Just to clarify I don't think anyone on the moderation team is particularly bothered about this - it just came up on another thread and we wanted to gage opinion (which is why we are doing it now). Now we have done this I think it seems pretty clear that the consensus is to stay as we are. I think the case for both sides has been effectively made in the discussion. Lots of good reasons for staying as the Independent forum (we do, after all, remain independent of the club) - Stig of the Gas effectively highlighted reasons why we might potentially want to change the name. I don't think it makes very much difference but some people appeared to have quite strong opinions so it seemed fair to ask what the general view was. There are no other plans to change anything - this was only about the name. What about the Pirate? He's clearly overdue for a makeover, but I like the rest of the decision though.

I came to this forum purely and simply because it encouraged those who think more independently and because it has some seriously great minds who use it. I am sorry if this seems to be a dig as gaschat but while I enjoyed that place, for the short period I used it, it was never going to be a place where you could have a decent debate, not without the usual suspects turning it into a banter fest and then that turning into personal insult. This place is not without humour and occasionally has some insults but the mods are very quick to stop it and we do pretty well. I still consider myself a newbie on here but my view is that I like it just as it is and that nothing really needs changing. I guess it's no different to maintaining a property? Sometimes a lick of paint and some aesthetic change but no need for any real overhaul

Bridgey, please stop sending me those images. The members do not want that sort of pirate I'd rather have a fella, with a big... erm... cutlass, but blue and white is kind of a minimum requirement. If you must go with the woman in the red get-up, I'd suggest accessorising with a Sainsbury's carrier bag to really maximise her popularity!

To reflect the new age of competence and commerciality of the club, couldn't you sell the naming rights to the forum?
or in the nod to the past 'dark age', the 'The Barry Bradsahw Fashion and Merchandising Appreciation Society'.

I agreed with this.
This forum may not be as busy and there is obviously less to read because of it, but I think this helps each thread not to become a bitch-fest as happens all too frequently on the other one.
To summarise, this forum separates the wheat from the chaff....

It was just a suggestion, looks like most members want it to stay as it is, will leave this up for a few days an go with the majority verdict. It is, and 'we are', both. Headline and subtitle. Keep both? Gasheads.org - Bristol Rovers Independent Fans Forum THE or A as prefixes don't read well and convey (unintended) meaning by implication Keep up the good work either way; I enjoy the facility, and thank you. But you've got to put the quarters the right way round! This please. Being a professional designer I'm happy to create a new banner and social media graphics to reflect it. Give me a shout if wanted.

I really like this forum, since joining it has given me information, opinions and much more. TBH I don't really care what you call it but I have always worked on the assumption that you change something if it needs to be changed. You don't need to change if it doesn't need changing. I like the idea that the admin has reacted to posts suggesting that perhaps it needs to change, that shows an openness and a group of admin fully in tune with views being expressed. That they then open it out to a wider conversation is great. Now we can all put our views. As I understand it this forum, our forum (?) is independent from BRFC. I understand but probably don't know the full story of its beginnings and the relationship between the forum and the club at the time. But whatever that was we are still "independent " from the club and that allows us to question, be critical where needed and offer a fans perspective. We all know this is a new start with potentially a very good future. But, and this is my opinion only, we still need to be independent from the club and our current name makes that clear. I disagree where people say if we don't change then we are stuck in the past. Why? We are still independent and will remain so wouldn't we? Anyway it's all about opinions and for what it's worth I am happy to remain with the current name but if we don't change then I will be happy with that as well. I guess it is about the quality of the posts. Perhaps the appearance etc could be updated without changing the name. Sorry, doesn't help you does it!!? Whatever, UTG!

I think it should be changed. If you want to run the forum for the benefit of those of us that used the old forum then leave it as it is. If we want this forum to grow, get new members and develop as the Club develops then you need to be clear to new members why they should join. In terms of marketing the forum to new members it's misleading. To me it's a simple choice - If you are happy to live in the past leave it as it is. If you want to embrace the future, it needs to change. I don't understand why it is misleading to be "Independent". By the way, I am probably quite happy to live in the past, it's sometimes a lot better than the present (not of course when it comes to Rovers which is what we are talking about)!! Why does using independent make it hard to market? And i don't get the linkage between the living in the past and embracing the future. The word independent doesn't do that surely? Serious question though I just don't understand why it's misleading.

This place doesn't go I to over 250 pages on a thread about the consortium stuff. The quality of post here is, more often than not, better thought out and not anywhere near as dramatic. This is a much different place and I like it because of that. In all honesty, I don't think a name change would make that much difference, I do understand that sometimes things just need a fresher appearance but I can come on here and get some decent and better thought out comment and I also enjoy being able to talk to others who share the same reference points as me. I used to often get het up on the old official forum and then gaschat but this place has actually been a place of learning, for me in anycase. Long may it continue
