decision. How did the ECB ever agree to that? The last time England won a series there they played three games against State teams before the first Test. Stokes is just not fit and shouldn't be playing. Leach will never be a Test match spinner as long as he has an hole in his arse. Bowling Wood for 20+ overs will break him. Overton has to p!ay in the next Test, plus one of Anderson/Broad. Why oh why didn't England go round the wicket to Warner from the start? Listening to the Aussie commentators on BT Sport is making my ears bleed. Come back Sky. It's depressing. Very unfair on Jack Leach but spot on with the comment about preparation and warm up games. Im not sure who is responsible for the warm up schedule, or lack of one, the ECB should have insisted upon some proper matches but Australia were likely to fight against it with their Covid protocols. Looks like Australia Cricket won that argument. Let’s face it with that preparation and their first day showing most of the batsmen would “never be Test match batsmen as long as..... hole in....arse.” And Leach’s record is ok but having not played any competitive cricket since September and no warm up games it was, as Phil Tufnell said “being thrown under a bus.” With all their left handlers I’m afraid Root showed his tactical naivety. But perhaps it may well turn on the last day, we’ll see. I like Overton but on Australian wickets I think Wood and Robinson are better choices with their pace. Overton has sacrificed pace for control and swing in the last few years and is a fine bowler but on hard Australian wickets I’m not sure. Not playing Anderson and Broad esp was a very strange choice which has backfired spectacularly unfortunately. Better day 3 but England will need to bat throughout day 4 to salvage anything and with the new ball due the first hour will be crucial.

I don't think I'm being too harsh on Leach. Even on a spinning spitting wicket I don't think he is able to bowl a team out.
At the end of the Aussie innings if someone had said that after our second innings we would leave them a target of 150 runs England would have taken that. Now there is the possibility of a bigger run-chase. If England can stretch that to 250 it should make for a very interesting final day........It's still a big ask though.

I love bluetornados's plan. Were the players that good at defending their wickets, it might even have worked. I hope they keep me in suspense all night by doing so.

If we're still batting at the end of Day 4 it means it's gone very well indeed, which means it's likely to have been given a bit of tap at some point, and the lead would be closer to 300 than 200.
However, the new ball is due early and we're never far from a collapse even when the batsmen look set.
I make Australia huge favourites to win, and it would take something epic for us to get ourselves into a winning position and then take the ten wickets.
Here's hoping.

I agree, Australia are still huge favourites, but that's the beauty of sport, you never know what can happen. It's why we love it !

Who else would you have as an England spinner? And on the Gabba against too many left handers was a step too far for him after months without any competitive cricket. On the same wicket Nathan Lyon no wickets after 32 overs. Perhaps not the best wicket for spinners? On the bigger picture a crucial first session coming up. Lose only two wickets and remove the deficit we may in with a chance to survive. Lose many more and it could be all over effectively at Lunchtime.

Root gone now. F**k it, I`m off to bed. Pope out as well before you've filled your hot water bottle. What the f*ck is wrong with these blokes? You could get the impression that they couldn't give a flying f$ck! 3 wickets for 20 runs in half an hour. Not as if this is a one off, is it. Edit, I was being generous, they've added 14 runs. FFS!

Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Malan 82, Root 89 and Pope 4, Stokes 13 no & Buttler 8 no have to work their butts off now.
If they and a wagging tail can set the Aussies a measly 100 to win that will make some sort of challenge.
We are 28 runs behind at 00.30am.
