Not as straight forward a question than I thought it was at first. Can you imagine the reaction in Scotland? I might sacrifice a promotion just to see the looks on their miserable b*astard faces as Harry nets the winner in the World Cup Final. I’d be more interested in the looks on blatters face and all of his cronies who always seem to prefer anyone but us. What do we deserve, we only invented it, have the largest professional league in the world and the most competitive league on planet Earth. It’s not like we gave anything to the game, like Blatters Switzerland has :-)

And I’m sure the wee one up there would use that as another excuse to call for an independence referendum........”It’s not fair on Scottish football, we are being held back....etc etc”....any excuse will do for her. 😀

I was bullied at school, lived in Lockleaze was not allowed to go to Lockleaze comp as my uncle was station commander at the Lockleaze police station so was made to go to Monks Park, we moved to Rhondda. On my arrival at school I was informed that I was two years behind everybody, Well we moved to Thornbury in my last year of normal school and I took eight O levels, two of them on my won as Marlwood did not do those subjects (Archaeology and Technical drawing) I passed all eight. I then moved back to Wales. The comforts in my life have been the gas and the Love for two national teams, that of my birth and that of the nation I love. Rovers would get hammered if we got promoted next season and at best we would just survive, when we do get promoted I hope it is because we can at least hope for mid table. If it is good enough for Giggs to say we then it is for me as well. Come on England!

I’m English but in my career I’ve covered South Wales for more than a decade and I have real affinity with the welsh. I despise watching rugby and esp a lot of English rugby types. That boring, Guineas and real ale drinking crusty underpanted Middle Aged tubby types who seem to represent England rugby means I sort of like it when wales beat England. Sorry. I don’t really care but I like welsh rugby fans more than English ones. Wales are the only team I’ll support in international football other than England. Contrary to popular belief, there are a lot of South Wales football fans who support England in world cups. They often support English teams. I’ve worked with Scots and Irish and they seem to be beyond banter and seriously hate us . The welsh is more tongue in cheek generally. Most wont support us but it’s not that real annimousity I’ve had from Scots and Irish. More of a genuine friendly rivalry, and I just can’t feel any real hate for welsh teams. However, playing Swansea, Cardiff or Newport is genuine rivalry, but that’s not really nationalism. We feel the same about Swindon and other local (ish) teams. Bristol rovers has a long, long history of welsh players and their contribution to Rovers is intrinsic and a foundation of our history.

I'm English and laugh my head off when any of the other home nations lose. When Wales lose, the enjoyment is only heightened by knowing that every violent moron that follows Cardiff and Swansea is most likely stamping around in little circles and getting all stressed

When I were a lad (!) living in Scotland we'd go to the pub to watch England games and some scots would genuinely go out and buy the kit of the opposition and wear it to the pub to simply try and antagonise the English. If you questioned them on it they'd give you some BS about their girlfriend being Colombian, although amazingly she'd suddenly become Argentinian the next week! That was around '98 and in retrospect the wounds of Euro 96 were probably still gaping at that point. What a time to be alive and living north of the border that was... That said many scots are not quite as fiercely anti and we had some epic banter through the years and still do. Some even support England in the World Cup although I'd say that is a fairly small minority.

What would you choose? I’d have the World Cup personally. I don’t follow prem football, I just follow rovers. However, here are my reasons: - Rovers would struggle in champ and prob be relegated - we have an attempt every year to get up the leagues. International football, there might only be 5-10 world cups before I die, if I’m lucky - I am sick to death of all my welsh, Irish and Scots mates laughing at England. I’d love to stick one to them. - similarly, it’s really fashionable to do this country down and claim we are some insignificant island (remainers mainly). I’d love us to show that We are not helpless and impotent, and we are still a force to be reckoned with. - the whole country would be ecstatic. The economic dividend and optimism will help the country get its shoulders back. - I like the story of an underdog and Gareth Southgate is that. I also like the guy, seems like a fair chap. - ditto because he missed that penalty. It would be poetic to have him win the WC. What’s your choice? I'll take both thank you!
