Why aren't the media all over the chick who chipped her own keeper blaming her like they would a man? Why aren't the team getting a kicking for crashing out?Why is a man in charge of the team? Why is it all "well done girls, hard luck" DOUBLE STANDARDS . Patronising in the extreme. Ps I'm controversial, changed my username to avoid the hate. 1. When was the last time the national media went after an individual after the men's team went out of a international tournament? By my reckoning it was Phil Neville in 2000, they completely glossed over the Rooney sending off and went for Ronaldo so I don't really get your point there. Did the media go after Pearce and Waddle in 1990?
2. They reached the semi-finals, best performance by a senior side in a WC 25 years. It could still be the second best performance by a senior side of all time.
3. That's not even worth replying to.
4. Probably because they were unlucky? I mean they hit the woodwork twice, created good chances, didn't get the rub of the green and conceded a freak goal.
Just to add they did get a minor kicking in the media two years when they went out at the group stages. If that had happened again this year I'm sure, given the increased coverage, they would have received a substantial bashing in the media.

Yes, very cruel way to go out!
I much prefer club football and haven't really followed international football for a number of years, I tend to watch the Euros and WC for the sake of watching football, but I must admit I went to bed feeling as empty as I did in 1990 and 1996.
As for winning brownie points off the females in my life, my girlfriend hates it more than the men's game ("at least I get to see men running around in shorts") and her mum shares Controversial's opinion exactly and thinks I'm "bloody nuts" for watching it and can't seem to grasp I just love watching football regardless of the level!
Regarding Guardian readers showing how progressive they are because it's women playing football and it's receiving a lot of attention, I think when something gets a lot of media hype you get bandwagon jumpers regardless of political or newspaper affiliation. I'm sure there will be plenty of people today who know f all about football offering their opinions (which are usually things they've heard or read passed off as their own) on last night's game.

PS a Taylor who runs around a lot and works hard. Who'd have thought it? And a manager who is criticised for his 'tinkering'! Really enjoying this World Cup, the enthusiasm for the game is infectious!! C'mon England on Wednesday!

The editor's letter in Grimsby Telegraph is embarrassing and typical gutter journalism which attempts to make DC's "speech" an attack on Grimsby and rile people up, when in fact Clarke was drunkenly returning a jibe made by the paper back at them; like that playground lesson: don't give it if you can't take it, I am pretty sure the Grimsby Telegraph would have been quick to rub DC's nose in it over the premature celebrations after FGR if the Mariners had won on Sunday.
It seems from reading the comments under the "letter" that the Grimsby Telegraph doesn't garner much respect from some locals. It's irritating because DC has been very respectful in comments about Grimsby and there has been a mutual respect between us and Mariners supporters throughout the season. I would have preferred our promotion not to be at the expense of Grimsby but ultimately I wanted the Gas back in the FL and football is cruel mistress!
Anyway, the Gas are going up!! But best of luck to Grimsby, I hope to see them and Tranmere back in the FL at the end of next season!

I thought Taylor got his shiner from incident with keeper, I remember the commentator saying something about an eye gouge by Pearson(?) when he was holding Taylor's head... ten mins later Taylor's eye starts swelling up. Couldn't see anything myself from the replays. Both Puddy and Taylor seemed really riled up from the start, fortunately Puddy settled but Taylor didn't seem himself. Puddy should have seen red but given amount of decisions that have gone against us this season from crap officials maybe we deserved a bit of luck! Anyway, who cares, the Gas are back!!!! I thought that too at first, but the commentator was just guessing with his "eye gouge" comment. I replayed that incident today plus the penalty/dive one and it was definitely in the latter that he hurt his eye. No problem with it previously, but he hit the ground pretty much face down and started rubbing it straight after. (Sad to say, having replayed the first clash many times in an effort to find evidence that he wasn't play acting, it's clear that in reality he was. He took no blow to the face whatsoever. Put that along with the diving and it's not what I like to see in a Rovers player. Great that at last we appear to have real team spirit again, but I'd hope DC will encourage the players to be more honest in the way they approach the game in future.) Funny, just before I logged on tonight I saw a picture of Taylor landing on his face after the "trip" / "dive", so yes, you're right.

Nsala - I think would improve us or at least be a good squad player. I think (but I could be very wrong) that he's an Everton player out on loan to Grimsby ?Arnold looked decent, fast, good feet, eye for goal. Started at Everton, signed for Grimsby in 2014... (according to wiki)
