As the anchor has its over -inflated prices and general monopoly of the mid part of glos rd and doesn’t really want Rovers fans in general in there coupled with the fact that pubs like the Vic have shut down can I ask for your support for the proposed new Wetherspoon on glos rd near to the coop please , it’s about time there is an affordable place to eat and drink pre and post match in today’s economy . It only takes a minute of your time on the link below. Thanks for your support planningonline.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=OZ3ZDCDNM4100

As patron of Glos Rd drinking establishments for many many years, this may be a good thing. Out of season too.
But my loyalties atm are to Sportsman as they ploughed monies into our club for years (esp during Glos Rd traders turned their back on us with Trash) and I see this as indirect competition.
Good luck with the petition, because if successful I and many others would use this at some point, but for now I feel I must use my Vito!

A Wetherspoons would be most welcome to shake things up a bit.

Btw you got any Benidorm trips planned for this year? 😉

Just what Glouces Rd is short of, somewhere for people to buy alcohol. another won’t hurt then will it? Actually what usually happens is that Wetherspoons then undercut the local competition by around a pound a pint, all the hardcore dipsomaniacs gravitate there and the longstanding pubs go under. Just look at Kingswood, where the Flowerpot shut last week, as an example. Plus they won’t have any football on their telly screens.

I want a spoons to be on Gloucester Road. It is the main road from North Bristol to town and yet there is not 1 Wetherspoons on Gloucester Road. I'm fed up with the overpriced pubs near the Mem too. The Welly is rip off and used to be affordable, Inn on The Green is rip off and Duke of York and I could go on.....

Did all you "wanters" use the Wetherspoons in Cheltenham Road? Seemingly not enough.

Pubs need to find their niche in the market, the Flower Pot tried to carry on as just a Pub. You can't just flog pints any more, because if people want a beer they'll stay in or go to a Spoons. You need to offer something else, be that sport, cheap food, good food, good booze or entertainment. Bad pubs are effected by Spoons, not good ones.

You have the Wetherspoons there, but also The Mail House, Red Lion, King Billy, Portcullis, Bar 501 even down to The Crown.
They all seem to keep going despite the Wetehrspoons

Are independent pubs all that over priced though? I know Spoons with their massive turnover and buying power can shift nearly out of date beer for £1.99 a pint but that's not on all beers. You would have to drink serious amounts of beer on a Saturday for the difference between a Spoons and a 'normal' pub to make a that big a dent in your pocket. I'd rather pay a bit extra and hope it helps keep different types of pubs open.

Although the anchor gets away with charging over £4 a pint thus pricing any pensioners out of going out for a social pint
