Bolton Wanderers have halted ticket sales for their first League One home game of the season against Coventry City on Saturday.
Tickets had been scheduled to go on sale at 09:00 BST on Wednesday.
Saturday's fixture is the first game Bolton will host since April, after their final home game of last season against Brentford was called off.
The Trotters, who are in administration and have not sold any season tickets, are yet to give a reason for the delay.
In a statement given later on Wednesday, Bolton said the game would still go ahead and they would issue a further update on ticket sales on Thursday.
It has been an uncertain summer for the club since their relegation from the Championship, with a protracted takeover yet to be finalised as well as having to start the season with a 12-point deduction.
A sale to the Football Ventures group was expected to go through before the start of the season, but remains unresolved.
Bolton's first match of the season against Wycombe had been under threat of suspension, until the English Football League confirmed the club had provided sufficient evidence of financial viability.
Before then, a trio of pre-season friendly matches were cancelled and players went five months without salaries - although it has been reported that contracted senior players received payments on Friday.
Interesting state of affairs!! what next? [bbc sports ]

Its a joke at what point do the EFL take some serious action? And that is the crux of it isn’t it? Were the EFL able to rewind I suspect for obvious reasons Bury would have been thrown out of the league. Bolton not so clear cut but if this Saturday is postponed then the EFL will have a decision to make early next week. To answer your question I would have thought that both clubs should be given a deadline of days to finalise their plans. Bolton to complete their takeover, Bury to show they are a viable club. If that fails they should cease to be clubs in the EFL. At that point it would be hard to find a league to accept them for this season. It’s a bit like Hereford 4/5 years ago, they would be in limbo for this season and find a lower league for 20/21 to take them and they start working their way back. At the heart of this is deciding if either club have broken enough rules to warrant throwing them out. The EFL I’m sure are scared of getting involved in a legal argument with legal teams from the clubs if it wasn’t clear cut so I’m not sure the EFL have the will to do anything that looks to be decisive. UTG!

Looks like a spanner been thrown into the works for Bolton's proposed takeover. THE EFL cannot allow this to continue so I fear the future of Bolton and Bury. A real shame for both sets of fans but it's amazing this has not happened to a club beforehand. See: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49286229

That'll learn 'em.

Proof you can not believe everything in the papers, and I had too much falling down juice at Blackpool to spot that.

It's ridiculous that he's been able to block the takeover. The court order surely has to be overturned. I can't understand how it was awarded in the first place.

We can confirm that today we have received an offer for the sale of Bury Football Club, one that we all at the Club believe is a very good offer.
This offer has been conveyed to Steve Dale and we are still waiting to hear from him.
This offer is the only lifeline for the future of the Club and we implore Steve Dale to accept it, as it has the full backing of all of the senior staff at Bury FC.
