I reckon will be changed from a red to a yellow card ..seems fair to me But would that not mean two yellows, one for the dive and one for ..... so that will result in a red

Eastleigh away and Wemberlee. wasn't at Eastleigh, but it was free kick and booking at Wembley, wasn't it? Both were hand ball, I was at both. Some may disagree. If you talk to Grim & Eastleigh fans (I have, btw!) they feel both should be sending offs. I think we would too if reversed.

They can downgrade a red to a yellow if they decide that the "headbutt" is adopting an aggressive attitude or USB rather than violent conduct, but they can't then go back and look at a separate event, even if the gap is only a few seconds.
The ref didn't show a yellow for the dive, the FA cannot (yet) impose retrospective punishment for dives as I understand it.

Handball isn't an automatic red.

What is probably more accurate to say is, if he was punished both times by a red card, we really could not have complained. Maybe that's a fairer evaluation. Sorry to op as we've digressed.

The problem is though that the dive was so outrageous it might generate little sympathy from the committee for what happened afterwards. It shouldn't be the way it works but it could be. That's not how it works though. In theory no, but in practice a committee is going to watch a player take an outrageous dive and then be involved in some handbags. Given that what is involved in the handbags is probably open to interpretation (ie. he does seem to swish his hand towards a player) I'm thinking that they may not be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. He wasn't sent off for headbutting someone - he was sent off for violent conduct and I think there is leeway to interpret his actions that way irrespective of how harsh that would be. It is a bit of shame that he didn't officially get the booking for diving actually because that would probably be a way out. They could give him 1 yellow for that, 1 yellow for the melee and then we avoid the longer ban which he clearly doesn't deserve. As it stands, it's kind of all or nothing. Either he escapes with no punishment at all or he gets a 3 game ban and neither of those seem right to be honest.

We had two men inc Mildy sent off at Eastleigh anyway so hardy lucky? But delibrate hnd ball is hardly cheating any more than a prof foul or shirt pulling etc? How is DELIBERATE handball not cheating? I mean if i was in Luis Suarez position at the world cup in the last minute, I would do the exact same thing. But it would be cheating,.understandable but cheating

DC on the radio says the ref's report stated red card for a head butt. The appeal is on the basis that there was no head butt.
If the panel are going to look at the whole incident, then they should look at the provocation by the two Mansfield players. They should also look at Green's behaviour towards Tom Lockyer in the free for all that followed Pearce's red card. All apparently not seen by the ref so therefore should be open to retrospective judgement I think.

It would be interesting to see if that was how the ref wrote up the incident. If we are to believe the OS then the charge was that Easter Headbutted McGuire - but it seems extremely unlikely that this was the case from studying the video.
The ref had his yellow card in hand before McGuire decided to grab Easter. It seemed to me as though Easter reacted, but not with his head. May be different if it was judged that he struck McGuire with his hand in shrugging him off.
Why McGuire was not booked still amazes me - but the ref was absolutely clueless.
(agree with Angas about Green)

Having had it explained to me by a friend, I think there is a clear and exaggerated backwards movement of Easter's head which can only really be interpreted as an attempt to butt the guy needlessly picking him up. A tough one for the panel but definitely enough evidence to reject the appeal if they're minded to.

A tough one for the panel but definitely enough evidence to reject the appeal if they're minded to. Or he moved his head back to avoid being head butted. Having watched the incident frame by frame in ultra slow motion, in my opinion the guy grabbed Easter by the collar with his left hand, his right hand was clenched in a fist, as Easter got up the right arm was bent into an "about to punch" shape, unfortunately the punch, if it was indeed a punch was between the 2 players and thus hidden from the camera. The body language seems to point that Easter was about to be punched or at least thought he was going to be punched so he back tracked away from the aggressor. The defence rests

That's a very creative explanation, but I hope he doesn't use it as his defence.

I think that the result of the appeal will be announced this afternoon. So what are the odds of him being mentally prepared, in the event of being cleared I wonder?
Perhaps a start from the bench . . . all being well.
