As always it is all about individual opinions but I am afraid that given the amount of time he has had at the club I am not sure why he keeps falling down on the basics: Close control on the ground Lack of intelligence in the air with some of his headers A sub standard football 'brain' Ok he scored what was really a free header on Saturday but much of his play particularly in the first half was very poor imo re: hold ups / lay offs / control and vision it was a free header because he lost his marker and jumped high to head in!!

He's winning more in the air than matt harrold ever did

He is the best "centre Forward" we have had since Lambert. Growing in ability all the time, always a threat, strong in the air, decent shot, a handful for any L1 defender - personally think we are lucky to have him. Could well go a long way, either with us or someone prepared to take a punt!

Same, I rate him. He is excellent in the air for his size, and actually wins more than his fair share against big centre halves. As for free header, he was up high and early the defender could do nothing, it was top quality striking. He can be a bit wasteful, but remember Jason Roberts, he was even more so, and even Taylor has been not so long ago. He would be one of my 4 strikers to chose from, without question.

Could well go a long way, either with us or someone prepared to take a punt! I'm personally not sure he's that yet. But he has clearly improved. Apparently Marcus Stewart works with him one to one almost every day, and if he can see enough in him to want to do that, that's good enough for me.

Gaffney had to start tonight. Harrison is an impact player at best Fine margins though isnt it? ellis had 2 chances in the 1st half and didnt take them. Hes in the right position but both times didnt finish. Ive seen rory do the same when hes started. In my view they are both decent league 1 strikers but not top league 1 strikers.

Sat Gaffney scored, missed and had two attempts at putting opposition through. Gets no scrutiny. Last night gave silly foul away, no scrutiny. Ellis is under microscope. Look at all players the same way. Billy Bob has not impressed at all last three games, not much heard about that.

Absolutely cracking ball from Billy last night to put Gaffney through for a clinical finish. But why did DC start Billy on the left when most of his goals come cutting in from the right and last night was the night to peppering the goalie with quality on target efforts (something Oldham did much better than us)? And 2 great finishes by gaffney recently but equally he shirks challenges there was a moment last night they were struggling to clear their lines we head the ball back to the edge of the penalty area and gaffney stands within a couple of yards of Gerrard and let's him have a free header to clear the danger. Fact is we have a number of strikers that just aren't consistently stand out, I'm guessing DC would love one of them to put their hand up and become undroppable. Can't see any if them doing that myself

Just saying Ellis gets criticism for anything on the park, others don't!

No, it says he hasn't started as many games as games he's come on as a sub in. Because he's too inconsistent to hold down a starting place.

Ellis doesnt hold the ball up as well as Gaffers for the simple reason that his first touch is terrible. A skill that can surely be taught.

For what it's worth, I feel Ellis is a product of how he has been handled by DC. He needs a run to improve form or establish some kind of partnership, but he does not get long enough starts to build either. Overthinking about the opposition has not really worked for DC (and Ellis) and so, if a sub, Ellis has often come on to score and so gets the tag of 'impact player.' He certainly defends well, particularly heading.

I think there are signs that Ellis has improved.Hehas to improve more and find a reasonable rate of good performances.
