Oh god......I hesitate to contribute to this car crash. But what I can't understand is why BRSC members would be in anyway proud to back an organization that didn't claim that it wanted to represent all Rovers fans and belittled non-members as not being 'real' supporters. If I were a non-member I think it pretty unlikely that senior members consistently expressing this comically defensive and closed shop attitude to people explaining why the organisation holds little appeal would encourage me to join. The attitude seems to be 'we really don't like you and don't care what your opinion is---please come and join us or we might drift into irrelevance'.Its not a fantastic sales pitch.Instead, as a member, I just find it completely embarrassing at the failure of senior BRSC members to deal with criticism with any degree of grace or humility.I did not join the SC to be in some private old boys club for 'superior' supporters. When people volunteer for the SC I hope its because they want to help the club not because they are under the complete delusion this makes them a better quality of fan somehow.

No need to bring him into it please ....sounds like you are saying that this is exactly how the Natzi party started in Germany in the 1930s ?
Members can change things ...look at UKIP, the Labour Party, NUM, NUT, Unite all organisations who represent their members . They don't represent NON MEMBERS
Some join to help and volunteer some just join to get tickets easier or cheaper coach travel.

Mike, Have you told a female Rovers supporter to ‘go back to the ironing’ in the last 24 hours? Hypothetical question by the way as I’ve seen a screen shot from Facebook. The club must be so proud to have a sexist dinosaur as official club historian.

That is very much not how the Nazi Party started in Germany....no idea what you are on about there.
But this is exactly the problem. You are conceiving the SC as having the same organisational logic as a Trade Union or a private members club which makes absolutely no sense in the current context it exists in. A trade union may exclude non-members from the goods it offers because it needs collective solidarity and has to be seen as offering collective benefits for collective action-therefore if you are not in the collective the union has an interest in excluding you from the benefits. That's the only power it has.A private members club on the other hand must offer members a monopoly on goods or services that are not available to non-members or it is pointless.
The problem is that the SC fits neither of those models. The goods and services it offers can easily be obtained elsewhere or without being a member. There is no real penalty for not being in the club other than being moaned at on the internet by people that are.It is very unclear what the collective benefits of being in the SC are in the current scenario. So therefore the main sell the SC is offering here is the opportunity to join and change its constitution-and I assume that is in itself limited by a trustee type arrangement to stop, I don't know, people coming in and turning it into a Bristol City supporters club etc. This is an insanely insular and self defeating argument if the aim is to encourage people who can't see the value of an organization in the first place to join it.
To me, as a member, the SC should be conceiving itself as a kind of pressure group/booster club not as a members club with a strict aim of protecting its patch. With that in mind it should be promoting goodwill, openness and listening rather than the 'get off my land' defensiveness of a members organization confronted with criticism from non-members.If that logic remains dominant then it will wither because its relevance to younger generations of fans will be very unclear. We are not in the Twerton all in it together era and haven't been for ages-we're in an era where the super rich pass football clubs around like assets-where the current SC fits into that is hard to identify at the moment.

Sorry to Bamber, because apparently I snipe at people on here Mike (you and Padstow for being hypocrites), but you told a young woman on Facebook to go back to her ironing. You got rebuked by many.
Father Jack has nothing to apologise for and yes, he is a mate of mine and yes, he has immense integrity.

No, I take it back, you were right, I got wound up in a stupid thing with Padstow and Mike, either they are both stupid or they are deliberately misunderstanding. I should have realised what was up when Mike was denying things that he himself had posted just 2 days earlier. Sorry to everyone for 8 pages of circular tripe when just laughing at Mike and Padstow would have done the job.

One of the great joys of owning your own business is you work what hours you want.... currently i do 67 hours a week and do the paperwork at home on a Sunday... One day when i'm super rich i will cut the hours down and enjoy my old age That's freedom for you. Does that 67 include the 20 that you waste on pointless football forums and the other 20 that you spend trying to search out hidden agendas? That's the great thing about being your own boss, nobody can say "get off that football forum and do some work" Although is tinkering about with computers really work rather than just a paid hobby?

nobody can say "get off that football forum and do some work" Some of us need wives or husbands to say exactly this.

Well done, Ann. Shame really, he sounds very pleased with himself. Doesn't he just? I assumed that your incisive subtlety had flown past him ...which makes it all the funnier. Self-righteousness usually eats itself in the end. Thanks for providing the knife and fork.

I thought computers were throwaway things, use it for 2 years, it gets clunky, get another.

Anyway, back to the important issues of the day, has Harry come up with a decent excuse yet as to why he thinks women supporters should stick to ironing???
