The new owner also said they had been in talks with the UWE for 5 months ! okay, i thought they had only been in talks with Rovers for 5 months. but i guess due diligence would make uwe-dialogue vital. I guess it's just good news in the fact that they plan to complete the project. He also stated that there were two parcels of land next to the stadium (UWE) that they would like to purchase for other commercial uses.

The Al Qadi's have been negotiating with UWE and consulting South Gloucestershire council for months?! Well blow me down. That answers some questions on the Stadium Effects thread I started.
Thanks for merging this with Stadium Effects. I have an open mind about the stadium; I'm split between 'UWE is the only future' and reservations about moving further away from the thick of it. I really don't believe it would be in the Al Qadis' financial interests to leave us in the Memorial Ground (as is) any longer though. It'll be a lot mote fun finding out than it was following the former owner chairman's desperate bust-or-duck litigation.

Or have UWE already sold/signed up to a hotel chain to develop this land? What is proposed on the other "commercial development opportunity" parcel of land? [Refer 8.9 western district details... of the UWE Frenchay Campus Masterplan www2.uwe.ac.uk/services/Marketing/about-us/pdf/UWE-New-Campus/Planning-Design-and-Access-Statement.pdf ]

Could we even do a Fleetwood and use the offices for the club's own business usage in order to then get around the FFP if required?

If UWE were to sell the land I think a caveat would be use of the carpark.

Owners sponsoring their own stadia is a way of bypassing financial fair play. I believe that's what Man City do. Not comparing us to them, but why not keep options open. Man City have already been punished for failing to meet the financial fair play rules. Transactions, such as sponsorship deals with the owners, are considered on market value not what the owners happen to pay.

Presumably the thinking is to prevent clubs going under rather than anything else.

The UWE land might be free, but part of the original deal is to call it UWE stadium etc etc. I am sure 'we' would rather renogotiate and offer UWE something as I am sure 'we' would prefer it to be the Al-Qadi Investment Bank Stadium or something One possible renegotiation move might be to agree to make provision for UWE student accommodation at the MEM if we can gain the freehold of UWE stadium site + naming rights etc.
