People will say I am being harsh but what can i say about losing to a team so much lower than us in the pyramid and who in all honesty did not even have to play well to win. We were desperately bad in the first half which is not unusual at the Mem and although we improved in the second half we still didn't look anything other than non league.
Where do I start other with the Manager- when will he learn that you score goals by going forward and getting players in the opponents half whatever the level of the opposition? Sitting your central midfielders just in front of an already deep lying back unit is bad enough against the better League 2 sides but to do it against opponents so far below in the pyramid is beyond a joke. It is OK respecting the opposition but DC really has basically a defensive approach to every home game and without doubt treats opponents with far too much respect. In truth can he not see that the distribution from the back is poor and therefore to play a game in which the midfield constantly pass the ball back to them is just incomprehensible.
Chesham were there for the taking because there was nothing special about them. They had no real dangermen and just looked Ok in the rest of the positions so where does that put us when at the end of the day as we lost to them? Not very good and that is an understatement, if you are going to play deep then the only way to get on top is to go forward with pace and get behind your opponents and then get players in the box especially where you don't have a big physical presence up front. I feel a bit sorry for our forwards because although they miss chances on a fairly regular basis they are often totally outnumbered with no support other than their own. Lee brown provided the main threat but even he failed on numerous occasions to get a cross beyond the first defender and as for Mansell and Sinclair do they know what a forward pass is? Most home games this season have been the same where we allow the opposition to have far too much of the ball particularly in the first half and constantly when we get the ball it goes backwards and across and at such a slow pace that the away team have time to set up and be organised whatever their actual ability.
In truth if it wasn't for the away results I think today we would be saying goodbye to DC because it was probably as low as we have sank today as a team but the real worry is that he does not seem to have any ideal how to rectify our home form as he plays the same game and then makes substitutions that don't really change anything.I know people will come on here and say we can't push up to the half way line because we have no pace at the back but today that was total nonsense as our opponents had no pace whatsoever either. if Dc is going to be here after Christmas (which I do hope he is)he is going to have to change his approach soon because once the fans faith in him goes with continued poor home form then he is halfway out of the door. A bad worker blames his tools and at the moment that is what DC is doing to cover up his own inefficiences.
I am not going to spend much time on individuals performances today and my marks take into account the poorness of the opposition because in all honesty very few players come out of the game with much credit.
Nicholls 4
OK he saved the penalty but again at fault for the goal which cost us the game.
Leadbitter 5
Runs and runs but little quality in the final ball
Lockyer 5
Not at his best.
McChrystal 4
Slow and below par,was very wasteful with the ball
Brown 5
MOM a mixed performance with a few good crosses and at least did get into forward positions
Bodin 3
A match to be forgotten
Mansell 4
Too much sideways and back and caught in possession on a few occasions
Sinclair 5
Same as Mansell ,lacked any quality in his play today
Gosling 3
Went missing for long periods, better in first half but dire in the second.
Taylor 3
took too long getting a shot away but can't understand substituting him like for like
Harrison 5
looked a little dangerous but missed some good chances but had little in the way of support
Subs: Lines 3
Why does he bother if he just can't be bothered? Where is the player gone who used to run at defenders from the half way line and had a tremendous shot? he seems to just want to pick the ball up from deep but is this down to playing the way he is asked? I would say yes.
Easter 5 Added a bit of polish but would rather have seen him being played in the hole behind the front two and sacrificed the ineffective Goslinhg
J. Clarke 5 Did Ok but personally would have replaced Leadbitter with Lucas and sacrificed a defender and just ythrown the kitchen sink at Chesham
O Clarke Not long enough but did little
Crowd 5
deserve more for even staying to the end.
Ref 3 Suited to the teams today. very poor and wouldn't have looked out of place refereeing on the Downs.
Chesham 6 Well they weren't good and didnt need to be because their enthusiasm alone was enough to win the battle.
DC please have a good look at yourself and what the team do in training because if I can see the faults then so is every Manager who comes to the Mem going to see them and we are far too easy to contain.
