Be nice to get off to a good start. Win the toss, 300/5 at the end of the day. That sort of thing. Jonah. Be nice if we could have a good first couple of sessions tomorrow. Reduce them to 68 all out. That sort of thing.

Any fans watching England now know what it is like following Rovers. The occasional high but generally it's total misery. Burns out to the very first ball of the series. It`s a bit like 2006 in Australia ( ffs, was it really that long ago? ) when Harmison`s first ball of the series ended up at second slip. Set the tone for what was to come.

This is so much more to me than a second 'world cup' of T20 Test Match nations shouldn't even play. Yet that's what the ECB prioritised, and we're humiliated on the first day of The Ashes. We're a Test Match nation, and this is very disappointing. Can't wait for day two! Day 2 will be upon you very quick... And like when my brother used to hide behind the sofa when the Daleks appeared, that may be the best place to be 🛋️ 🏏🏏🏏😵💫

Not sure what Burns was doing with that delivery. It wasn't a good ball and if that were Cook or Strauss it would have been flicked away with ease to the square leg boundry.

We`ve developed a T20 mentality, towards the game.

I think you've missed the 0 off of the end of the first innings score they are likely to post. Have been watching the T10 series, teams have scored more in that than our hopeless bunch managed when they had zero time pressure. What is it with these players, tell them it's a test match and they instantly forget which way up to hold the bat. But there's good news, we won't be seeing endless replays of Harmison bowling to Flintoff at 1st slip any more, they'll be replaced by endless replays of Burns standing aside so that the ball can hit his leg stump.

Same old story, fragile England go out to face the age old enemy Australia and collapse.
Was looking good, we won the toss and elected to bat first, 0-0 then Burns....?
Some resistance from Buttler 39, Pope 35, Hameed got going but fell cheap.
Cummins bagged 5-38, Starc and Hazelwood got 2 each, all out 147.
Bad weather wiped out the 37 overs left in the day, ahh well another day another dollar.
Early start tonight at 11.30pm.

Admittedly, things didn`t go entirely as I`d hoped today. I`d have liked another 300 runs on the board. But I have every confidence in tomorrow. You wait and see. Wood, Robinson and Stokes, will tear through the Australian line up, like a dose of Omicron. Hopefully, we can then put our 70 run first innings lead to good use.

If you ever wanted proof kids, here it is.....Drugs don't work. I was in ( the city of ) Sydney in March 2007, a couple of months after the 5-0 debacle of that Ashes series, and I did a tour of the SCG. The tour guide was giving it all the anti-Pom mockery that he could muster, and after ten minutes of it, I said, "This is all very well, but we daren`t bowl too fast at you. If we do, you spend the next seventy five years whinging about it." To be fair to the locals, they did laugh.

Let take some quick wickets and keep it interesting. So strange not to have either Anderson or Broad taking the new ball.

To go to Australia and not play a single warm-up game is proving to be a criminal decision. How did the ECB ever agree to that? The last time England won a series there they played three games against State teams before the first Test. Stokes is just not fit and shouldn't be playing. Leach will never be a Test match spinner as long as he has an hole in his arse. Bowling Wood for 20+ overs will break him. Overton has to p!ay in the next Test, plus one of Anderson/Broad. Why oh why didn't England go round the wicket to Warner from the start? Listening to the Aussie commentators on BT Sport is making my ears bleed. Come back Sky.
It's depressing.

I still think we have a chance of saving this match. If we can bat through the first 45 minutes of our second innings, and then it rains for three days, we`ll be off to Adelaide all square. I think we`ll do even better there.

The major flaw with your cunning plan is being able to last 45 minutes!

The major flaw with your cunning plan is being able to last 45 minutes! But it`s not really 45 minutes though. For the openers to be out, and nine more batsmen to troop out to the middle and take guard, will use up the best part of half an hour. That leaves 15 minutes to bat out, which I`m confident we can do. Reasonably.
