If the woeful Lee Mansell's comments in the Post are to be believed, and they have been published as fact, Rovers lost because they were too arrogant and underestimated Altrincham. This bunch of losers masquerading as blue and quarters players have absolutely no right to underestimate anyone they are so poor. Most of them not even up to Conference standard, all part of Clarke's pathetic off season acquisitions. If that was a root and branch overhaul of the club following demotion I would hate to see what light touch is. But the point is Clarke sent them out and he said he wouldn't allow any opponent to be underestimated, so he either didn't get the message across or the players didn't listen. Either way he is an absolute joke, his appointment was a travesty that cost us dear. For all of Ward's failings Clarke made it fatally worse. He won't get another job in football worth speaking of and should lose this one now. He'll only do further damage if that is possible. Can't see why the Board didn't see this coming - the off season couldn't have been any worse.

And who is going to pick the next manager? The same people who have picked the last 7. ![](http://38.media.tumblr.com/6912e40ee8be739aada94dc917947edc/tumblr_mt5fxakgHu1s9v5qzo1_400.jpg)

I can't disagree with this, the clue's in the title, he's supposed to managing these guys. If the players (after a draw and a loss) are taking conference sides lightly (or to quote Mansell "We turned up and thought, because we were Bristol Rovers, that we were going to turn them over. Altrincham had other ideas and they got two well-deserved goals from mistakes from us.") then the fault has to lie with DC.
That said, what's the alternative? When you're an ex football league team with a poor squad, big expectations and people storming the team bus after an away game I think you're struggling to attract a manager with credentials. At this point none of us know what 'success' in this league should be and there's every chance a decent coach would sully his reputation here even if he was relatively successful.

IMO Clarke should go soon or be kept long term for stability. Who would replace him ? 3 alternatives from me 1. Warnock and a younger assistant ( to replace him eventually ) of HIS choice. 2. Di Canio 3.Alan Dicks ( as the Joe Mercer sensible old head) with younger tracksuit manager of HIS choice. All very controversial ( silly ) and none of them would come to Rovers anyway, but we have got to start thinking outside the cheapo option.

That leaves AD+ Malcolm Allison type or Clarke

Yes, Clarke out now! Changing managers has worked so well for us so far. Next manager on 10 game contract and lets install a rotating door at the players squad entrance.
we should also higher security to keep the line of managers that are lining up to manage us in an orderly line and some kind of holding pen for the players that these managers are going to bring with them.
Lets do away with getting any future managers name printed on anything, just refer to them by their deli counter ticket number.

Joe was very old then but they made a successful partnership.

10 months ago i wanted ward out following a shambolic September and October and nearly got hounded off the AF. Still can't take any of theses threads serious and still don't believe any of the OTT s**te thrown at DC is genuine, plenty of new posters have popped up sharing the same venomous view.

Joe Mercer was never out of the game for decades like Dicks, does he still watch football,as for age it does not matter as long as your brain still works and your mobile

Still trying to work out what he did to get the job in the first place. He has done nothing apart from a half decent job at bloody Salisbury. This bloke is more clueless than Ward.

Still is on £250,000 a year and a million bonus per promotion. Beat that and he's yours I would say.
