What would you choose?
I’d have the World Cup personally.
I don’t follow prem football, I just follow rovers. However, here are my reasons:
- Rovers would struggle in champ and prob be relegated - we have an attempt every year to get up the leagues. International football, there might only be 5-10 world cups before I die, if I’m lucky - I am sick to death of all my welsh, Irish and Scots mates laughing at England. I’d love to stick one to them. - similarly, it’s really fashionable to do this country down and claim we are some insignificant island (remainers mainly). I’d love us to show that We are not helpless and impotent, and we are still a force to be reckoned with. - the whole country would be ecstatic. The economic dividend and optimism will help the country get its shoulders back. - I like the story of an underdog and Gareth Southgate is that. I also like the guy, seems like a fair chap. - ditto because he missed that penalty. It would be poetic to have him win the WC.
What’s your choice?

Club before country for me.
I don't believe we would just get relegated, I believe with the careful nurturing and correct backroom staff and management direction, our club can become an established championship outfit.
It needs investment. A little change. Support.
That would bring long term pleasure as opposed to just 4years..

Gas first. I am not bothered about London teams.

World Cup for me. Always believe that Rovers can/should/will get promoted but glory for England is an even rarer beast - Rovers have enjoyed a handful of memorable days since England’s last trophy in ‘97

Rovers promotion.
On your logic, if England won the World Cup, ‘we’d probably only go out in the group stages next time, so meh’. At least Rovers would have a year at a higher level, rather than a week-long buzz. I’ve never bought into ‘too soon to go up’. The idea is to improve and go up, even if it does take decades, and/or take a bit of yo-yoing as part of an upward trend. Give up on that and, well, what’s the point?
I’m happy that England has a decent team, with a sensible manager, and grounded players. I’m enjoying being impressive, competitive and not all p1ss and wind, but not expecting to win the thing. Anyone ‘laughing at England’ (this time out) is clearly a knob, and winning it won’t change that.
Plus, if England do win it (they won’t - probably), 10 league clubs will win promotion next season as well. I’ll have us as one of them, please. But, if it’s really a genie granting one wish thing... I’ll have the Gas promoted.

Rovers every time. Most England players would struggle to compose a single sentence about Rovers so we’re not on their radar. If we won the World Cup the Premier League would take all the plaudits and the FA would probably roll over and say what else can we destroy in football so you can earn more more for your league and then we would be able to win the World Cup again in 52 years time. I hope England win it but not at Rovers expense. UTG!

Rovers promoted The club having its moment doesn't happen for decades and its when the gold dust falls on you and its your time you have to grab it. E.g. Chelsea, Man City, Swansea, Bournemouth, Watford. Look at where they were. No reason why it shouldn't be Rovers. We are allowed to win

I’m hearing an extreme lack of patriotism... Patriotism has f**k all to do with it. You asked which people would prefer and some chose Rovers (Which I would as well btw)

I also like the guy, seems like a fair chap. - ditto because he missed that penalty. It would be poetic to have him win the WC. What’s your choice? If it came with a stadium Rovers all day

Having recently turned 65 and supported the Gas and NO other team in my life for over 50 years I would take promotion over the World Cup given that Rovers have achieved very little for too many seasons !

Got England to win World Cup( 16/1) rovers to win promotion( 25/1 )£10 e/w skybet extremely unlikely but if rovers finish 1/2/3 it’s 1/4 odds e/w and England ew 1/2 odds pays back £5072 in an each way double , 🤞

Not as straight forward a question than I thought it was at first. Can you imagine the reaction in Scotland? I might sacrifice a promotion just to see the looks on their miserable b*astard faces as Harry nets the winner in the World Cup Final.
