When did this become an Arsenal forum? (COYS) Like some other threads on this forum it's digressed, talking of which I used to holiday at Severn Beach in the early 1960's (when Spurs were VERY good). There used to be an outdoor swimming pool on the front and if I remember correctly there used to be a boating lake around which a minature railway would traverse.....memories eh ?!

Yeah mate, people tell me about when it was a resort all the time. I just cannot picture it in my mind no matter how hard I try. Be like an in real life Dismaland. There's not even a f**king pub there anymore.

The other not so nice memory was waking up in the chalet we were staying in covered in bites from bed bugs ! You could walk quite a way along the sea shore towards where the Severn Bridge is and remember seeing it during its construction stage. God I must be getting old, remembering all that stuff.....

You can still do that walk, and the landscape in between the bridges won't have changed much!

More of a kick in the knackers to only get a token sum for the efforts of our academy really. Awesome for Matt though. Something to sell to any talented local youngsters, when deciding who to join.

As a child we always travelled to Severn Beach by train, from Montpelier station.

One of the features of supporting BRFC has always been being able to watch some of our younger players, and others that we have brought in too, leave us and move on to the next level. Apart from a fairly brief period when we employed a ''No Buy, No Sell'' policy, we have always been a selling club. This is primarily because we have never owned our own ground, and have never generated sufficient revenue through the turnstiles not to be. I think that from a personal perspective, the Welsh nursery unearthed quite a number of excellent players for us, some stayed and others moved on. But before that era if you look at the first team and the reserves, there was a majority of home-grown talent. Sadly we don't seem to produce the number of players that we used to, due in part to other clubs scouting in our traditional areas. And yet another legacy of NH is screwing up the scouting and believing he could buy in the players needed.

Bristol Rovers academy for talented local youngsters: the best opportunity in Bristol to not play for Bristol Rovers.

Severn Beach has brought back memories. Like you I was taken to Severn Beach and spent days there trying to find something to do. I was taken by my gran she was convinced it was one of the best places to go for a day out! Bless her. Mind you it was her and my grandad who took me to Eastville. Thanks for reminder, this thread isn't meant to be doing that though. From Matt Macey to Severn Beach...blimey. UTG!

If it was I suppose I could just about be in it! Brings back memories, I just about remember that! I suppose we'd have needed that, just imagine swimming in Bristol Channel! Thanks for loading that up.

I don't ever recall going in the swimming pool I just recall it being there from our summer visits
