all that can be said is many thanks to the dunford family for saving the club back in the 80s so hopefully higgs and co may be able to move on and start running the club as it should be dont know if anyone heard a guy on twentypences phone in after the game Saturday gave the hint that someone with money had approached the board offering to invest money but his offer was turned down. If this is the sort of attitude of the board it does sound like a closed shop.sounded like the guy had the details but was not going to let anything go. and even in the unlikely event of someone coming in and offering a take over i dont think higgs would sell, as he has far to much tied up in the new ground if it ever goes ahead.so where it goes from here f""k only knows If rumors are to be believed, the man in question is the current Oxford Chairman. He wanted to buy Birmingham City earlier this year as well. To do that, you obviously need to have money. Must have been a good reason to turn him away if true... companycheck.co.uk/director/915480706www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-city-darryl-eales-shelved-7379401

Is there any thing to be read into the lack of a mention of Barry Bradshaw in the statement? is he about to go? Statement from Geoff It is with great sadness that on Sunday 17th August I resigned as a director of Bristol Rovers for personal reasons. My family have been pressuring me to step down for a while. I did resign in February of this year, when the team was moving up the League 2 table, but I was persuaded to stay on by the Chairman and Toni Watola. Relegation was a great disappointment to me after nearly 30 years of service to Bristol Rovers, and I am still not over the pain of it. Nick Higgs and the board have my support in turning the club around. I believe they will provide a new stadium in South Gloucestershire, and return us to League 2, but they need the continued support of everyone to do this. I am sure they will succeed. The club is back in non league as it was in the early 1900's and that is totally unacceptable. The team needs solid and positive support and time to change to winning ways. It is so easy to get on their backs, but please give the players every encouragement. No-one can do a decent job without valued support. My participation over the last two years has dwindled to mostly giving financial support and I hope the board can find someone young and energetic to replace me. In Chris Jelf and Edward Ware the club have two people who can lead us to better things. They are prepared to work hard with Nick to bring about a change in our fortunes. It will not happen overnight, but please show patience. On behalf of my family, I thank my fellow directors, staff and supporters for their friendship and help over the years. To all Gasheads, please back your team in their hour of need. Positivity is so important. Thank you Geoff Dunford Read more at www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/dunford-resignation-1836165.aspx#UsKoqryuX4hv6MhZ.99

Geoff IS quite seriously ill . Has been for a good while, hence earlier attempt to quit. That is his reason for going, not because he has other fish to fry or because of a boardroom split. Personally, I agree with the sentiment that this may bring the club a step closer to a new era, but I do think those who feel the need to put the boot in right now, should step back a little and show a bit more humanity. For a while at least.

So what will happen regarding his shares? Will he be pulling the strings in the background? Or is that he just walks away. More questions than answers ! personally I can;t see how anyone other then Nick Higgs can pull any strings at any time, and he would be a fool to put himself in a position where anyone could. he owns 52% of the shares. and I presume that figure (a small, but clear, majority) is not an accident.

I wonder if GDs resignation from the board is the 'news' we were to expect from this week,or there is a statement regarding eg the UWE project?
I mean if GD is not to sell his shares then it looks like yet another step backwards!

Has he stepped down from the board of a football business that is just about to start construction on a 21,700 all seater stadium? Or a non-league club in it's death throes?

Good old Geoff, talking in riddles with more questions than answers as usual. I'm also guessing he's had a fall out with Barry now.
So, I guess the questions are whether he is keeping his shareholding, will continue to provide financial support and continue to maintain petty grudges against former friends?
The best thing all round would be a clean break. I do hope that his health holds up and wish him well in whatever battle he is currently fighting on that front - however his involvement in destroying the club the he professes to love means that I am nothing short of delighted to see him gone. (If he is gone, gone and hasn't just quit the board).

Please do not speculate on people's personal health and use emotive phrases like "broken man" or "what time he has left"
None of us know the facts and some things are deeply personal (or I hope they are).
Please keep your soothsayer excellence to footballing / stadium / financial affais of the Club, where many of us hang on your every prediction in our collective hour of need for encouraging news.

Problem with Dunford was he was submerged in his own arrogance at times and his comments post relegation proved that. Always thought his ways were the best ways when they drained the club of life and resources.
His spell as chairman wasn't a great success as he thinks and it was Ron who straightened a few things out and got this club moving in the right direction.
I think if GD had half the humility of his father and listened to the direction he was given then we as a club could have been successful.
Thanks for all you have done GD but personally I'm glad you have gone.

Hmmmmmmm If he is offering straight out £30m to Birmingham City, I presume he would have offered around the same amount to us (if true). Seeing as we have an asset worth £30m, we're obviously not going to accept an offer of £30m to (again, I presume) 'buy out' BRFC. Oxford do not have an similar asset of their own, hence why £30m was probably a good offer. If he was just talking about investing rather than taking over, like you I'm intrigued as to why that would be turned down.

To me it seems strange that he would walk away if uwe is going to be built. Especially if the bod are going to see a return. I'm expecting even more bad news regarding the stadium in the near future.
Regards to the man being ill I wish him a swift recovery back to full health.
It's nothing new in terms of Bristol Rovers and bod, I think most believe we need some fresh faces coming in with new ideas to help take the club forward.

Best wishes and good luck with the future.
I hope the reasons stated are the true reasons for his departure and that he is indeed in good health. Sometimes we need a reminder that it's only a football club and there are more important things.
