fings ain't wot they used to be From the other place: Playing budget 15th in league based on figs sent out by EFL some clubs in league budget around £9million! Circa £300k being spent on academy team wages etc which is viewed by club as in investment in getting players through to the 1st team. Contractors appointed for training ground but details will be revealed when planning application made shortly. Al Qadi family committed to club We are paying for an office in London for Dwayne [sic] Sports Wait for it - DC still thinks Nicholls [sic] will come good Harrison contract runs out at end of next season. Considering options re: ground Atmosphere: somewhere between "unconvincing" and "fairly positive".Link to Gaschat thread on AGM

FROM SOMEONE ELSE
It was said that that the club have to consider the impact on the local infrastructure if we build a 20k stadium on the Mem site and that doing it stand by stand presents its own challenges. They would consider building on a new site if that opportunity presented itself. I would expect the board to be viewing a number of options if they are doing their job properly and i have no reason to think they aren't. Also we all know how it all kicks off when Rovers announce any sort of development be it the Mem or elsewhere, so I am not surprised the board are playing their cards close to their chest.
The Colony will be a phased project starting with the first team facilities, planning application to be submitted in a few weeks when they will release details of the build. Contractors have been appointed and the board do not preserve any issues with the application. Hopefully this will be the first tangible signs of the evolution.
I must admit I was surprised at the aggressive tone of some of the attendees last night and i am not surprised Wael kept quiet until directly asked a question. I have no reason to question the Family and the way they are currently running the club, although some seem to think they are loading the club with dept and will then just walk away from it at some point. When asked if he had learned anything since taking over the club and would he do it again Wael said "I wont be doing it again we are here to stay" or something along those lines. I believe him to be an honest man and we need to trust that him and the family will deliver ultimately

What does the office in London do? Has Dwane Sports fingers in other pies? Has a very nice Bristol Rovers Logo woven into the carpet.... I was at the AGM. It was quoted that the London office which costs over £250k per year to run has two staff and its for the benefit of the family for meetings etc plus they said most premier clubs have a London office to which one shareholder reminded the top table we are not a premier league club !
The cost of under 23 players wages etc are not included in the fair play agreement for DC's playing budget.
The mem pitch problems attributed to former groundsman being away with prostrate problems and work on pitch started before new groundsman appointed. They apparently used two different types of sand which appears to be the reason for the poor quality. The dispute continues with the contractor to resolve.
Training ground plans being submitted within 8/9 weeks but when asked what it included Mike Turner refused to divulge as it needed to be confidential until planning submitted. It would be phased and the first team will benefit by its use first.
When the mounting debt was queried as a worry for shareholders Wael conceded it was covered by DS and would never be a problem. He confirmed he was after two years still committed to progressing the club.
DC when asked about current progress he did admit he wished he still had Taylor and Bodin in his current side and they would have got us into the play offs for sure. He did say many fans wanted Ellis gone three years ago but he has finally improved and was now under contract until end of next season. He wont offer anyone three year deals. But he said fans would soon get fed up with continued league one status and he would be a sitting duck.
I did ask why after coming so close to a new stadium at UWE we then walked away. The Chairman said deadlines were given to UWE and their trustees failed to meet them so it was best the club walked away. Then someone said So why did UWE say the following morning they could not understand Rovers pulling out which the board said was rather puzzling. It was asked if the UWE proposal could be looked at again but Wael said no it could not.
DC said he was not looking to loan premier players in future as they had not worked out and would instead use our own development players if they were good enough which he considered fans wanted.

If nothing else that's fantastic news that Ellis is under contract for next season as I like many others assumed it was just a one year deal he signed.

it's quite an interesting non-answer to the question. So what is it's purpose - I'm sure it's not to save on travel time?

So let me see if I understand this...
Bristol Rovers FC are paying the equivalent of a respectable transfer fee to retain an office in a city some distance away, for the exclusive use of a couple of brothers who are not domiciled in the Uk?
Seems legit.
To the statement of "oh well it's their money" it isn't quite just their money because they have secured their investment against our home. So that charge for the office is eating up liquidity in the mem.
Of course, if they categorically stated they will never sell the mem then they can have a penthouse suite in Mayfair as far as I am concerned, however the likelihood of them making that promise is non-existent. This news about the office does frame the question of "why is the debt rising so rapidly" in a new light, that is for sure.

Maybe they need to maintain a level of presentation for some of their business activities, that's fair enough, but I'm struggling to see justification for a quarter of a million quid a year of the FC's money being spent on an office 120 miles away, especially when they said last night that they won't be trying to impress top clubs with a view to getting players off of them on loan? In business, small leaks sink large ships, this sounds like the hull has broadsided straight into a whopping gurt iceberg.
