I thought Ellis played superbly at Bury this year because he was able to cover the whole width of the pitch as a loan striker. That meant they were constantly having to adjust and were never comfortable. Gaffney can't do this because he doesn't have the legs. No point in being able to make it stick if you can't go anywhere with it and the opposition see it coming a mile off. Neither are particularly prolific or consistent in front of goal but that shouldn't really be there role - they are 2nd striker/role players and they generally both do that quite well. They are taking criticism because we lack an out and out goalscorer which, at the same time, would make them more of a goalscoring threat.

cover the whole width of the pitch as a loan striker. Haha! Very good pun! I like Ellis, but I'm sure some wouldn't mind him being a loan striker as well as a lone striker! I think we play not to Ellis strengths at times. Hoof the ball up to him isn't his game. We continue to do it, and when it doesn't work, we (as a collective) blame him out of frustration.

Yep - that's exactly what I did there. Entirely deliberate that was. Well spotted.........
