Their first goal:
- Number 27 runs straight into Browner. He has no intention of going for the ball, he's looking in completely the wrong direction. It seems to me like he is just out to stop Browner competing for the header. Whether Lee would have got to the ball anyway is difficult to tell, but there was contact as the bloke stumbles away.
- Having said that Browner doesn't complain. Perhaps it was so sneaky he didn't know what hit him.
- That 27 is John Marquis. I can only go by commentary, but every time his name was mentioned it seemed to be with spoiling tactics. Went down off the ball, sounded like he was mixing it with Locks and trying to get him booked.
- Was it him that got booked for diving?
Their second goal:
- Leds was caught on the back foot. Very unlike him, he is usually quick off the mark and anticipates well.
- He made up for it with the smart turn, pace and cross for Vardy Taylor to get our first.

There was some debate at half time that maybe Mildenhall should have come out to clear the cross. Our second conceded was primarily caused by the left side of the defence disappearing which eventually saw the very ineffective Lawrence be taken off to be replaced by a very effective Montano. I hope against hope we only see Lawrence on the pitch with the subs warming up in future, I know that sounds cruel but he has been instrumental in the majority of our failures and noticeably absent in most of our sucesses, he is just TOO slow. Brilliant moves to create our goals and fantastic finishing by both Taylor and Harrison, another ten minutes and we could have won it. I have to say the double substitution made an immediate impact as with 25/30 minutes to go there was only one team going to get anything out of the game and it sure wasn't us. Darrell usually makes brave decisions to get results, he needs to drop the ineffectual Lawrence and sadly Gaffney needs a spell on the bench, he hardly won a ball all game and it just isn't working for him at the moment so maybe he needs to take a back seat and come from off the bench. |

Watch the video; Marquis comes from the left, turns away from the ball, follows the same path as the ball, with the sole intention of taking Browner out - leaving Adams unchallenged to nod home. Yeh but for blokes like me who watch a lot of rugby it was just a nudge  Lee was certainly prevented from challenging for the ball however you look at it but it all happened so quickly it wasn't spotted by either official. For the first goal - agreed. My lad and myself (both goalkeepers of somewhat variable standard) both said at the time why didn't he at least come for the cross and catch/punch. He seemed rooted to the spot as if expecting the defenders to clear it. But these things happen and was happy with the result and matchday experience.

I thought that Rovers started the game well,good play for 15 minutes but didn't make goal scoring chances.
Then Northampton scored,I agree with those who said Lawrence was poor,Gaffney looks off form and his touch was poor,Bodin faded away as the game went on.
When Rovers brought Harrison and Montano on I thought that Rovers looked worse at first,although Harrison won balls in the air he couldn't direct them...but then Easter came on and the game changed.
Credit to DC he got his substitutions right AGAIN and Northampton got theirs wrong,Hoskins and Adams ( and Holmes ) were their best players imo.
Credit to Mcrystal as well he made some good tacles yesterday.
O tool played to far back to much of the time (thankfully) and when he came up for corners Lockyer had him sorted out.
Northampton were a niggly team,diving a lot and I didn't enjoy yesterday until the the last part of the game.

The subs did turn the match, and I thought at the time of their third one Wilder was trying to protect the 2-1, it didn't work hee hee.

Two bloody terrible mistakes for their goals. I know it's only a short clip but we looked like we gave the so much space. If you look around the pitch then you'll see our MF are not even up with the play. Thank god we came away with a point as it seems that Northampton could have had more. The free kick, that was bloody lucky. Still, onwards and hopefully upwards |

When you start getting interested in all things Rovers, there is tangible proof that this can lead to a condition now known as gashead personality disorder and you may find yourself travelling to the West Country, on a Saturday and singing a strange blue song about being inappropriately in love with a young woman Called Irene. My Mrs, when we first met, she asked me what my interests and passions were and when I said one was the gas? Her terse reply was "Bristol Rovers, really ?" now, she may not go very often but she is hooked and cannot keep away from various social media and is a member of helpline. I thought it best to warn you and this great little club has a great fanbase and we have a great many, who travel a silly amount of miles just to be a part of that. This disorder has no known cure as yet but we have the best cider manufacturers in the world, working on that and spending a great number of man hours in this aim  |

Not condoning anything throwing things on pitch (except verbal insults!) but I think the goal cam shows that's conclusive proof NOTHING hit the goalkeeper and he feigned injury like a big girls' blouse!

I appreciate you were behind the goal, (as was the goal cam) and so you couldn't see what happened, but your no. 9 punched Smith full in the face...(mouth/nose) to try to get him to drop the ball (it worked!) It was like a rabbit punch, short and sharp. Something was bleeding afterwards too.
If the ref or linesman had seen it, it would have been a straight red, and I suspect he probably would have been had up for bringing the game into disrepute or something like that too, as it was worse than merely a two footed tackle. Have never seen anything like that in 30 years of watching the Cobblers! (ie. a player totally losing it and assaulting another player just to try to get the ball back!!)
Felt I had to correct you as he DEFINITELY wasn't simulating!!! (ask any one of the other 6,500 people who were the side of the incident where we could actually see!!) |
